Gonna be some interesting stuff in this book.

Today, Civoniceva says he harbours no ill-will towards Cullen or Bennett. But at the time, alarm bells rang when he organised a meeting on January 23, 2007 with Cullen.

"I arrived at Bruno's office at the appointed time but he was unable to see me. I was a bit taken aback but relaxed about it. I'd simply make another appointment," he writes. "Then, over the next weeks and months, further meetings I'd organised with Bruno were postponed. I began to get the impression that management was avoiding me . .

"My fears were justified. I was informed by Bruno that the salary cap was making it hard for the club to pay me any more than I was currently earning.

That passage above makes my blood boil! It's one thing to decide that keeping Petero would be hard, but for Bruno to allegedly avoid contact with Petero is just disgraceful and cowardly.

I'm so glad Cullen is gone.

That whole deal with Petero just smelled bad from the get-go :grrr:

We won't have to buy his book, as all the juicy stuff will be known.

BRONCOS prop Petero Civoniceva has lifted the lid on one of State of Origin's most explosive feuds, the day he was privately shamed and "humiliated" by Manly and Maroons legend Paul Vautin.

In his soon-to-be released book Petero: My Story, Civoniceva details his devastation and resentment after he and fellow prop Steve Price were lashed by a "derogatory" Vautin at the jersey presentation the night before Game Two of the 2006 Origin series.

I am not a Vautin fan, but I think he said it to fire them up.

Wonder if Petero told Vautin how it upset him. (Bet not)

Bit disappointed in Petero tbh........quite obviously it was a Mal conspired ploy to have Vautin fire up the boys (Locky included) and it sure as hell worked. Game 2 QLD 30-6. Now I'm not a huge Fatty fan, but Petero should be thanking Vautin

and as for Bruno Cullen, none of that surprises me at all. Always thought he was an arrogant wanker and the day he left Brisbane was a great day for the club.

I think if you were to put someone down like that to fire them up, the least you would do is speak to them afterwards to square it all away.

Exactly.

Vautin just comes across as a total dickhead to me .... never liked the clown.

We don't know if he did or didn't.

We are only hearing one side of the story & that person is still cut up about it.

Wonder if Price will talk about it.

Price is quoted in the book

Price, who is quoted in the book, recalls Vautin's attack as a dark but pivotal moment in his and Civoniceva's glittering careers.

"A defining period in Petero's and my careers came in the days before Game Two in 2006," he said.

"Mal Meninga and Vautin told all three of us (Darren Lockyer included) that if we were defeated in Origin II our Origin careers were over.

"The pressure from outside and within was enormous. To say we took that criticism to heart is an understatement.

"Pet and I were roomies. We were both grimly focused on victory, and told each other we would do anything to achieve it.

"I looked across the hotel room at Petero and knew he meant it. We went out there in that match and dominated. We won Origin III too, and today as I write this, the Blues haven't beaten us in a series since."

Seem to have worked........Meninga is a genius.

Who knows what the deal is or whether the whole passage was taken out of context? Maybe Civo is just trying to portray how he felt before the game and how it all lead to Queensland dominance. Either way, bit of a nothing story. Ex-player gives current player a spray, ****, if they were making a book like that, Carlaw would have a thousand anecdotes!

Cullen story is more interesting if only because we're getting more details. It's just one side of the story but it's becoming clear that the club ****** up. Fancy getting rid of the game's best prop for Joel Clinton & Ashton Sims...

I do get the feeling Cullen was acting under orders. Get the feeling Bennett specifically wanted those players.

Lol.....huge stuff up on Wayne's behalf then.

I have a mate who never forgave Bennett for what he did to Wally. He also subscribes to the theory that Bennett actively undermines the club he is currently with when he decides that he will be leaving said club. Looking at St Merge and the way that has panned out

....I dunno. Maybe

Well, he basically did the Bulldogs recruitment in 08.

Could be some truth there.

The difference was this was, IIRC, at the team/corporate lunch before Origin 2. so in front of the rest of the players, the sponsors, dignitaries etc....and Vautin's up there writing off a couple of the players and saying if they lose this game their careers are over.

That's poor form.

Mal had said, if we lost in 2006 they were gone & that included Lockyer.

Don't know where he told them.

I'll still buy it, Civo deserves a bit extra from the game, doesn't he?

Obviously it wasn't a PC move from Vautin but it got the desired result.

Bit of a non-event and the publishers have obviously taken parts of what was written to generate some publicity.

Bet Civo + Fatty have patched things up now it's gone public.
