see Nashy, therein lies the problem. It doesn't matter how you or I see the game. The point is ANY professional commentator is meant to give an objective and not totally biased representation of the game. That is 101 journalism. Again, I have never seen any more bias in any game and I think I have seen about 10,000 games in my life. Despite that he knows the game well, he needs to be given a time out and remember that not every viewer sits on one side of the fence.

Journalistic integrity doesn't exist anymore, unfortunately All you have to do is turn on the TV to any news station, national or international, and you will see an agenda or slanted personal opinion on a matter being pushed (highlighted in American media). The print media is the worst, especially in Australia, and there's a reason that I don't go to FTA for news in general. Having said that, last night the commentary team wasn't even trying to veil their bias. It was pathetic.

I agree the commentary was very Blue biased but hey it's not like the Queensland commentators have been known to show their colours before. Remember Fatty creaming his pants whenever Queensland used to score or do something great.

As it's been said though Fatty/Belcher/Ikin/Wally were the sole Queensland commentators in a telecast otherwise dominated by Rabs, Sterlo and in recent times Gould.

Rabs and Sterlo really controlled the call of the game - Fatty could only chime in when necessary and it was usually just a generic comment.

Nein must be due for a major overhaul of their commentary team though.

They're getting stale IMO and new blood is needed.

Best thing that could happen to the game would be if Fox and 9 shared the rights come the next TV deal (sort of like with the AFL, and how they have a specialised channel), that way we could get more of Vossy/ HD/ professional coverage of the game (if they move him over from NZ, which they should do).

Which was balanced off with Sterling doing the same.

I have no issue with equal bias in the room (Sterling V Fatty) but it has been rather one sided for a while now. The Queenslanders in the box are way too quiet.

I seriously don't care if commentators are biased, that being said Vossy is the best and CH 9 really need all their NRL games to be broadcast in HD.

Let's not kid ourselves. Nine needed a blues win as hard as the NSW'kers, if not harder!

The maroons dynasty was bad for business down south, so the odds were stacked against Mal and his men.

People may think this is stuff from the tinfoil hat realm, but knowing how the corporate world works, and what they will do to protect their bottom line, nothing would surprise me, and I mean nothing!

Last night, the refs made sure the field was on a downwards slope towards the Qld line. The continuous ignoring of the obvious by the video refs, paired with selective replays and commenting from the box, just ensured the job got finished.

Mal sure knew what he was talking about, when he published his article about the rats down there...

As mentioned before, I come from the States and grew up watching American sport. I truly do not believe that people realize how special this sport is outside of those who watch it. The potential is very global. It has skill, drama, heart and a gladiator element which in my opinion is a world better than the UFC which has become next to soccer as I call it, the most watched and biggest growing sport in the world. It certainly hooked me quick so much so that I send links to mates overseas showing how it is a different beast all together and people are amazed when they watch it.

All that said, it is time for the NRL to get serious with it's presentation which very much includes the way it is called and bring it up a notch or three. I can deal with Ray Warren but he is also 70 now. For it to go from a sport that attracts a few million knuckleheads like ourselves to really global, it's time to shelve the Gus Guilds of the sport as the mainstay color commentator. Have him elsewhere doing other things as he does have personality and knows the game, just not in the seat he sits.

I cannot agree more @animaleater. The Sydneycentric nature of the NRL in general and it's governing body holds this potentially great game back. The amateurishness and tribalism is fine for lower leagues and origin in the crowd but not for the global representatives on the commentary teams. The way our game has been left for dead by the afl ticks me off no end. I like afl (there I said it) live but it is a far inferior product to league in terms of visual tv spectacle, why are we so far behind? Because in so many ways we are still just so close minded and amateurish.

Only 3 more years of Channel 9 TV rights deal.

Foxsports is biting at their heals, with Andrew Voss.

And they certainly don't have the "brand" (especially without Rabs) that the cricket coverage does.

Strangely, I heard somewhere that Ray Warren's son is also a wanna-be caller?

Can I hear Super League anyone? Idea that was 25 years ahead of its time killed by the old boys because it was Murdoch dollars funding it.

Pity it was an all or nothing prospect and put us 15 years behind AFL.
