Players that never reached their potential

I might've missed him being mentioned, but you guys have forgotten the single biggest disappointment Brisbane have ever produced.

Denan Kemp. You couldn't have asked for a more incredible first year then, when he pissed off to New Zealand, he was never the same player. Very arrogant, cocky and inward looking person.

I think there were articles about how he was close to being selected for Australia in 2010, lol.

It's kinda scary looking back to that year, and knowing he was literally our best front rower.

Yeah but he was a monster that year. To say that he was our best front-rower, in a negative way, is cheapening what he did that year. IMO, Kenny isn't one that never reached his potential, IMO he was a dependable toiler who just happened to play above himself for that year (2009 IIRC). Comparing him to, say, Matt Scott, is a joke now, but Kenny was in front at the time & wouldn't have done a bad job if he had played for Australia.

You have just described Karmichael Hunt & Darius Boyd.

You've never seen Boyd interviewed ....have you?

I heard this was because one of the guys interviewing him had apparently interviewed him about the whole K.Hunt, Thaiday and Boyd situation and had said or done something to make Boyd not want to give anything good to the media anymore

It had nothing to do with that. Boyd is just a complete arsehole.

Well Bennett told him not to say much apparently. He certainly didn't say much!

I heard that, too.

A simple "fellas, I don't want to talk about that. I've put it behind me, can we leave it at that?" would have sufficed...and just got on with doing the interview in a proper manner.

Owen Cragie deserves a mention.

Supreme talent rated by Johns, Bederus etc as the most talently gifted junior they played with. Career was hampered with weight issues and gambling that prevented him from reaching what he could've been.
I find ones like this a bit funny, since you would've been what, 6-7 years old when he finished his career in australia? You can't really comment on players not living up to their potential when you never really saw them play.

Ali Lauititi is the big one for mine, though what little he did play was just awesome to watch. Could've gone on to be so much better.

Feleti Mateo is another. Dunno if it's laziness or fitness or what, but when he's trying he's the best second rower in the game.

Terry Campese, had he not been injured for 3/4 of his career, could've been brilliant.

Brett Seymour, obviously.

Motu Tony. Dunno what happened with him at the Broncos but he played awesome in his 3 games with us, then never got another game and promptly left. Was a real talent.

Ben Hannant. We've seen he can play very very well. We've just seen it very, very, very few times.

Sam Thaiday. Same as above.

Motu Tony left as he quickly decided Brisbane wasnt for him and he got a deal in England. Didnt play whilst it was all being finalised and then took off. Really wish he stayed I think he had a big career in front of him had he stayed on.

A QLD and Australian representative......captained his club side

and he underachieved?

What were you expecting of him........being named the 9th immortal?

I expect him to actually play like he deserved those accolades for more than 2-3 games a year. I cant remember the last time he actually earned one of those rep jumpers.

I remember getting super excited as a young kid because of a rumour about Lauititi coming to the Broncos in the Sunday Mail or something.

Well I have watched plenty of games with him and can remember him well enough and know enough about him to form an opinion. You are right I was only in primary school when he left the NRL but I can remember glimpses of him and remember hearing his name a bit.

When have I ever questioned yur credibility?

On a slightly different tack, what about commentators who never reached their potential / hype ... Namely Matthew Johns ... whenever he opens his mouth I think 'is this the time he's finally going to live up his hype as a RL commentator' ... within 5 to 10 seconds I'm always left thinking 'Nup'....

#whydoeseveryonecaresomuchwhatmatthewjohnshastosay??

His brother ain't much of a commentator either, but we know where all the football talent went.

I remember the hype around before Motu Tony arrived and was looking forward to seeing his talent come through for Brisbane....I was disappointed and what little he did wasn't particularly spectacular.
