Maybe I'm just in a good mood tonight....lol [icon_lol1.
But after reading the broncos v bulldogs thread I've been thinking of a few things.
Does being a passionate supporter mean that as soon as your team loses it ruins your weekend? Does it mean you have to pick apart the game and focus on all the negatives? eusa_think Maybe I've gone soft, but there is a lot of crap out there, and I don't want footy to be one of them...yes, even if we lose!

Don't get me wrong, I am a passionate broncos supporter and have been for the last 17 years but........I enjoy watching the broncos play footy, win lose or draw. Now I will admit that last week against the storm was a tad hard to watch lol but I really enjoyed the match tonight. Yeah we lost, and there are some improvements to be made, but there were patches of great attacking and some great tries. Some one mentioned that we don't have the side of 2006 and a lot of our players are inexperienced, and it's showing in our form. Is that totally a bad thing? I like watching the young players develop and improve over time. I like watching them scoring or making a big hit, even in a game we lose. And we are never going to win the premiership every year.

I totally understand people wanting to analyze a game, where we went wrong etc, but when someone comes in with something positive they are often shut down. I guess we need to vent our frustration when we lose, but do people still enjoy watching the broncos play, or only when we win? As I'm typing this I guess it's a silly question [icon_lol1. ...but
is it just me? What do you guys think?
Could be an interesting discussion!

I don't mind a loss, but when it's a rotten loss like last week then it can affect my weekend.

+1 Fozz.

And tonight, I have no major problems with the Broncos effort and agree there was some good play....right side defence is woeful - Lockyer...ugh.

But tonight still ruins my weekend. Not just because we lost, but the fact the NRL and QLD Health basically ensured that would happen.

To be honest I'm so sick of this time of year. I'm sick of the way the NRL continues to schedule Origin midseason. No other elite competition has shit like that happen when it greatly effects the competition itself.

Contemplating not bothering with a season ticket until they come to their senses and put Origin at the end of the year or at least on standalone weekends. Just buy tickets to the games early in the season and late in the season when the Origin shit is done and dusted. Or just watch on TV.

Events like the last week really do dent my passion for the game, let alone the Broncos.

I think people are really not giving Roberts credit.
He was sensational tonight and for mot of this season has been stepping pass players like he has today.
I think lockyer might of stuffed up a few times but Folau and Yow Yeh weren't helping the situation it was a try almost every time it went that side.

I think Hodges being in the team has a huge effect and isn't nearly as bad defensively as Folau but I think his presence gives the team confidence I wish he wasn't injured so much!

Anyway I was actually happy with the performance, sure defence was bad but more or less fix that right side defence and the rest wasn't all to bad. I think defence needs to be worked on big time and hopefully Hodges is back within 1-2 weeks. (doubt it)

I actually enjoyed the game, the bulldogs were just too good.

Negatives; Line speed was too slow, Ennis killed us and got them rolling forward very fast, Lockyer is a passenger without Carroll, Yow Yeh and Folau were continually stranded by poor reads from Parker and Lockyer, marker defense was crap.

Positives; With limited opportunities we executed pretty well and made the scoreline look prettier than it could have been.

I agree with pretty much all of this.

On that point Coxy, I agree the defense was... argh.

Lockyer, look - I'm not one of those "his over the hill" but his body is definitely feeling the times now that is for sure. This was highlighted by the origin game. You can tell its hard for him to keep up. I'm still happy to see him go around and add finishing touches. Age is a hard battle in a young man's game.
My main point though is, what does the skipper say to the team behind the posts when he lets those tries in? [eusa_eh I mean, how many times do we see it? If we can see it, the players can see it. I'm not having a go, but it must be awkward to go behind the posts after he lets in those 'similar' type of tries. (You know where he just falls off or stands flat footed etc.)

You make a very good point, it would be hard for the captain to yell at the team to tighten things up when he is the one causing the most leaks. His defense has gotten even worse this year (Carroll going is probably a big contributing factor), Henjak needs to give him a minder who will read the play and discourage him from rushing up into no mans land and also making good first contact to take the sting out of the bigger ball runners. At the moment Parker isn't giving him any help reading the play and he isn't a good one on one tackler and doesn't halt the runners momentum meaning Lockyer is constantly getting engaged in other people's defensive work when he is struggling enough with his own.

I think a few positives came out of last night..

Clinton showed he is the Prop we need up front.
The forwards as a unit were not really out muscled IMO.
If our defense was better we would have been in the match.

Negatives.

When KHUNT leaves the whole left will be massive..
Michaels is shit.
Henjak should have played Marsh.
Defense what defense the doggies killed us on the fringes all night.

I'm totally with you broncoangel. I watch footy because I enjoy it. I get a bit cranky after a loss but it certainly doesn't ruin my weekend, at the most it ruins that night. Maybe that makes me not as big a fan as some people but I don't really care, it's not a competition.

I would rather focus on positives than negatives, just because it's more fun that way and makes me look forward to the next game even more.

I have no idea why, because I've been a member here for 8 or 9 years, but I'm still surprised at how negative people get after any loss. I don't know whether it's their personality, or they're just in a bad mood after a loss and need to vent, but it's hard to read sometimes. You would think I'd learn to avoid this place after games like that [icon_lol1.

I was filthy after the game against storm and it ruined my weekend for sure but last night I was actually happy, I really don't care if they lose as long as they put in effort they did that yesterday and that's all I could possibly ask or expect from a team with terrible preparation.

The only time the feelings after a loss have really carried on for me was the semi against the storm last year. That totally ruined my month, and I was still having regular flashbacks of Locky's reaction until the season started again this year [icon_lol1.

The team has fallen to bits and all this lack of prep crap is a waste of time. The culture is wrong and when all else fails... Blame the aging captain. Crap!

Lockyer to me looks like a player who is sick of playing in a team that expects him to do everything. Our pack fails to make yards and then expect him to do it for them. Our half and dummy half fail to read the game and look for holes and find them, then wait for him to do it... and our backs, well these million dollar super strars, they wait for this money ball that will put them into open space instead of getting into a position that only requires the ball, and they are through.

Lockyer does heaps in attack and defence and still we're up him. Our pack gives him no room to move and we're up him. He runs in or up to try and pull off a huge wrap up of the ball early to help the team or stop ANOTHER try, and we're up him. The whole team fails to stop the other team from off loading at will and then when he gets pushed off, we're up him. Hardly a single players is able to get an arm free and off load(while every other club in the comp can) and when Locky does it and the ball goes to ground, we're up him.

You want Parker as your captain or Wallace or Hunt as your main play maker, good luck! you'll never see the 8 again. If players don't wrap the ball up, make good yards, get the odd off load away and yeah... run till they're can't walk, then the club is screwed... and yeah, we'll blame Lockyer.

The Broncos have built their reputation on having a team full of great players and normally one of the world's best players and NO! game plan, just send 'em out there and see what they can do. This culture ends up with a situation where almost everyone is waiting for someone else to get the job done, and before you know it, no one did it.

For many years the one they turn to has been Locky and most of the time he can manage it with the help of a few others. When these "others" don't do so much anymore, then the amount that Locky can do becomes less and less.

I hate the fact that after so many other players have let the side down so many times over so many years, that now we are pointing the finger at Lockyer. We have played average at best all year and been very lucky to have got the wins that we have, and now that our luck has faded and our captain stuffs a few things up... we're at him!

Broncos(over the last few years) - Lockyer = none of the last 4 premierships
Broncos(over the rest of this season) - Lockyer = hardly another victory.

Be very careful what you wish for...

I get over most losses pretty quickly, apart from the games we throw away.. and the semi-final last year.

Just means the footy show and Road won't be as pleasant on Sunday.

I have no issue with Locky nor that he ran out of the line. For every try he lets through, he probably puts on two or more so who cares, really.

The scoreline is irrelevant much the same as the game last night itself - it shouldn't have occurred, point each and be done with it.

I think many expect far too much from Locky. The guy is a champ and champs just don't become nobodies overnight.
Hard to hear Bronc supporters talking about the guy the way some have. Each to their own but just remember who pulls out the magic play 99% of the time when we need it.

Don't get upset over losses anymore. Taught myself it is too much wasted energy as who gives a s**** next win anyhow.
I will however always be gutted over last years final against the Storm(that too is fading slowly). I believe it was the teams approach to that game otherwise that GF could have been ours so in a way why waste the energy on them. My biggest problem with that game is that I fear it will be our last chance for a very long time.
