POST GAME Post Game Discussion - Round 1 - South Sydney

The worst thing about last night, was not the performance of the Broncos, but the performance of Guss Gould in the commentary. I cannot wait until the current tv rights are up and channel 9 don't have the NRL anymore.

Nashy, have you seen some of the rules in the game? It's a crap-shoot but it makes sense and there is a distinction between it and the rule I'm confusing it with.

Wouldn't he need to put his foot back in play before touching the ball though? If you step over the sideline whilst chasing a ball, I'm fairly certain your feet need to touch the ground inside the line for you to be back in play.
His left foot was in play. His right foot was in the air when he caught the ball.

Clueless is the nicest, softest description I have for this post.

To be fair, not everyone was able to see him destroy a bunch of 17 year olds before all of his surgeries.

But his right foot was out of play prior to being in the air. At least if we're talking sidelines, I'm fairly sure he's still out until his right foot touches the turf in play. I don't know about the dead ball line though.

Maybe @1910 can clarify the rule.

I think in the situation your talking about, both feet are usually over the sideline and he must get at least one foot back in play before touching the ball.

Yes, that was a goal line drop-out every day of the week.
Regardless of where his right foot had been before, he was in the field of play when he caught the ball (left foot), and took the ball out of play himself when he put his right foot down.
I thought the same, but watching it we cant see when he actually touches the ball. if he catches it high up on his chest his foot was in the air = dropout. if he catches it around his belly then his foot was on the ground = penalty.

the replay angles i saw were inconclusive so can't really be too unhappy with it.

if you have a foot in the field you can touch a foot over the sideline, lift it up in to the air and then catch the ball without being out.

According to the rulebook, a goal line drop out is awarded from the kick off if the ball bounces and goes out or the player catches it while he is in the field of play and touches the line..

They aren't very clear on the rule and I've seen similar incidents like this that have gone against the team catching the ball.. Like the incident with Hilder in Broncos first game against the Titans..

That's exactly what he is, lol.

Reynolds can kick better, but that doesn't make him a "damm fine halfback".

Having a great pack makes things pretty easy for him, but he is in every other aspect than kicking, nothing more than average. I stand by that statement!

>cough cough...splutter< ...wot??

You're talking about Peter The Great.....the same Peter Wallace whose posters you've only just recently removed off your bedroom wall !!

That is true, although it was a bit more than just against 17 y/olds... but judging a player coming back from 3 seasons cruelled with serious injuries based on 2 games, especially the 2 in question (one in a potato field in England, and the other in a self-destructive game against souffs), is what exactly?

I know he has the talent and he is a very capable ball player, but I don't know whether his injuries have taken his edge off. He certainly deserves a bit more than a couple of games to show where he's at, especially since all he did wrong, was drop one sitter after being illegally bashed all night long with the refs connivance.

Kahu showed some class in a trial a couple of years back..

He has the skills, he just hasn't had any chance to really show them. Give the guy a break.

The thing that bugs me is that the video referee has more than enough time to check the replay and tell the referee to pause and call it back if need be.

Thankfully it meant absolutely nothing but I'd hate to see them muck it up in a game of importance...

...

Like they have.

Not sure if that was a crack at me or Kahu as a fullback? While he has been limited by injuries over the years, what explosive speed, sure handedness under the high ball, last ditch defense, kicking or passing has he shown? I got nothing against the guy but really doubt that fb is his best position.

If I see one more fucking rabbitohs jersey tonight ill make sure to let them know 1 premiership every 40 odd years isn't too bad.

**** NSW.:hurt:

the problem was that unless they had another angle that they didnt show on tv then going to the video wouldnt really have helped as you couldnt see the exact moment he caught the ball.
