Post Game - Knights V Broncos.

Maranta was brilliant and showed great determination to pull down a much bigger man. He also showed good speed to catch Gagai from behind when it looked like he was in the clear.

Reed was great, but I still can't help but wonder, with Boyd obviously favouring the left side of the field with all backline moves, and with Milford now warming to the task, how good it would be to have Copley at left centre instead of Reed. I just feel Copley would offer a lot more with the same amount of opportunities Reed is getting. Its a shame though that Copley gets injured before his return game after being dropped a couple of weeks ago.

I also enjoyed Bennett recognising areas we could improve and taking action by making a few crucial adjustments. For instance moving Kahu to fullback and Maranta to centre, as well as later on moving Maranta out to the wing and putting Vidot at centre.

I think Bennett realised Kahu offers a lot more attacking wise than Maranta while still being just as safe under the high ball. Kahu to fullback was the turning point I believe, and you could see the immediate difference straight from the kickoff. The first try after halftime could be put down due to the Kahu linebreak due to some brilliant footwork. That was the difference in the end as it got us on a roll and back on the front foot.

Likewise Maranta's inexperience in defending at centre was becoming a bit noticeable. Bennett realised that Maranta was ever so slightly getting caught out of position and made the change before the Knights fully exploited it.

lol at the knights fans boo'ing over that last penalty in front of the sticks.

Have been to heaps of games at Newcastle & they would boo Santa.

One game I went to I was sitting amount women who were knitting during the game. All I could hear was the clicking of the knitting needles. (the memories of the old Knights hill sitting on the ground.

I'm very proud and happy after that game. To come from 12 points behind away from home without your representative stars is an achievement no matter who you're playing although Newcastle were terrible in the second half.

Everybody stood up and did their job and again we didn't drop our heads when were behind and in dire straits. A year ago if we were down 18-6 and on the back foot I doubt we would've scored 25 unanswered points without conceding any and winning by 13. The confidence and belief Wayne has installed into the team has been evident.

Milford is continuing his good form and is settled into the style of play we're used to. I feel very confident about the future of the club and the guys coming through after seeing a game like this. I'm repeating myself from earlier but to win like that was great and it shows we've got some good kids in the ranks that are coming into the team.

Very happy and proud that totally made my day and night.

The Knights second half was so poor even Joey is calling Newcastle embarrassing.

Couldn't care less that I got 1/4 in the tipping, what a great win.

Milford, Milford, Milford. How good is this guy going to be? I honestly thought after the first few weeks that we wouldn't be seeing his best until maybe the end of the season or even NEXT season.. it literally took him about a month to become his dangerous self again, and he's virtually improving every week, I love it.

Hunt was good (Still had his usual few potato kicks, but he'll eventually get those out of his game hopefully), McCullough was great (56 tackles!), Maranta was safe, Kahu was brilliant as per usual (Have we found our new permanent goal kicker? He strikes them better than anyone else on the team, and he's young enough to be able to improve over the next few seasons)

3. Milford
2. Kahu
1. McCullough

Bennett would definitely be taking a serious look at Kahu as goal kicker after last night. I was really surprised. 4 from 4 when you've never kicked goals in first grade before is nothing to scoff at

The best thing about the game was that it was very obvious that the coaching staff identified a weakness in the Newcastle left edge and exploited it with a well developed game plan.

Yes definitely. They saw that Milf, Reed and Oates were having a field day on that left edge late in the first half then immediately exploited it in the second.

lol at the knights fans boo'ing over that last penalty in front of the sticks ... Sims should've got 200 in the bin for that.
Didn't surprise me, I live in newy and go to every broncos game here and Knights fans have to be close to the most uneducated fans out there. And you can bet that this was all the refs fault haha

Just happy to hear people being so positive on here for a change.

:)

In saying that though, i agree with the Copley comments earlier - he'll do bettet with the space Milford is creating for the edge. Reed has been denying his winger a chance to do their jobs this year on a few occasions.

Hunt i thought was very ordinary tonight. . All he really tried to do was don't and go himself. :/ not the best play. Plus tonight he didn't really do well with his kicking game. I usually stick up for it due to the fact that he will put in some usual bombs accompanied by some prefect, smart kicks.. Actually, he did get one flukey one away ( that booted clearance kick from his own 30m line that went over gagai's head)

But what an awesome game.

3 Milford
2 Macca
1 Glenn
1 Kahu

I thought Hunt took the ball to the line, drew plenty of defenders and gave Milford space last night

Was working my seventh straight late night at work, but having this live via the app was a godsend.

Hard to catch all the finer details due to working throughout, but absolutely stoked with that win. I've had little confidence in our ability to fight back from a 12 point deficit over these last few years, but we're looking a different beast this year. Especially pleasing given the absence of six of our best.

I'll admit to questioning my tip when Newcastle scored three back to back but we came good as I'd anticipated. Every team I've seen play the Knights has exploited them out wide, and I was confident we could do the same.

Particularly impressed by Kahu. For all the setbacks he's suffered, he's really justifying the wraps many had on him. Immensely courageous and gutsy to boot.

Very pleased with Milford this game too. His natural gifts were always going to be applicable at 6, he just needed time to adjust to the time and space available.

Not the strongest game from Hunt but I do think he's doing a better job marshalling the troops and controlling the flow of play then he was last year. Personally, I think he and Milf are looking more and more a settled combination each week.

What a fucking win! Interrupted for me by the neighbour's dog killing a possum and my dog going ballistic like there was someone in the house.

And also the shitty Telstra NRL app constantly trying to go hi-res on my Optus Cable. I am totally cool with low res SD, so long as it's constant FFS.

Well that was one of the most impressive wins of the year.

It says something about your side when Copley can't get a run. Despite Vidot's near 200 meters, I think we have seen the last of him at wing. That said, I would love to see how he goes at prop which funny enough I mentioned here last year.

I thought Milford was great but would of given Kahu man of the match. Great to see he can kick as well. He is a much better striker of the ball in the sense of not looking mechanical as the other kicking options. Also good to see that Milford has a boot on him as well.

What can I say, after a win like that with 6 out on the road from behind, I am a believer.

The only thing missing was chairing Stagg off the field. Thanks for the effort old timer.

Great come back, really happy with the attitude of the team as a whole this year. Blair atoned for his sins of last week I thought: error free, ran for 100, hard in defence.

18-6 down, away from home, 6 players out with origin and on the wrong side of the ref and we manage to not only pull it back but run away with it in the end. Lesser teams would have folded but not this team and not with Bennett there. He is making the players believe in themselves and its something we have been missing for a couple of years. I cant pick on a single person last night in that game as they gave their all. Staggy tackled himself to a stand still, Glenn & Blair led our forward pack, Milford dominated, Reed gave Mata'utai nightmares, Oates was strong, Hunt and Macca guided us around the park, Maranta wow that tackle at the end and I could literally go on and on. Even Whitchurch put a couple of hits on. Only disappointment for the night was the injury to Nikorama (hope its not too serious). Its wins like this that will be a telling story at the end of the year.
