POST GAME POST GAME [Round 2, 2023] Broncos vs Cowboys

its amazing how out of touch the nrl is with these sort of things.

Most fans of other teams (except cowboys) are saying 3 weeks for that is no were near good enough.

When fans of other teams are agreeing with broncos you know the nrl have fucked up well and truly.

Disagree. 4 minimum I think, regardless of whether they should or not they'll take the fact that he broke Oates jaw into account.
I think because of the severity of the injury....they'll go the max .....ie 4 weeks.

Why was the injury taken into account for carrigans hip drop yet it wasn't for this tackle... broncos! Reece Walsh does that same tackle on kyle felt with the same result I guarantee it would be 5-6 weeks minimum to "set an example and a standard about head strikes!"

Mate, you are kidding yourself. HE GOT A BROKEN JAW FROM AN ILLEGAL TACKLE ON THE WAY TO THE TRYLINE THAT PREVENTED HIM FROM SCORING. Wtf is a penalty try if that isn't one? Please, give me the definition? You're practically saying he should have scored anyway, with a BROKEN JAW. It became his 2nd priority!!!!! He wouldn't have even been able to think straight, his JAW SPLIT IN HALF.

I just cannot fathom that you don't think it's a penalty try. Very weird hill to die on. I am seriously having trouble even contemplating your train of thought here. His opportunity to score was altered, massively, by an illegal play. There is no way on this earth he doesn't simply roll over, which he had ample opportunity to do, if he didn't have a broken jaw. Even my mates who hate the broncos have said it was the clearest penalty try they've seen. It's very, very similar to 99 storm vs dragons gf (high shot, didn't get the ball down, would have). Are you suggesting he stops moving forward after he got hit? Bcos that's the only way it fits your definition.

My understanding has always been that there has to be little to no doubt the attacking player would score. I can't say that here - there were three Cowboys players around Oates, and even if there hadn't been high contact there was every chance he'd be held up. Therefore penalty for the foul play, but no penalty try.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I actually couldn’t care less what suspension players get if it doesn’t impact our team. No amount of weeks will unbreak Oates jaw. Drinkwater got punished appropriately during our game and any suspension now will only benefit our competitors. We don’t play the cows again until round 23 so unless it’s a 20+ game suspension I don’t really care.

you have a point except for the punished appropriatly. The general concensus from fans and even a portion of the bias media is drinkwater was very lucky to not be gone for the whole game.

Yeah he could consider himself lucky I guess but it wasn’t an outrageous decision to not make it a send off.

The negative views on here about Staggs are a bit over the top. His defence was excellent and he was error free. You can't compare him to the other side of the field where all our attacking flare went.

Look...you may be right about Staggs (most likely you are)....I guess there's a growing number of fans who are missing seeing Staggs, the explosive runner
we all know he can be.....

and I'm seeing some signs of laziness. A good gauge on a player's interest in the game is his kick chase.....
I don't think Kotoni is up there with the others in terms of enthusiasm......

either that or he's not fit enough.

guess so but a shit call is a still a shit call.

I know its tin foil hat stuff but im so convinced if this wasn't a broncos player and was say penrith with cleary or souths with latrell or roosters with tedasco.
Drinkwater would be sitting on the sidelines a hell of a lot longe then just 3 weeks.

If a player fouls an opponent who is touching down for a try, a penalty kick at goal shall be
taken from in front of the goal posts after the attempt to convert the try. Section 13 (9)
Touching down includes:
a. In the act of scoring; and
b. Until the try scorer regains his feet.

SF is probably saying he wasn't in the act of scoring because he was too far out, but he was definitely in the act of scoring so you are correct.

Pretty sure that rule is for when the player has legitimately scored - so say they have grounded the ball cleanly and the fullback comes in with knees afterwards. The rule that applies when the player doesn't ground the ball due to foul play is just before that in the rule book:

other than the NRL's apparent position in the media of being highly conscious of foul play ......particularly making contact with the head.
So it's a bit more confusing/outrageous than you are making out.

It should have been a send off....in today's climate.

The UK does have a population close to three times ours, and much more densely packed around city centers and regionally as well. That would help, you'd think.

It does, but any game thats a derby game like ours pretty much at every level professionally sells out. At the very top level, which would be the equivalent to a premier league game, there wouldnt be a spare seat. I just always find it disapointing when big games, not just with us either, cant fill a stadium.

So Tapau wasn't charged?
see thats another baffling call from the judiciary. this one benefits us but **** me when will this get consistant. Was not much in the tackle but lets be honest it was a hip drop.... If player gets injured there you bet he would be cited.

So weird that the nrl sometimes base suspensions on injury and other times they do not.
