POST GAME POST GAME [Round 3, 2023] Broncos vs Dragons

Watching the replay, I'm actually surprised the Paix try didn't go upstairs to the bunker.

Watching all available angles on the broadcast frame-by-frame, I can't find one that shows the ball touching the ground. There's a couple that shows hands under the ball. Looks very much like he was held up.

I think they had enough to overturn that or take another look at the very least, so I'm surprised they didn't. We got a bit lucky there.
i think these days they all go upstairs someone would have looked at it for it to not be called back probably means either they saw an angle we dont see of it going down or that they couldnt over turn it.

but who knows its the nrl ive given up trying to keep on top of the rules of the bunker

Every single try is reviewed upstairs and if they can’t clear it in time that’s when they stop the game and say it is being reviewed. They clearly saw an angle straight up that showed it grounded.

So no we didn’t get lucky, Paix scored a great try.

very good possibility that it's the fact that Paix is coming on against tired defence, which allows Paix to put those stats on the board.

Billy starting and taking the brunt of the fresh defence, with Paix taking on the tiring legs is working. no need to fix what isn't broken
Absolutely correct. We have also spent the first twenty minutes defending all year.

This is where the broncos should have kicked up a stink with ref. It very well could have been an 8 point try.

Oates was hit last year after a try by fermor against the titans, but we did nothing then too.

Refs dont do shit unless there is an injury or the team starts pushing and shoving and questioning the ref. I hate it, but we have to do it as every other team does.
We were getting hit high left, right and centre last night and nothing was being done about it. What is the rule this year? I thought we were stamping out high contact entirely, but it seems it's only when it's the 16 other teams.

There's no way one of the angles upstairs didn't show it. We got tries taken off us for juggling the ball, they weren't just going to hand us one where it didn't touch the ground.

That was billshit. It wasn’t tapped over the defender and regained in a forward position. It was juggled in the act of taking possession. How many try’s are juggled in the air before coming down with the ball and scoring. Bullshit.

Looked like a tap to me, I thought it was the right call. Also swear I saw the ball get to the ground in the first angle replay they showed of staggs’ try, looked fair in my eyes.

I know we all just take Haas’s output for granted these days but it needs to be highlighted.

59 minutes
18 runs
240 run metres
104 post contact metres
2 tackle breaks
2 offloads results in 2 line breaks
Both resulted in tries
26 tackles
0 missed
0 errors
1 penalty

He is really an unbelievable player. I hope Kev continues to resist over playing him.

I know there has been some talk of Capewell being a bit underwhelming with his missed tackles, but something that can't be ignored is his support plays, and the NRL stats show he is far away the best in the game at it:
Player in support

Capewell is having a good season in my opinion. Not the bargiest khunt with the ball, but he does a mountain of work off it and sets standards. A few crappy defensive reads here and there but he has young Mam next to him, it was always going to happen.
Mam hits hard, but his positioning in D is a bit average sometimes.

Agree. I don't think a lot of us "get" Capewell, but he's just a bit different, i think.

Adding to the love for Payne Haas - that 10 minute stint at the end: WOW. Fresh legs much? Him ripping into it with the passion and speed of the first carry of a grand final. He single-handedly wrecked the Dragons chances.

ARey reminds me so much of Lockyer in his final years. Didn't always have the leg speed and the skills to do it all himself like in the younger years, but.... The mind, the presence, the awareness, the planning ahead like a chess master. The KICKING!

I don't think I've ever been this impressed with an external recruit.

That's just the way Mam is. He looks very uncomfortable when the cameras are on him after the game.

It was just a knee clash, he'll be all good.
He looked nervous because he had a shocker in defence.

@Super Freak I agree with you mate. I just think the ref went with; it looks like a duck, it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck…it’s a duck. Great decision if you ask me 😂

I see why all the hate on Capwell, he really had a Barry Crocker this game. But overall, support play or not, he is a senior voice in our side, like an ARey or Tapau. You need guys like that. Sure, you want guys to lead with action not words, but don’t underestimate the value of that old head telling you to get up and go again. It’s how we’ve always built our pack. From experienced old heads passing down to the young bucks. Then repeat 🔁.

Yeah but the reasonably weighted people can manoeuvre themselves to get between you and the seat in front of you, the fat ***** need you to stand up because they have zero agility at all.
Wish I could agree with you but I can't. When we were getting towelled up at the end of last year you couldn't wipe the smile from Meninga's face when commenting after the game where as last night it looked like he had swallowed a bag of lemons.

The seats at Suncorp are tight also. Always have to stand up when somebody wants some chips during the game.
One of the reasons I don’t miss going to games. Annoying ***** that always interrupt by leaving their seats up to 5 times a night.

You don’t need more drinks at the 60th minute ffs. Watch the game or **** off to the pub
