Post game talk Broncos VS Bunnies

He was out injured, had been playing decent footy before that but IMO not better than Boyd or Kemp for that matter. I know I certainly didn't agree with the decision at the time and have never really rated him as anything other than a solid attacker which he isn't even doing this year. He's pathetic and needs to be dumped to regain some confidence or preferably cut altogether.

Michaels is still attacking decently, as his try tally indicates (he is second in the club behind Folau), granted he has bombed quite a few tries by his inability or unwillingness to pass to his winger. IMO, Michaels should be playing on the wing

we kept Michaels instead of Boyd - WHY?????

Because the club wanted to be seen as supportive to an injured player.. it was poor judgment.

No, this is STILL the right move by the club. I'm sick to death of people continually bringing this up. Michaels at the time was playing great footy, you're an idiot if you can't acknowledge that.

Both short and long term Michaels was the cheaper option.

How on Earth would we be able to fund a backline consisting of Hunt, Hodges, Boyd, Folau, Lockyer and Wallace?

IT IS JUST NOT FEASIBLE

If anything the choice was between Folau and Boyd, and the club chose Folau.

^ I was replying to that/

*Btw plenty of people thought Michaels was SOLID - plenty said they would rather Boyd or Kemp than Michaels and some even still didn't rate him.

You are correct when you say that at the time Michaels was playing great footy and in the past I have been one of Michaels' biggest fans on this forum (as Queenslander reminds me, and fair enough - you were right about that one I can fully admit that). At the time though when he was playing great footy and it became apparent that we had to choose between the 2, I said the Boyd should be priority. I stand by that.

At the end of the day Michaels should not be selected on his form last year which it seems like he has been this year... The axe must fall on the Bronco team. Henjak needs to bite the bullet a drop some big names otherwise we are on our way to more and more hidings...

They need to bring up some guys from the feeder clubs. Scott Smith at hooker is killing it for burleigh he would be good around the rucks and has a great kicking game. I would put Wallace at 5/8 and put Nat Bowman from central comets at halfback he was qld cup player of the yr last yr and I think he could make the step up. Karl Johnson is a great centre for the comets as well. Why are we keeping the same players that aren't doing the job? We seem to drop a guy for shit form and rotate him to qld cup and bring up another one who was shit and dropped to qld cup. Aaron Sweeney at prop for burleigh is playing well and was talked about being a starter this season why not give him a run? Isaak Ah Mau and Benny Vaeau deserve a go, Vaeau especially he was a solid as a 1st grader for the cowboys and is in good form for easts in the qld cup. Mark Leafa has been great for norths and played for qld residents why not call him up? Luke DALZIEL DON is a great backrower for wynumm scores alot of tries and could do the job for us as well. Kurtis Lingwoodock for the under 20's was great for Ipswich in q cup last yr and he's playing well for the under 20's give him a run as well.

I would look at putting this team out:
1. Hunt
2. Winterstein
3. Karl Johnson/ Alex Glenn
4. Hodges
5. Josh Hoffman
6. Wallace
7. Nat Bowman
8. Joel Clinton
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Williams
12. T'eo
13. Parker

14. Scott Smith
15. Carroll
16. Taylor
17. Laeafa/ Ah Mau/ Sweeney/ Vaeau

1. Hunt
2. Winterstien
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Yow Yeh
6. Hunt
7. Wallace
8. Kenny
9. McCullough
10. Clinton
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Carroll
15. Sweeney
16. Taylor
17. Marsh

1.Hoffman
2.Yow Yeh
3.Hodges
4.Copley
5.Winterstein
6.Karmichael Hunt
7.Peter Wallace
8.Nick Kenny
9.Andrew McCullough
10.Dave Taylor
11.Alex Glenn
12.Sam Thaiday
13.Corey Parker

14.Joel Clinton
15.Tonie Carroll
16.Josh McGuire
17.Whoever you like, so long as they don't have red hair

Hoffman is safe at fullback and needs to learn the position there. Perfect opportunity to do that. Hunt at five eight will be better than Gorrell and the other Hunt. Taylor needs to start, so we have a chance of being on the front foot for once. Glenn is much more useful as a backrower. He can also effectively play the utility role, eliminating the need to have one on the bench.

Yea this is a good idea.
Heres my opinion on these players. Feel free to add anything/correct me as I only get to see the game a week on ABC.
Scott Smith:(hooker) He would be fantastic to bring in. He has a fantastic kicking game from dummy half and has kicked quite a few 40/20s this year. He has good leadership and is a solid defender as all hookers should be. Only problem is I think we are best off having a hooker who can play 80mins and just the last few weeks McCullough has started to do that and he has improved. Plus he is about 26 isn't he? So he is fairly experienced age wise.

Nat Bowman:(halves) Would also be a good inclusion. A heck of a lot better than Gorrell anyway. I would probably rather play him rather than B Hunt at the moment and I have been saying that all year. Also age isn't a worry.

Karl Johnson:(centre) I would rather Dale Copley from the U20s. He looks like a good prospect and is very young.

Aaron Sweeney:(prop) Form hasn't been the same as last year but has still been good in all the game I have seen. His behavior is a lot better this year but because he is a very aggressive player he can give away stupid penalties/make stupid errors at times. I have been all for him getting a shot this year on the bench.

Isaak Ah Mau and Benny Vaeau:(prop) Haven't seen enough of them to comment tbh. I liked Vaeau when he was at the cowboys, he was huge.

Kurtis Lingwoodock: Goes alright I heard. Is a strong defender too.

Luke DALZIEL DON:(back rower) Was fantastic in the City vs Country game I watched. Not sure if that was just a lucky game or if he usual players like that. But that performance was very impressive. Plus I love saying his name. icon_thumbs_u

Mark Leafa:(prop) Big rough and tough prop that would be able to stick it up some of the NRL props I reckon.

Out of all of those I think only Ah Mau, Sweeney and Bowman have some sort of contract with us. Not 100% sure though.

A few other I might add that have impressed me in some QLD cup games I have seen are:

Aaron Summers:(prop) Only seen him play in the City vs Country game but he really lead country around the field and impressed me a lot. He is pretty old though (28).

Kane Manihera: (Wing) I like how this guy has been playing this year but I heard he has a attitude problem and thats why he didn't get re-signed and it's why Redcliffe didn't want him this year so he moved to Burleigh Bears. Aparently he wanted to sign with the Melbourne Storm this year but they denied him because of his attitude. So unfortunately I can't see him getting a shot.

Matt Gillett:(Lock/Five Eight) Started the year at Five eight for norths but moved into lock and has been playing really well as a ball runner. I read somewhere that he attracted a bit of attention from the Broncos too. I like the look of this guy.

Mark Cantoni: Plays for Northern Pride though.. Is 30 (bit too old i guess :( ) and plays second row and he had a killer game in the City vs country game. Scored 3 tries and got MOTM. Him and Dalziel Don had the best game for a backrower I have seen in a while. (Up until Watmough and SOO the other night)

I wonder how Spence is going since coming back from injury. Does anyone know? I really liked him last year in the U20s.

Just quickly - haven't posted in a while - um why has no-one else noticed that Corey's form has hit bottom since he was overlooked for origin duty, he should not bee in the side at the moment, let alone captain - I think a stint in Q Cup would help him re-focus

Gotta disagree on the comment that Parkers from is bad.

I think he's been one of our best the last few games

Probably because that is completely wrong. That could be why..
Corey is one of the very few players who actually deserve their spot in the team.

hodges and winterstein should be on the right side together so hodges can move to the wing close to the line to defend the kicks, michaels to the other wing and bring in a good defensive centre beside him, i dont know enough about the feeder teams to say who that should be, when izzy comes back micheals and winterstein would be fighting for that one spot on the left wing. hoffman to fullback cause if karmicheal is going he can start learning his trade now. K. Hunt to play at 5/8th and wallace to stay at 7. the back row should be williams thiday and parker, front row clinton and kenny(if injured still mcguire) hooker mcCullough. bench is pretty easy, caroll, mcguie, pj and taylor. this gives a good mix of experience and youth. for the record i feel michaels has got something to offer, his confidence is down at the moment, but he has some speed and occasionally brings out a good fend so playing him on the wing could help him rebuild his confidence.

when darren comes back play k at fullback early then move him to around the ruck/2nd row (his origin role) and put hoffman to fullback

David Hala in the Under 20's has been really impressive up front, always bursting through tackles. Would be quite handy to have off the bench IMO.
