Pre Game & In Match Thread

My points on the game.

QLD Good Points
Too classy across the board.
It is hard to beat pretty much the Australian backline.
Forwards did well in going forward and finishing their their tackles.
Attacking Tahu and Hayne's side payed off twice or more.
Ballin played really well for his first Origin game. Handled the pressure well and got them moving every set.

Qld Bad Points
Got away with a fair bit in the rucks. Layed all over NSW for most of the game.
Lost count of the amount of forward passes they got away with.

NSW Good points
In patches defensively we were in the match.
Ennis, Watmough, Gidley and Hayne probably our best performers which is saying something.
Idris handled himself ok for his first game, but almost dropped the ball on his first carry.

NSW Bad Points.
Team selections was stupid.
Again our halves went missing.
Kimmorley looked lost.
We need a 5/8 - Campese, Barrett or Carney should have been there and moving Lyon to his more dangerous position.
Hayne needs to be at fullback or get his hands on the ball a lot more, though Gidley was improved in his attack.
We need to have specialist wingers and centres playing in their positions.
After the 20 min mark when QLD started coming back our gameplan turned to shit and we had nothing.
No real ball movement, it all looked rushed and messy.
Most of our attacking plays came down to kick it high and hope for the best.
The Creagh try shouldn't have been given.
The knock back was very close but I think they got it right.
Other than that nothing to cheer about.
Poor crowd.

Congrats to QLD. As usual played better in the conditions and frankly looked like they were playing dry night football. Hopefully we can go up to QLD and step up.

Did anyone else think this game didn't seem as aggressive as a usual Origin?

i think it went both ways with that tho seemed like there couldve been a few penalties for laying in the ruck but they let them all go.
And i thought tahu was agressive with all those elbows and swinging arms he was throwing in in the tackles

I thought so too, it never looked like exploding into the biff that we were promised. I'd put it down to the wet weather though. Both teams had to seriously concentrate just to hang onto the ball and were trying to play as safely as possible.

I didn't notice this from Qld, but saw plenty of both aspects from NSW (slightly biased perhaps? lol). Based on that, I'd suggest it went both ways. I thought the refs had a shocker tonight, especially in the last 10 min as BroncoMatt said.

Yep, I thought that too.
+1, seemed like a club game, intensity was lacking but QLD didn't need to be intense because they can beat NSW with eyes closed icon_smile

Bit hard in the wet tho. You would want to make sure of the tackle rather then risk a line break

It is only because the NSW clowns were talking up a fight all week,.... It was a normal Origin game just that everyone expected a biff

The difference is QLD got away with it. The first penalty to QLD came of NSW laying down to long. But I was screaming at the TV earlier with them (QLD) laying all over for longer periods. Bias maybe. We didn't get the fair share of the 50/50 calls until the last 15 mins to even it up.

Yeah a bit harder to set yourself for a big hit in the wet, I thought we turned to a more effective tackling style. Although I saw Petero pull off a ringer on Idiris about midway through the 2nd half.

Well you did have Ennis giving away stupid ruck penalties

Yep, it was Lahrs, I knew it was a tall fella. Lahrs didn't know what hit him!

i was really happy with scott and petero tonight i had never really seen much of scott to impress me until tonight but it looked like he put in 100%

His legs ended up everywhere lol

It was a weird, slow game without a great deal of oomph.

But it was another bloody awesome win to Queensland!

Points from the game

1. Perry and White have to be the biggest softc@$k frontrowers running around.
2. NSW need some speed in the halves
3. Bad decisions both ways but in the end the result was right
4. Hayne has to be fullback
5. Bellamy is proving he can't coach without his superstars, zero imagination.
6. NSW can't score without lots of luck or bad refs calls.
7. NSW have no leader.
8. What happened in the last 10 - 15 mins raffertys rules? I thought it was union for a while.

Bad refs calls both ways IMO.
I thought NSW were way offside most of the first 20mins.
NSW got 12 points from knock ons
We did get away with a few forward passes however.

I thought Slater had a bit of a shocker tonight. I wasn't expecting too much from him, attacking-wise, but a fullback of his callibre and experience should not be making mistakes like that.

i thought that creagh try was the worst it seemed to me like he was just trying to look like he was putting an effort in to stop the ball

Slater cut NSW to pieces in attack though. Sure that Creagh try he stuffed up and he dropped a bomb but I thought he was pretty good considering the conditions.

I think people thought some of Thurston's passes were forward, especially the ones where he picked up a forward off his hip - however he was falling backwards to make it look like he was going to hit Lockyer as the 2nd man.

Nah I didn't think any of Thurston's were. I am sure Ballin and Lockyer were the ones who threw the ones I can remember. There was like 3 in like a minute and you guys either scored shortly after or got a penalty.
