It is interesting in hindsight, I think in both cases, Dearden and Coates, we actually came out of it far better in Mam and Cobbo. Admittedly, Dearden has turned into a really good player and has played origin but is a totally different player to Mam and doesn't have the x-factor that Ezra has. Coates hasn't progressed at all and also doesn't have the x-factor or metre making ability Cobbo has, in fact it is embarrassing how regularly someone Coates' size gets manhandled on kick returns.

I also think we should win this, the Storm look as bad as they have in a very, very long time but bad Storm is still a good team and they always play perfect / get the flukiest tries of the season against us year in, year out. I do think we can do to them what Souths did but will we?

That famous Wayne Gretzky quote comes to mind "The more I train, the luckier I get".

For the record, it was two months between him saying he wanted to be a Bronco for life and signing with the Storm:

And his defection came after the club flicked his BFF, who it had previously anointed as its future, and who had also declared the same as Coates:

Dearden (don’t care that he played origin, he’s been Mia all year and only looks decent in sides that are dominating. Mam is already a better player) and Coates (Oates, cobbo, arthars would be ahead of him if he was still here) are rubbish, I’m glad they’re gone.

Wonder if its for capewell. He didnt look good for a while there and i think if there are any doubts id rest him.
His defence has not been at its best but his attack has been on point with numerous tries/line breaks.
I think a rest might be good for whatever has been niggling him anyway.

Would be good to see what Piaks has as well.

I'm scared of what big Nelson could do to us. Our defence on the wings has not been great, with lots of meters gained and he could wreck havoc.

I always put a 'L' beside the Storm during the season and I expect no different. No matter what form the two teams have leading in it always results in a loss for us.

I have a feeling about this game and I think we will finally ice the storm. Last year we nearly iced them with the almost the same outfit bar Reynolds. The second game was an anomaly with haas, capes, staggs all injured and carrigan out. Have faith, we will bash the grubby storm

On a serious note, i remember him well mate, i was pissed when he said he was leaving, i loved watching him fly down the sideline.
The kid is one of the fastest guys in the comp, and when he was on, it was a thing of beauty to watch.

The fact that he went to the Storm of all places has reserved a special place in hell for him though as far as im concerned.

And while i don't wish injury on him, i would not be sad if both his hammy's exploded next weekend while playing us.
You’re right. He’s a C@nt.
I also remember Motu Tony, Leon Bott etc….except they didn’t confess their love for the Broncos and turncoat 2 weeks later…

I'd say Capewell would still need to pass HIA tests to play
Watching him this year, he would’ve needed a HIA test every game this season. Not a shell of himself, but I get his leadership and experience value.

Another way to look at it: the club had a player who declared he would stay with them for life, and then 2 MONTHS later announced he'd signed with another club. They were the current wooden spooners, had just sacked two coaches in a row amidst scandal, sacked a lazy captain who was still stinking up the team, had a million dollar half who wasn't wiling to be given any responsibility, and were in a perpetual state flux clearing out the roster and even paying other clubs to take their players.

Coates and Dearden lived with Macca and his wife. Macca and Dearden were both discarded. Loyalty doesn't even enter the conversation.

Coates doesn't deserve any more vitriol than Herbie.

Meh, the result either way is the same, we came out of it the beneficiaries as Cobbo is better than Coates in almost every department.
