PRE-GAME PRE-GAME [Round 8, 2023] Broncos vs Eels

Going to be a tough one. Eels' biggest loss is only 8 points. Every other loss was within a try and they've had a bloody tough draw up until the last two weeks.

I want to see a high completion rate. We're equal third last in the comp (Eels not much better though). Giving the Eels cheap field position will be the death of us. Eels have scored the same amount of points as us so can pile on the points.

I don't want to see Moses mug with a smile at the end of the game, please.

Capewell:

“Oatesy was one of our best before he got injured so it will be handy to get him back. That’s not taking anything away from Jesse either, he was amazing while he was in there, it’s a good headache to have. Oatesy is one of those guys you can rely on. Everyone is buggered and he will put his hand up to take the tough carry, he gets us out of our own end well. I don’t enjoy tackling Oatesy at training, so I’m guessing the rest of the comp don’t either. I’m looking forward to having him back and hearing his voice from the sideline.”
He doesn't enjoy tackling much in games either, tbf.

It's crazy how lucky we have been with injuries this year.
You really have to jinx it?

happy hodgson is at 9 i think he has been shit this year, cut down moses time with the ball and keep kick pressure on 'guffo' should be enough to get it done.

We're the kind of team that will grind a team down and win it through the middle, hard to do that in the first 20 minutes of the game. We just need to contain Parramatta early and stay with them, that's about as good as we can expect I feel. They're notoriously fast starters.

Have PTSD from the Eels last few years. Their starting pack besides Hodgson all decent chance of playing SOO this year plus excellent 1,6,7. We can beat them for sure as long we don't have a slow start.

Just saying it because someone has every week. "This is a massive danger game for us, if we beat the eels I'll believe we have turned things around".
This isn't a danger game, Eels are a good side, given a rough early draw and lost those games by small margins we expect a fight here.

A danger game would be a team we are expected to win easily against then choke, like Raiders.

How would you suggest we do that?

You can look at it from a few different angles.

1. If you're to correlate with the personnel, we generally start getting our shit together around the time the second shift clocks in. Paix in for Walters. Taupau for Carrigan. Etc.

2. Although we're usually behind on the board around the time Billy and Pat are replaced, it's invariably our attack that's been failing to click.

3. The fact that we've ended up winning might suggest we're doing something right overall. Or it might suggest we're doing something better with the bench players. It's easy to scapegoat Billy, but what about Patty?

4. An alternate theory to us starting badly, might be we wear them out in the first thirty minutes, and then go in for the kill when they're buggered.

It's a bit of a glass half full paradox that only falls apart when we lose.
By fixing our discipline, primarily and completion secondly.

We have a lot of silly errors and silly penalties in our game.

Even when the commentators were pulling their puds over how great the Raiders were in the one game we have lost, it was 3 tries a piece, but we bombed tries and kept them in the game with our ridiculous error rate.

Our game aside from these errors is played at such a sustained tempo we just wear teams out. Many have noticed how much better we are at competing for 80 minutes so far this year. I’d suggest Kevvie and the team have done some remarkable fitness work in the off season.

Cut out our errors and complete and the Eels big pack won’t be able to go with us for 80 minutes. They’ll try and smashed us out of the game, because let’s face it, that has worked really well for them against us in recent years, but we can address that by completing and not turning over cheap ball.

Especially in Darwin.

Every team's middle name is Danger.

Just hope we don’t fall for dummies from their 1,6,7 and 9. They are all hogs.

Yep, losing the ones we should win is what will cost us. This one.. probably a chance to get a bit of separation on the ladder, I expect Parra to be there fighting for a top 4 spot at season's end.

I honestly can’t fathom submissive admittance here that
Eels are a great side,
they will be in top 4 come seasons end, they’re given a tough draw etc, etc.

To me, they’re just another arrogant grubby opponents whom we’re playing against this week & I expect us to win. No 2nd thoughts here really. It’s not that we have suddenly forgotten how to win or no fight in us. It’s just that we have to stay in the fight & throw everything we can to walk away with the win like we did in our R1 & R2. I’m sure the coaching staff and the players themselves picked up already on this.

Don’t sympathize those grubs. Bash them, barge through them, suffocate them & humiliate them.

We got this

I would love to be ahead by 2 points with 20 seconds to go, with the Eels hard on our line, and watch Mitchell Moses flick one of his no-look spirals 30 metres in to the grand stand, while Gutherson punches himself in the face to try to milk a penalty (and fails).
