Pre-Season

In news that will shock nobody, another Former Bronco "star" in trouble. Never even heard of the guy.

A former Brisbane Broncos junior and tennis hitting partner of Bernard Tomic has avoided jail after unleashing a “disgusting” attack on a man in a Surfers Paradise bar.

Lachlan Taylor Jukes, 31, pleaded guilty to one charge of assault occasioning bodily harm in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday. The 31-year-old’s defence barrister Timothy Fitzpatrick said there was a delay in the case coming before the court because his client moved to Victoria a few months after the assault.

He said Jukes was not aware of the warrant until he later returned to the Gold Coast. Mr Fitzpatrick said his client grew up on the Gold Coast, attended The Southport School and All Saints Anglican College.

He was quite an accomplished footballer – he was a junior member of the (Brisbane) Broncos,” he said.

The lawyer went even further blaming his offending on head knocks, no doubt received during his long and distinguished playing career.

The moonboot was just a bit of fucking around by all accounts.

Riki:

“It’s been quite full on training but we’ve been loving it. There’s been some big hits and a bit of banter, especially ‘Walshy’, he doesn’t shut up. He’s always at the back chirping away. He is good to have back. He brings some heat and flair to the team. He is very confident, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s cool he can be himself. It’s cool having him back, I’m pretty stoked about it.”
Walsh recently:
“I’m not complacent at all. Coming back to the club, it’s motivated me to get that fullback spot and Kevvie hasn’t given me any guarantees at all. I remember how close the club came to winning the 2015 grand final and it would be a dream of mine to win a comp for the Broncos. We have a lot of hard work to do in pre-season - we’re hungry to play finals this year.”

Corey Parker at it again:

“The reality for the Broncos is and whatever your opinion of Kev is or not - and there’s been plenty of talk around that - but priority number one for the Broncos has to be defence. Now we all know that they can score points and they’ve shown that, but that only stands up so many times throughout the season."
“You need to score points but the Broncos certainly lack an underbelly of resilience. They were much better at different stages last year, so much so that they were sitting fourth with six weeks to go, but they didn’t play finals. That highlights the massive deficiency in and around what they were doing."
“I firmly believe you get what you deserve and rugby league and while the Broncos were terrific at different stages, I saw signs probably eight or nine weeks out of where the Broncos were at and as it turned out, they didn’t make finals. They’ll use it as motivation and it’ll sting, but again it comes back to defence."
“When I watched the Broncos for the first time this year, I want to see a change. I want to see change in their movement, I want to see a change in their line. I want to see evidence that suggests that they are working really hard as opposed to just reading that they’re working really hard in the off-season in regards to the offence.”
“Selwyn is not the first person that has come out and said it, which is going to be highly frustrating for the coach because he is there at the moment. In saying that, in Kevvie’s defence, how many coaches has Selwyn Cobbo had top grade? One. It’s disrupting and it’s not what you want, but whether he’s the best coach or not isn’t as relevant as having the playing group on side."
“Coaching ability is obviously relevant, but being the head coach of the Brisbane Broncos is very different from any other team, without doubt. The Broncos and Kevvie Walters will certainly be under enormous amounts of pressure in the first six rounds to come up with plenty of change from what we saw last year."
“They’ve got the Panthers to start with in round one and then the Cowboys, so they’ll certainly know where they’re at after the first few rounds playing the team that won the competition and the team that finished third.”
“Kevin Walters, Anthony Griffin, Justin Holbrook, Adam O’Brien are under pressure. The new coach of the Warriors is fine, so yeah it’s probably just those guys. There’s more than one way to coach, right. There’s coaching to get the team to get better and there’s coaching for success right now. It’s interesting to see how that unfolds, how that plays out. But what people don’t have, particularly fans and board members, is they don’t have time, they want success straight away, which you just can’t get. So it will be interesting to see how those four, five individuals go in regard to the early stage of the season.”

Can't see too much wrong with what he has said. He is paid for an opinion, I like the fact he generally doesn't hold back.

What’s the TL;DR version, as I couldn’t bring myself to read it all.

Really bad neck injury to a Titan and game cancelled.

An ambulance spokesman said he had suffered quite a serious neck injury and was attended to on the field by paramedics, critical care and the high acuity unit.

He was taken to Princess Alexandra hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The spokesman said Princess Alexandra hospital was the specialist spinal cord injury hospital.

Witnesses around the ground said spectators and players were left shaken by the incident.

Gold Coast Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said they were supporting Pouniu, his family and teammates.

Mitchell said the situation was devastating for a player in the early stages of a young career.

“Joseph is a terrific young man and leader and is a big part of our Future Titans program,” he said.

“The club and the wider rugby league community will support Joseph and his family through this time.

“We will also make sure the rest of our Future Titans playing squad have the support they need.

Sounds potentially life changing, poor kid.
