POST GAME PSC - Broncos vs Cowboys

Well based on the trials and assuming Walsh is out round 1, I’d go:

1. Cobbo
2. Oates
3. Staggs
4. Farnworth
5. Mariner
6. Mam
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Haas
9. Paix
10. Flegler
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Carrigan

14. Mozer
15. Taupau
16. Jensen
17. Piakura

Looks like we' ve realized how to play the meta.

Step off the mark as much as possible on attack, got for quick play the ball while stepping forward.

If you give away a 6 again, just do the same shit and slow the tackle the next play anyway and keep their momentum bottled. Sometimes thats worth a penalty.

We just look much better slowing down and setting defense.

The defence on our line was much improved over last season. Saying that Mam got caught out once against the Titans and twice by the Cows where he seems to over read the play.

Paix was good, Walters tries hard but still looks a bit lost in attack. For the short time we saw Mozer he looked ok and gave some nice long accurate passes from the ground. I can see why they compare him with Cameron Smith when he stands and draws the first marker before passing.

Both Mariner and Arthars went well. Staggs looked better than last year but is still struggling in defence.

Great win considering the Cows were virtually at full strength and we were missing Reynolds.

On Cobbo he most definitely lacks the fitness to play fullback nor has the hands with too much dropped ball. Winger or centre is his best spot for the next few years.

Cut out the silly mistakes and we can go with the top 8 teams.

Big effort considering the amount of penalties and 6 agains the ref gifted the Cows. Good to see that we don't drop our heads when things go against us like in previous seasons.

Mozer looked good in his cameo, but not sure you can rely on him straight away to churn out 40mins in NRL... because Paix can't play 60.

Give Mozer time in Qcup and build him up to playing 60mins down there... once he's doing that and controlling the game that's when he'll be ready to make the step up.

Piakura & Mozer need to be playing big minutes in Cup, not riding the pine. Big no from me for both of them for R1.

Throw Walters/Smoothy on the bench to cover Paix and throw Jesse Arthars on the bench or something instead of Piakura. We shouldn't need 3 forwards on the bench with how many minutes Haas, Flegler, Carrigan, Taupau & Jensen will absorb. On the off chance that we suffer an injury to an edge forward, play Staggs in the 2nd row and put Arthars on.

EVERY game I've watched with dearden you seriously wouldn't know he was on the field for about 65 minutes at least. Good short ball, good defence for a half, but overall if he wasn't an ex bronco you would not hear one thing about him in the media, and deservedly so...prove me wrong...
Yeah he fell into the perfect situation for his development. Fair play to him, he had a great year last season, but yeah sometimes you kinda forget he's playing

It's a start, but we still don't take the legs enough in yardage sets on defence... or anywhere really.

Teams get such a massive roll on against us or ptbs from standing starts because we just refuse to tackle the legs and get them to the ground.

Yeah think I got carried away with excitement just because he got his shot. I agree, start him in QCup and get him reps defensively over 60+ mins. For the time being, I think it'll have to be Walters 55-60mins, then Paix the rest. I like Paix on attack, but last season I thought he was a liability defensively

We still lack any real attacking plays or structure. All our tries came from kicks which is really a throw of the dice.
I agree, although the short grubber from Ezra for Capewell is a much more precise set play than the usual kick and hope someone comes down with it.
I could definitely see it working at times this year.

Madden showed his value, he was very solid.

I think Mozer looked the most polished of the hookers, but I don’t think he’s physically quite ready for regular nrl just yet. Paix had some really nice darts, but I just don’t trust his passing at all. Billy was ok, ties himself in knots sometimes trying to be too creative when we just need to get the ball in the forwards hands.

Mam worries me a bit, he’s understandably still very raw, but he just doesn’t look very comfortable to me without Reynolds. I hope we don’t see a revolving door at 6 all year, because with Madden in the wings the temptation will be there for Kevvie.

Mariner showed he was hungry and was going looking for work, I don’t know where they fit him in, but he’s a class player.

Riki, the dumbarse, should be made to run laps after bombing that try!

We played our best last year when Billy and Paix split the minutes 40/40, so I don't think Billy should be getting 50mins... when Billy starts he takes the initial hits out of the game and allows Paix to come on against tired opposition.

Paix was coming into his own last year until he got injured in the last play of that fucked Canberra game (which Reynolds also got injured in as well).

I'm hoping Paix gets up to playing 50-60mins a game and it's something like Billy starting before Paix comes on at 20-30mins and plays out the game... but he needs to be doing it at a consistently high level before he can be trusted to do it

We were missing our 2 best most dominant spine players so structure for attacking raids when we had the ball was non existent.
Not sold on Cobbo as a fullback, he came alive the last 15 but he didn't get his hands on the ball near enough before that, let him play a Rapana type Wing role.
Payne played with abit more aggression and Patty was outstanding.
Marty will be a great buy.
Mozer looks carm and relaxed at 9, didn't look out of place at all considering he was playing with a thrown together spine to end the game.
Arthur's and Mariner are top level quality depth.
