POST GAME PSC - Broncos vs Cowboys

I assumed the fact he staggered off like 10 seconds after getting on that this was obvious.
I missed what happened and only saw him walking off... and then saw something about him being injured in the live thread. I didn't know it was HIA and thought it could've been his rehabbing shoulder

What do you guys think about picking Mariner in the 17 jersey?

I mean, I think the choices for that spot are: Piakura, Mariner, Palasia, Willison or two very unlikelies in Bayliss-Brow and Te Kura.

Last season due to reduced interchanges and HIA, many teams carried a back on the bench. I actually think it makes a lot of sense as he can cover any backline position clearly and if the fullback goes down, Cobbo can go there and if a second-rower goes down, Staggs can go there.
Piakura looks the most likely, but I want him playing consistent game time in Qcup.

If we're carrying Mariner on the bench that takes away his opportunity to develop in Qcup... we also need to have a plan to get him into the game when there aren't any injuries, HIA's, etc. otherwise we're playing with 16 every week.

He's probably big enough to play some minutes in the middle each week, but is that what's best for his development

For all the bagging of Walters I think he has identified the areas we have needed to improve in and worked on them in the off season. Whether that's his assistants or Reynolds it is still good coaching. Even looking at last year objectively, 13 wins ffs. I get it was a hugely dissapointing finish but and he didn't adjust but he still improved us. That's the 1st coach in years that has improved our team.

Is he a great coach? Hell no, that's obvious. But I think he's still what we need. We've tried everything else and it doesn't work. Unfortunately the broncos is a different beast compared to other clubs, appears you have to know it to thrive in it

Staggs to second-row.

Staggs to second-row.
Every game just to bring Mariner into the game?? And for how long?? like 15mins

I'm never a fan of rearranging the edge defence and it's not like we're all that settled and confident out there to start tinkering with it mid-game.

Yeah I totally get the issues with it but I just feel we have to get Mariner in there.

And then Kevvie will be called an lunatic and an imbecile for carrying an outside back on the bench, rearranging the defence to accommodate him, not having enough forwards on the bench, etc.

He's played a handful of qcup games and switched between wing and centre whilst down there... need to figure out where he's going to play and have him dominating the lower grade before bringing him into first grade.

No need to figure it out, he's a centre. He knows that, coaches know that, etc. And really, for some fans, Kevvie can't do anything right so who cares what they think.

Staggs def needs to pick up his game. Hes capable of brilliant footy, but his defensive work just hasn't gotten better.

I liked what I saw of Josh Rogers......big body....likes to kick, seems to have plenty of ball skills. Deceptively quick as well....
I'm not completely sold yet on Ezra tbh.....

Mozer took his chances.......last play was a bit loose, but overall a good first up run.
Walters/Paix for first grade....hope Mozer deserves to get a chance later in the season.

Patty.....😍

I don't like this talk of having an outside back....wingers(FFS) on the bench.
But then again......Oats can spend time in the forwards I guess
Maybe there is a space for Mariner/Arthurs...?

Selwyn is a fail at fullback for mine at this point.

Trying to think what annoyed me most about the game......🤔
ah yes, thats right
the ranga referee.....

Red-headed NRL referees should be illegal. They're too unstable.
They should be locked up in prison tbh.....

Maybe staggs at second row is worth exploring down the track if Mariner shows he’s up to consistent first grade
I've been thinking this all off season. Also, considered lock with carrigan going to prop. 2nd row he'd need to help out the half in defence but he'd be a little bit less exposed. But lock he could do 2 x 20-30 min stints in a Erin Clark type role at lock. Think it would work great but in saying that carrigan has earned the right to decide where he plays as well so it won't work unless carrigan is happy to shift..
I do however think staggs is in for a big year. He's just been getting the metres in his legs the last year I believe while waiting for surgery. This is the 1st year he has come in reasonably fresh.

Your not sold on Mam?

Did you watch the start of the game?

I think he was given too much 7 responsibilities in this game for my liking, he shouldn't be the main kicker because his instincts are to run on the last which is what you want for a 6 not a 7.
