POST GAME PSC - Broncos vs Cowboys

Not sure what your point is though. I don’t think anyone wants Mozer in the team in Round One. My take from last night is that he didn’t look out of place playing against men. Get him into Cup football and ease him in off the bench later in the season if the opportunity presents. He’ll be alright.

Even off the bench you might be on after two minutes. Being on the bench doesn't assure you 15 minutes at the end up 24-0 against the Tigers.

I have seen people naming him on the bench for round one.

His next challenge is to move up consistently to Cup and not need to go back to Colts for a break and start ISC games.

A smart coach would’ve trialed more than just Cobbo at fullback last night
You probably said "why is waters picking 3 hookers?!"...

I much prefer what Walters did. Got cobbos match fitness up, got him reps in the position in case he needs to be their round 1. If Walsh can't play and we trialled 2 or 3 people in that position for round 1 we'd be fucked for round 1.

I'm not on the farnworth to fullback bus anyway. Great running game but every sweep play or backline movement would stop with him. There's more to a fullback then kick returns. Look how much better we looked with Walsh vs niu. Yes Walsh is a far better player, but the team also looks better bcos he plays link man far better. Not saying cobbo is the answer there (I actually think sailor should be 1st back up he's more like for like with walsh) but he's got far more passing and linkman ability than farnworth.

EVERY game I've watched with dearden you seriously wouldn't know he was on the field for about 65 minutes at least. Good short ball, good defence for a half, but overall if he wasn't an ex bronco you would not hear one thing about him in the media, and deservedly so...prove me wrong...
He was rejected by the Broncos, left a wreck, got selected for an unwinnable Origin match due to his Cowboys form amidst universal ridicule from Broncos fans, and is now genuinely rated as an Origin contender. I don't think we can take credit for all of that, just breaking and ridiculing him.

No he needs to learn to play 80 in cup. Sick of producing blokes who aren’t capable of playing 80 in that position. 60 in cup is about 40 in NRL. 80 every week in cup will have him conditioned and prepared to shoulder most of if not all that role once he has become accustomed to first grade.
Are you talking about Billy or Paix?

Maybe I’m not reading this right, but I can’t think of many (if any) blokes playing the full 80 at 9 in the NRL, or shouldering all the responsibility in the role as you say.

Smith used to, but he had some pretty handy foils around him that took the heat off him, both in attack and possibly even more importantly, defence. The game has also changed a fair bit, even since he retired.

Look at someone like Cook. For a long time considered the second best 9 in the comp, can play 80. Doesn’t though as he becomes less and less effective, in both attack and defence. Similarly, I guess we are about to find out what Melbourne’s plans are for Grant now that BSmith is gone, but it’s very hard to see him punching out 80 every week.

I just don’t think you can reasonably expect your 9 to play good football for 80mins in todays faster, faster, faster game, no matter the grade. They either play well for 40-60, or they just tackle themselves to a standstill for 80.

I think people are ignorant to the fact that Mozer has never even started an ISC game, the most he's played is just 49 minutes off the bench.

are you new around here?

People are constantly calling for the next big thing to be rushed straight into the top grade ... and when it happens, and the player isn't instantly a superstar, they complain that the coaching staff did exactly what they wanted.

people want us to be where the Storm have been for the past decade, they just want us to skip a step or two, that the Storm used to get there.

I think with hooker it's good to know they can. Grant played 80 minutes against the Raiders in the finals and 80 minutes during the WC.

If you know your hooker can play 80 minutes you can pick your best bench and not have to pick a hooker for 25 minutes.

I think it frees you up a bit.

a good amount of people have complained about Kevvie trialing too many people in contentious positions over the last two pre-seasons (5/8 last year, and hooker this year).

fullback is not even a contentious position.

Walsh is our first choice by a long way; he trialled Cobbo last night (getting some reps into his legs in case he has to play there in round 1) and Sailor has also played 2 trials (mostly at the back).

so Kevvie has trialled 3 players at least at fullback during this pre-season

Shoot me stupid but I thought Walters was the best of our 9s , followed by Mozer (solid first game) and then Paix 3rd unfortunately.
Staggs worst of our backs. Overall good team performance. Happy with that trial.

A week here, a week there? Sure.

Every week for an entire season though?

You watch more football than me, surely you don’t think that’s possible in the modern game.
