JARED Hoare had doubts whether he'd ever return.
Hoare tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while representing Rockhampton at the annual 42nd Battalion carnival in Bundaberg in May last year.
Ten months later, the hard-working Rockhampton Brothers front rower makes his return to rugby league for his beloved Rockhampton Brothers in time for their round one clash tomorrow.
After an extensive rehabilitation program, Hoare admits there will be a few nerves when he takes to the field tomorrow afternoon for the first time since May last year, but is confident he's ready to hit his straps.
“I'm pretty confident. I wouldn't be risking it if I didn't think that I was ready to go,” he said.
“It's my first game back, so I just want to get straight in the action and get involved.”
The 22-year-old Central Comets squad member looks back on the entire process as one of the most difficult in his sporting career, admitting at one stage he wasn't sure whether he'd ever play rugby league again.
“Early on, when I did it and I was in a fair bit of pain, I wasn't able to do much and I was thinking there was a long way coming back to play,” he said.
“I wasn't sure whether I'd do it. I'll admit it was pretty tough.
“The first six months were a bit of a struggle because I was in a fair bit of pain, but it's been great reaching milestones along the way.”
Hoare will be injected into the match mid-way through the first half by rookie A grade coach Scott Bodley in the opening round of the Rockhampton Senior Rugby League competition when the Brethren take on Fitzroy Sharks at Victoria Park tomorrow.
After a gruelling pre-season with the Comets, which has seen Hoare progress through the various stages of his recovery, the representative front rower admits it'll take a while before he returns to his best, but is hoping to look back on 2011 as the year in which he breaks through to the Queensland Cup ranks.
“Queensland Cup is the big one I'm aiming for this year, but before that I'm keen to get back and play some good footy,” Hoare said.
