Queensland 2014 Line-Ups

Welcome KohenCoops!

I reckon you're right about website not being updated, although I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of this...

The answer to your second question is undoubtedly yes. The comparison is very apt too!

1. Billy Slater
2. Darius Boyd
3. Greg Inglis
4. Justin Hodges
5. Anthony Milford
6. Jonathan Thurston
7. Daly Cherry-Evans
8. Matt Scott
9. Cameron Smith
10. Nate Myles
11. Matt Gillett
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker

14. Josh Papalii
15. Josh McGuire
16. Chris McQueen
17. Ben T'eo

As of round 3 this is definitely my team, depending on the fitness of Hodges, replace him with Brent Tate if he's not back by game 1. Sorry to Cronk, DCE has surpassed him and I can't find him being that useful off the bench. We also have to find a spot for Milford, he's a game winner.

IMO DCE hasn't been exceptional this year. Cronk still ahead for mine. Things may change before Origin though.

Interesting team Unbreakable.

I'm not a fan of playing Milford on the wing. It reminds me of the Queensland selection policy from 2002 - 2004 where we'd try and play Schifcofske, O'Davis & Slater wide because we were short on quality wingers. I'd much sooner see a player like Tate, Lee or dare I say it (and forever put the mocker on him...) Vidot there before Anthony. He is a great talent though, and if we suffer something of an injury crisis at the back or in the halves, I believe he'd do a fair job in either role.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Cronk just yet. At worst, this maybe the series he gets demoted to the bench.

Battle of the edge forwards will be interesting. The problem I have with Gillett is that he isn't really a good defender - he can be all arms at times and you can't trust him to protect JT. He's better suited to being a runner. I'm sure McQueen will get the nod due to incumbency and one of those edge forwards will drop off for either DCE/Cronk. Will probably come down to Te'o/Gillett pending on injuries - Papalii offers some versatility.

Unconvinced on McGuire. Still needs to prove himself a bit more and on form would be behind Lawrence & even Lillyman.

That's apart of what has made Queensland so succesful though - picking players that compliment the team rather than picking players due to their reputation.

I don't think he compliments the team at all though. His defence is fine, but he doesn't offer anything in attack, and so the defence can easily muscle up on Inglis. Having someone who can hit holes could create so many opportunities for Thurston.

I wouldn't demote Cooper Cronk below bench utility, which he is ideal for as he showed prior do Locky's retirement.

When fully fit and playing at their best, this would be my squad:

1- Slater
2- Vidot
3- Inglis
4- Hodges
5- Milford
6- Thurston
7- DCE
8- Matt Scott
9- Cam Smith
10- Hannant
11- Gillett
12- Thaiday
13- Parker

14- Cronk
15- Papalii
16- Te'o
17- Myles

18- Lillyman, Kennedy, McGuire, Lawrence, McQueen, [insert in form Qld fwd]...

The problem is there really aren't that many other options available.

There's Gillett but as it's been pointed out, the role is to protect JT and Gillett's defence is a major concern on the fringes.

Perhaps it may present an issue for GI, but I don't think it was last series - I believe GI's poor positioning (which was also an issue for the Kangaroos) was his concern.

I don't think it's more of a short term issue, a bit of a case of right place right time for McQueen but to give credit where it's due (I was his biggest critic heading into last year's series) he did a job and was an improvement on what we had.

I'm not really one to watch games over and over but wasn't McQueen used in the Ash Harrison rule? Dropping good ball for Inglis and shit.

edit: ignore that, McQueen was useless if I remember right.

So really the concern is over Hodges replacement?

Tate will surely come in off the wing, so who's the next in line.

Milford... would get monstered out there under the high ball. Vidot, Gagai, Edrick Lee... maybes.

What about something more left field (keeping with the Mal Meninga pick and stick), Chris McQueen in the 5?

They will probably go with Chambers centre and Tate wing. Which is a bit of a risk considering that Jennings, Cordner etc will be running at him all game.

Selecting only two props is a bigger risk this year as well. With the speed of the game now Scott and Myles probably won't be able to last as many minutes. Hopefully somebody like Lawrence finds there way onto the bench.

As if Lee was ever going to get picked. Seriously.

1. Slater
2. Boyd (if fit, otherwise Vidot)
3. Inglis
4. Chambers
5. Tate (proved he can handle it there and is great in helping us get out of our half after kick returns)
6. Thurston
7. Cronk
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Shillington
11. McQueen
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Myles
15. T'eo
16. DCE
17. Cooper

Assuming Papalii is injured

I would love to see DCE start but we all know it wont happen. Chambers gets a start because the combination with slater, smith and cronk could be instrumental in another series win. Gillett is crap, should never play origin. Cooper is tough as they come and runs perfect lines off thurston, makes sense to bring him in. I would LOVE to get milford in there somewhere but if we are going to have cronk and DCE, which we 100% will, he wont get a spot.

That bold line is lolworthy when McQueen is in your starting line-up...
