Heat have also signed Tom Banton, 20 year old batsman from England, broke out in the domestic scene last year and made the England T20 team.

Not entirely sure we need more batsmen however.. We've now got 4 international signings, two batsmen & two bowlers. We can only play two of them at a time though, really not sure what the plan is here..

Banton will play the first eight games of the Heat season, before Proteas legend de Villiers joins the Heat for their final six regular season games and any subsequent finals, with Afghanistan spin pair Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Zahir Khan rounding out Brisbane's international recruits for the summer.

Banton, who is also a wicket-keeper, admitted it had been a whirlwind few months culminating in his first overseas T20 contract with the Heat.

Heat coach Darren Lehmann said Banton's recruitment had been a high priority.

"He was the talk of English cricket during their season," Lehmann said. "Outside the World Cup and the Ashes, Tom was the player that a lot of people were really excited to be watching, and with good reason.

"He's a lovely striker of the ball and has that wide and varied range of shots you need to make the most of the early overs in the power play or to accelerate the scoring through the middle and back half of an innings.

"The prospect of pairing him alongside some of our young batsmen like Max Bryant, his mate Matt Renshaw and Sam Heazlett is pretty enticing, that's for sure.

"But we know Tom will also benefit from playing and being around the likes of Chris Lynn, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting and Marnus Labuschagne as he takes steps to expand his skills and experience in Australian conditions.

"He's joining us for the first half of the tournament but we're hopeful he will have some time to catch-up with AB de Villiers at some point as that would be a great opportunity as part of his experience with the Heat."

Lehmann said the club was close to finalising its 18-man roster with two spots to fill.

Just watched an interview with Boof, he confirmed Banton will be opening with Bryant for us while he's here, once he leaves, Cutting & Bryant will open with AB batting in the middle order.

I watched Banton play in the Under 19 World Cup last year in New Zealand. He got 100 against the Kiwis. Strong forward but especially back- loves to pull square.

He played club cricket in Perth last year too.

Honestly can't see how Heazlett can be picked, he's in terrible form. You can't reward a guy coming off a average 25 season. Career average now is 31.

When do we accept he's a OD batsman only? (Watch him score 150 now today.)

Batting was the biggest issue for the Bulls last season, one 100 in the season isn't good enough. 23 50's they need to convert and fix that.

39 runs in his two clubs games, while guys have 300 runs. I would say people are banging down the door with 300's for the seconds.

Hemphrey is coming off a 150 last week too which at least is some form into the season.

Khawaja looked pretty unhappy at that call, but just after a drinks break two Test bats shouldn't be missing full straight ones anyway.

Bulls struggling to get Abbot and Conway, took a long time for Conway to even get a run scored against him.

Smith bowled leggies and off spin depending on who was batting, pretty interesting to watch.

But seriously, why are we so bad at the longer format? The amount of experience and skill in that batting line-up should net us an average first innings total of about 450.
