Queensland Vs. New South Wales - Match Thread

He is without doubt the second best fullback I have ever seen behind Lockyer now if he wasn't already.

Regardless of whether or not he is better than locky, that was easily the best fullback display in an origin ive ever seen

one of the highlights for me was the scrum after inglis and scotts fight, inglis moved from his position to mark scott from the scrum and just had his eyes set on him. scott gets the ball and runs away from inglis, but is so scared he drops the ball anyway lol

I would rate it as equally as good as Lockyer's performance in Game 1, 2001. Outstanding.

Talking about great performances, Shillington's last night. Unbelievable. He had great support from our other forwards (particularly Thaiday) but I thought he was head and shoulders above the rest.

Lockyer is just a freak. That pass to Folau is one for the ages. And there is no way known that the pass to Slater was forward. It was an awesome pass.

Not one bad player for us last night.

NSW - honestly, get new selectors. Beau Scott is a backrower, in Origin you have to pick specialist centres. It is the hardest position on the field in which to defend.

I know Browny posted some player ratings, but the ones from fox sports are too funny. Jarryd Hayne - 4.5!!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

JARRYD HAYNE - He was completely outclassed by opposite number Billy Slater in a much-hyped battle of the fullbacks. Rating: 4.5.
JOEL MONAGHAN - Timana Tahu's replacement had an indifferent game and made some errors, although he did cop some poor passes. Rating: 4.
MATT COOPER - He was terrorised and outleaped by Israel Folau, who scored two tries on his side. Also picked up a hamstring injury. Rating: 3.
BEAU SCOTT - The Dragons centre was brought into the side to contain Greg Inglis but failed miserably in his NSW debut. Foolishly took on Inglis in a minor scuffle, with Queensland winning the penalty. Rating: 2.
BRETT MORRIS - His defence was pleasing, especially in the 25th minute when he saved a certain try with good cover defence on Billy Slater. The pick of the Blues players. Rating: 6.
TRENT BARRETT - Didn't really have a bad game but never threatened the Maroons. Could be his last Origin. Rating: 5.
MITCHELL PEARCE - Never got a chance to shine behind a beaten pack. Kicking game could've been better. Rating: 6.
MICHAEL WEYMAN - Failed to make an impact but he certainly wasn't alone among the Blues forwards. Rating: 3.
MICHAEL ENNIS - Ineffective but again he was playing in a pack smashed by the Maroons. Rating: 2.5.
BRETT WHITE - Had few touches but he did score the Blues' only try. Rating: 3.
NATHAN HINDMARSH - Put in his usual industrious performance but, like Barrett, he may never play for NSW again. Rating: 6.
BEN CREAGH - A gain of 24m says it all. Disppointing. Rating: 3.5.
PAUL GALLEN - Hardly sighted and failed to deliver on his instructions to smash the Queenslanders. Was cited for a high shot on Nate Myles which didn't look good. Rating: 2.
KURT GIDLEY - Was always going to be under pressure as the first captain in Origin history to start from the bench. He was solid but made some uncharacteristic errors. Rating: 4.5.
TRENT WATERHOUSE - Worked hard in defence from the bench but did nothing special. Rating: 4.
TOM LEAROYD-LAHRS - Made 28 tackles and a gain of 70m. Solid effort off the bench. Rating: 5.
LUKE O'DONNELL - He's sure to be suspended for a spear tackle on Darius Boyd. Took the aggression too far. Rating: 4.

This is awesome, they picked nuffies and got exactly what they deserved..

Too many highlights to go through:

Lockyer - a magician. I'll put big money on him suiting up for the maroons again next season. That pass to put Folau over in the south eastern corner was mesmerising.

Shillington - equally deserving for man of the match honours. He was the best forward on the ground by far and totally dominated NSW's forward pack.

Slater - he's got a mortgage on the fullback position as long as he stays fit. As usual his defensive efforts won't attract the same admiration as his attacking game.

O'Donnell is an absolute grub and should be looking at 10+ weeks on the sideline. That tackle happened right in front of us - the ugliest tackle I think I've seen. Even The Daily Telegraph writes today that he should have been sent off.

It's easilly the most dangerous since McKracken was injured at Olympic park almost a decade ago. Not only did he lift him well past a dangerous position, but he drove him head first into the ground. Did I hear on the news this morning he is being offered 4 weeks? Given he managed to stay on the field he should he punished more substantially at the judiciary.

Queensland will put the cleaners through NSW in game 3. The Blues were diabolical last night and will be lucky to get 50,000 through the gates.

O'Donnell is looking at 3 weeks if he pleads guilty I believe. Absolute joke.

Yep. Grade TWO Dangerous Throw. TWO.

On a scale of 1-5!

If that's a grade 2, I would fucking hate to see a 5...you'd literally have to dig Boyd's head out of the turf...

If it's 3 weeks can he still play Origin 3?

Also it's interesting how Lockyer is still selected at 5/8th and Thurston at halfback, when really they play the opposition position on the field.

They swap and change a fair bit. Quite a few times last night Thurston was at first receiver and passed to Lockyer...the Folau try was a noticeable example.

In the modern game halfback isn't necessarily first receiver anymore.

I really really wants a whitewash this year.....

+1!

Before anyone starts talking about 6 series in a row, let's get the first maroonwash of the streak! Total, and utter humiliation and annihilation for NSW!!!!!!

Add to that how deliberate it was, and if u watch the replay, as soon as he drive boyd into the ground, he knows their will be a biff and jumps on boyd and starts hitting. Cheap bastard

Origin massacre, by the clock June 16, 2010 - 10:13PM

T-15 minutes The various sides are announced to the crowd. Hindmarsh starts for the Blues, Gallen greeted like Geoff Carr at a Folau family Christmas and as per program, Kurt Gidley is boldy attempting to skipper the side in a tracksuit. For Queensland, Lockyer and Thaiday get cheered senseless. Matt Scott? Muffled applause. Same for Nev Costigan. Such is life for unsung heroes.

T-10 minutes Roll on the pre-game entertainment and blow me down it's Barnsey. This is the best pre-match offering we’ve had for about 10 years. Are the Hoodoo Gurus not touring? He pumps out No Second Prize and Working Class Man, before covering himself in irony by downing a reasonable looking glass of champers on the field.

T-7 minutes Andrew Ettingshausen is indulging in a bit of corporate entertainment just in front of the press tribunes. Fishing for a living, prime seats at the footy; life after footy really has sucked for ET.

T-2 minutes Gidley leads out the Blues - then goes back and sits on the bench! Oh stop it. Stop it! Lockyer leads out his Maroons to a fair old shout from the punters – the last bench he sat on was in the Botanic Gardens.

T-1 minute A touching minute of silence for the two diggers killed in action in Afghanistan is puncuated by the inane bogan roar of some idiot yelling out "Queenslander". The yobbos couldn’t keep quiet more than 30 seconds. How hard is it to be quiet for one solitary minute?

2nd minute Queensland get the first penalty. NSW has been doing it all night.

3rd minute Inglis carries about 15 Blues over as he scores the first try. That's an early fail for Beau Scott, the GI Killer. NSW huddle together to thank the contribution of Andrew Johns, the inspiration behind that punishing run.

7th minute Folau working well roaming the back pocket and doing some nice on-ball work through the corridor.

9th minute Inglis and Scott have a few words, over what I can't possibly imagine. How about the spite in this game… tick, tick, tick…

12th minute Now Folau is in! Barrels over in the opposite corner. That one’s for you, Geoff Carr. NSW really has planned this to perfection. Thurston curls it in to make it 10-0.

15th minute Inglis belts Scott but the big Dragon holds his own. They really could do with some professional mediation, or some intervention from Mick Gatto.

20th minute Cam Smith a metre wide on the 40-20 attempt. If he had of nailed that it could have been curtains for NSW, who are battling. Blues get their best chance thus far and really need an inspirational touch from the skipper to…. oh that’s right.

21st minute Smith struggling with the incredibly gentle breeze here and puts another one out on the full. Brett White gives him a friendly, team-matey pat on the head. Smith doesn’t laugh.

23rd minute Folau takes another mark in the back pocket. Another inside 50 for the Blues comes to nothing. Meanwhile, a NSW forward on report for a swinging arm on Nate Myles, who is battling to stay conscious tonight. Amazingly, Paul Gallen is the culprit.

26th minute Awful spear tackle on Boyd by Luke O’Donnell and it’s on like Donkey Kong. That should be a flat-out send-off. Everyone going ballistic. Punches flying. Big Dell sitting next to me is about to leap onto the park. Given the lead-up week, this was always going to happen. O’Donnell fires off one last jab on Dave Taylor, possibly a little headbutt (that’s fine these days) and gets put on report. All they need now is an Octagon and Kimbo Slice.

30th minute Things settle down, sort of, but Folau is taken out by Cooper gearing up for a massive speccie in the forward pocket. Queensland penalty – Slater over off an inside ball from Lockyer but called forward, although that’s fairly dubious.

34th minute Folau takes another mark in the back pocket. Andrew Demetriou actually passes out from excessive smiling. GWS are starting to feel like they’ve got a bargain at six million bucks.

35th minute It’s Boyd rage. Darius, now right way up, scores under the sticks and you had a feeling that was coming if the Maroons kept their cool and kept executing. Lovely ball from GI. Gidley’s on, by the way, although not sure when he snuck out there.

40th minute It’s 16-0 to Queensland at halftime. That’s about the right scoreline and by the end of that, they all looked too knackered to punch holes in each other’s face. Time to reset for round two.

44th minute That didn’t take long. Willie Tonga cleans up the crumbs and scores next to the posts for Queensland. It’s 22-0. I’m very happy to declare this right now. I’m thinking Queensland at 13-plus was the best bet of 2010.

48th minute Darren Lockyer, take a bow. That is an absolutely majestic pass. Dummies, waits, goes inside-out, cuts out Tonga and finds Folau for his second. Points are raining – 28-0 with half an hour to go. Death of Origin? I’ve always wanted to write that.

52nd minute Folau drops one finally, forcing GWS to knock 100 grand off his contract. Slater cleans up though. He’s destroyed Hayne tonight, the little fullback. It seems like almost every Queenslander has some sort of score to settle at the moment.

58th minute It’s on once again. Inglis and Scott exchanging pleasantries for the umpteenth occasion. Queensland get the penalty, although that one could have gone either way. Inglis walking on water by now.

61st minute Scott drops it in his own 20m zone. He really is having a fairly crap Origin debut. It’s a bit of a poisoned chalice, the old “go out and stop Inglis” assignment.

62nd minute The “go out and stop Cooper Cronk” gig isn’t that easy either apparently. The Brissie product barrels over for a try. St Laurence’s old boys everywhere bust out the school song. Make it 34-0.

65th minute Matt Scott is the new Martin Bella. Also, even Folau looks like he wants to punch someone. Get one in Izzy, it’s a 12-week ban in AFL.

67th minute Cooper gets run down by Folau, pushed into touch and does a hammie. That’s pretty well the evening for NSW right there in one horrific package.

71st minute A few things to keep the interest. Can NSW get on the board? Is there more knuckle on the horizon? Will Bellamy resign post-match?

75th minute Bretty Morris nearly saves the pants lap but Gidley is in an offside position and it’s a no try. Still, at least the skipper is getting involved.

78th minute Brett White, the vanquisher of Steve Price, waddles over for NSW. That makes it 34-6 with less than two minutes on the clock. It’s a fairly big ask to come back from here but I hear Hayne can play a bit.

80th minute That’s five in a row. Queensland were furious and sublime all at once. NSW, well, I have no idea where they go from here.
