AN EXTREME case of referee abuse rocked the Rockhampton Junior Rugby League when whistleblower Adam Hudson was hit in the head by a tennis ball-sized rock that fractured his skull.

The 23-year-old was hospitalised after the ugly incident that took place at the Rockhampton Tigers' home games against Gracemere at Elizabeth Park on Sunday.

And in the aftermath, the Rockhampton Rugby League Referees' Association yesterday boycotted junior league games until the offender is caught and punished, leaving more than 900 juniors with no games this weekend.

Hudson was hit by the flying object when walking off the field and the RJRL is calling for anyone involved to come forward.

An angry RRLRA president Housh Fallah yesterday described the perpetrator as a “filthy grub†who should be kicked out of the game for life.

“It is hard enough recruiting and retaining referees without incidents like this,†Mr Fallah said.

“There are also many in the junior league who put a lot of time and effort so that these young kids can play footy, yet the actions of this filthy grub has the potential to undo all of that.â€

Mr Fallah said the referees had united as one since the attack and would not return to the field until the matter was fully investigated.

How disgusting that this kind of thing happens? I applaud their stance on it too, effectively calling off the round until the grub is dobbed in or turns himself in, and the association actually puts some protection in place.

Agree Coxy, this is unspeakably disgusting the actions of this grub. I also applaud the referees in not continuing until he is found and action taken. Hope others dob him in - other people would have seen who did it and unless they do dob him in, I think they are almost as bad by essentially condoning it.

So someone's covering for whoever actually did it.

Cops need to threaten that they all risk jail time if the culprit is identified without any of them coming forward.

Seriously people need to get a clue, this shit is not on... I completely support the life bans, fines and jail time for these type of offences... regardless of how much you think a referee has made the wrong decision this behaviour cannot be tolerated, i think the guy that tackled the ref in the broncos v tigers game deserved the life ban as well.

Its total crap, these guys are doing it out of their own time, they are human ffs they are going to make mistakes! And to make matters worse it was a junior game, so what kind of messages does this send to kids, aged 5-12?

Being a local not real suprised about the two clubs involved, they are renowned for being grubby.

OMG That is P.A.T.H.E.T.I.C..... Seriously some people are deadset fucking morons!
This is one of the reasons I defend NRL refs so much of the time and hate it when people complain saying they should be sacked or w/e. These refs have to go through so much unjustified bullshit for such average pay at elite level let alone any pay for most levels of the game and it's such a hard job not many would want to do (I certainly wouldn't) yet even the ones who make it to the elite level instead of it being praised for their commitment and quality they get bagged out by the media and fans for a whole week on front page sports news about any mistakes (or even correct call) they make. Even worse facebook hate groups about refs, it's a game and people go on about it like they're evil people who make wrong calls on purpose.

Hope they stay firm and boycott every game for at least a month or untill this moron is found and locked up, let them teach these spectators (and players for that matter) a lesson when they're friends/children don't have any games to play. Maybe just maybe they'll appreciate what these refs do [icon_wink
