Slater really is the best fullback tho. Hunt is about 23% as good as him

Where's Alec? Hunt over Slater BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No seriously BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! If we didn't already know how good Slater is he showed his is the game's best fullback tonight, he was everywhere setting play up finishing play off, he sniffs out chances better than any fullback I have seen (bar maybe just Lockyer).

Our pack was great, props as always and tonight the back row was excellent Leffranchi, Stewart, Gallen and Tupou were all first class tonight and our entire pack set a great platform. God Ricky Stuart teams can defend, that period of Pommy dominance in the first half where they only let in 1 try which they almost saved was absolute quality and they didn't let up in defense for 80 minutes. This is the best Australian side I have seen in a long time in terms of how they play as a unit.

Hunt has never destroyed a side like England let alone a club side at NRL level to the extent Slater did tonight and has done all year. He has the best instincts of anyone currently playing the game, speed to burn, can put teammates away, defuses bombs, doesn't make mistakes anymore. I do not understand what this guy has to do to win some blind Broncos fans over, he is the best fullback in the game without a shadow of doubt.
 
Slater was awesome, Hunt was just as awesome v NZ in the Anzac test in 07. Slater was awesome on the back of the most awesome props in the known universe.

How good is Petero's form right now, seriously.

But how much better would we have been if we'd had Bailey, Ryles or Thaiday on the bench instead of Perry (who had a good game but is still nowhere at the level of those other guys).

Lockyer is in career best form, and the mouth waters for him to put the Broncos jersey on again for sure! How good will it be to watch him creating space for Hodges & Folau out wide with Hunt backing up down the middle, oh man!!!!!

Hunt is a different style to Slater, and they are on par. If Hunt was as fast as Slater he would be better imho, but he's not and Slater is awesome. That step for his 3rd try was sensational!

He made 2 mistakes last night, and was the worst offender for the storm this year by FAR. He also sends more passes over the sideline (barring last night) than any player I've seen.

Yes he is a great player and a freakish athlete, and the best fullback in the game at the moment. But for Rabs to even compare him with some of the truly great fullbacks of the past is utterly embarrassing, let alone claim he is better than them.
 
Trust the channel 9 commentary team to so quickly forget how amazingly dominant Lockyer was at fullback. Slater is brilliant but he's not that brilliant.
And in terms of Hunt vs Slater, IMO you would have Hunt in your team for safety, Slater in your team for attacking flair.
 
All Slater has is pace.... He is a great player but most of his arsey tries come from running away from people he'd be a great criminal.
 
"All he has is pace" lol. Thats like saying "All mohammad ali had was a great punch" lol. Speed is an integral part of a fullbacks game, so it cannot be discounted.

I was going to respond to that, but the thread was locked. [icon_razz1

Remember a bloke called Bowen? He was doing EVERYTHING in 2007 that Slater has been doing this year. What happened to him now? He doesn't seem as great anymore. Hunt has been considered in the top 2 fullbacks in the comp for the last 3 or so years now by many (06: Hunt v. Mini, 07: Hunt v Bowen, 08: Hunt v Slater), and Slater has really only had 1 brilliant year. If he continues playing like that for the next 2 years, then I'll admit that he's better (unless Hunt outplays him). But I still think his form will go down, just like Bowen's, and Hunt will be fighting yet another fullback for the number one spot.

Probably because he spent the majority of the season on the sideline.

That was sweet, but nothing on par with last night.

Either way, GI was my MoM, not Slater.

Bowen has done fack all at rep level because he rarely gets selected cause of his height unfortunately
