Herbie should remain at center or developed as a full back. We saw an example today what Herbie can do with clear ball himself and not the usual pressure man on man little space ball in which he has been battling away himself trying to create. Robbed of another try assist when he displayed a variety of multi skills in his left/right carries burst of agilty and speed then the clever kick through for Tessie would have been a great try. Herbie is that tough northern English breed who has so much to offer. The ones who understand potential and the correct development of a player will support this. A lethal striker of the ball too.We have so many talented young players there are going to be ups and downs. Penitence is the virtue .Lets be more positive and get behind them more

I’m a fan of Gamble. He’s the perfect back up half.

Just think it’s a bad pairing. Will he even be as effective on the left?
No idea. Tbh I like Gamble more for the personality he brings, and his enthusiasm, than his half play. I’m probably the last Albert Kelly fan left, but he’s a proper five eighth. A rare commodity at the Broncos and a joy to behold. Is having a genuine, rather than makeshift, 5/8th too much to ask?

****, even Lockyer was a makeshift 5/8th. We’ve had so many who were learning on the job.

Will the trials next year count for suspensions? If so, wouldn't that mean everyone is available round 1 if there are 3 trials?

Given Willison won't be available, I reckon we might see:

1. Niu
2. Farnworth
3. Staggs
4. Cobbo
5. Oates
6. Gamble
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Haas
9. Paix
10. Flegler
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

14. Walters
15. Carrigan
16. Bullemor
17. Robati

I'm a fan of Albert and both him and Gamble bring something different to the table. All depends on how the team is looking at playing next year and who the fullback is will also be a factor in who the better 5/8 would be. Id say Reynolds would also have a little bit of say in who he'd prefer/work better with.
Then you've got Staggs, Walters and Mam who could be thrown in there.
I think Brenko Lee is a depth signing but if he gets a centre spot would you have Cobbo sitting on the wing and Oates or Herbie miss out or does Cobbo or Herbie push Nui out of the fullback spot..
Going to be a off season with plenty of competition for spots

Let's not forget Kevin Walters had a shorter preseason last year with a vastly different looking squad and plenty of distractions to contend with. A more settled, full preseason with a squad he has more knowledge about and control over, coming off the back of a positive finish to this season, should make a huge difference to how we start next season. It should particularly help the younger guys who have shown promise in the second half of the season (Niu, Cobbo etc).

Cobbo could legit be anything.
Give him a full preseason and guarantee his spot in the 17, have him learning from blokes like Reynolds & Capewell and he could well be the player to watch in 2022. He’s humble and doesnt seem to have a big head - refreshing to have someone like that in our squad..
Tesi also with a full pre-season should see a fair bit of improvement.
On the last 4wks alone, I am ok with out 1, 6 & 7 heading into 2022. It’s 9 that I am worried about however I don’t think anything will change in that space for 2022. I think we should have kept Levi and I really don’t want Hodgson.
I think our 2 best options would be chasing B.Smith or Koroisau for 2023.
Mozer is there but I doubt he will be ready for a couple of years yet.

I think we have a good team and I’m happy with our options at 9, I just think Paix might be a hidden gem, very much on board with him getting a shot. Use Turpin to start the season and phase Paix through to take over by mid-season.

As for 1, Niu, Cobbs and Herbs can fight that out. Niu is still half a player but attack wise, while still not perfect, is really, really good. If he can fix his defensive awareness and effort issues over the pre-season, we may well have a gun fullback on our hands. If not, Cobbs could be anything.

Out there thought:
Centres: Staggs/Cobbo/Herbie
Fullback: Cobbo/Niu
Halves: Rey/Kel/gamble
Hooker: Paix
Props: Haas/Fleg

Unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but I think Gamble's niggle and passing game would be a better fit at hooker. He'd be in my run on side every week, but lacks a little of the finesse I'd like to see at five-eighth.

One problem i see with Gamble at 9 would be his height, service may not be as quick having to bend that extra little bit

I don't think it is that bad an idea but I personally think that Gamble did enough to have first shot at the 6 jersey. Whatever spot he is in, unless there are injuries he is most likely keeping the seat warm until Mam is ready anyway.

Maybe. He only has an inch on Cameron Smith. (6ft 2 vs 6ft 1)
