I like they way we are handling our train and trial contracts lately. I don’t think I remember us ever using them so strategically.

Is there a cap on how many you can have?

No it's just the feeder clubs, Norths, Wynnum and Souths will just send along four players each. ISC clubs use it to attract players to their club.

It is how Storm uncover Hynes and those players. Hynes just signed with the Falcons with a Storm pre-season chucked in.

It doesn't cost you any money, Broncos do it every year with the feeder clubs. You just have to be prepared to train full time for six weeks and get time off work to try and win your contract.

Hopefully your feeder club has picked someone that might be a missed gem you can reward with a contract- you normally get the first trial game too.

Smith has been good for McDonald, they have a good relationship from the Roosters and McDonald lives with him now while he's sorting out his career.

Personally I like this move, he can be a really good player for us. Strong carries, but more of a depth signing i feel, comes cheap as well. Dave and Ikin making smart and wise moves
I saw him in a trial for the sharks at the start of the year (or maybe it was last year 🤔🤔) and he was absolutely horrendous.

Him moving to Norths to get a game may have been the kick in the guts he needed to get his head right and refocus on being a footballer again, because he was hugely improved in the game on the weekend.

I'd say he was North's best in that first half and his carries were strong... definitely not against him picking up a train and trial deal to see if he can keep it up and get a top 30 contract out of it.

Last year, that's been his issue all along, physically he's a specimen and makes ground but he's so flighty- second ISC club and five NRL clubs.

Smith seems to have helped which is what he's really good at. Again I would give Smith a job at the Broncos.

He's only played three games for Norths but certainly been strong. If he plays well Sunday that's great for him. Defusing Scarlett's kicking game will be his biggest worry.

Perhaps Smith serves the Broncos better where he's presently at?

Possibly and maybe he would rather be a head ISC coach then assistant NRL coach- He's done the assistant thing.

The improvement in Norths on and off the field is outstanding. This is their first GF since 2010 and possibly first win since 1998.

If you just look superficially at the improvement.

2014- 7th
2015- 13th
2016-11th
2017-10th
2018- 8th (Smith first year)
2019- 5th
2021- First and Grand Final

Norths feeder Valleys are in the BRL GF too, so he has them running smoothly across all grades.

Could he potentially where he is serving an apprenticeship in the event Kevvie needs to be replaced?

I like giving MacDonald a train and trial deal, he could do what Oates does but for a fraction of the cost.

Good point you make. Also, didn't Norths only lose like one or two games the whole season? I think that's a better indication of good coaching too. I'd really love it if he manages to 'coach' Nene back to something close to where he was before he went of the rails as I rated him as one of the best wingers in the comp. then.

Doubt it, no one has ever gone from ISC to NRL head coach. I very much doubt an NRL club would be bold enough.

Yeah 15/17 with 10 in a row. He debuted 22 players in 2018. He's been great with developing young players and improving them.

Norths team of 21 named for Sunday is all Norths contracted players- Levi signed with Norths first. They don't have any NRL players dropping back. It's a legit Norths team.

That's great development.

Some achievement for sure. i think you mentioned that Ahearn was the heart and soul of the team. It looked that way on Sunday. Wonder why he never made it to the NRL, he seemed to be everywhere the ball was in that game.

Absolutely, he's the key. If Norths win he will be the Duncan Hall Medal. He played NYC for the Raiders (58 games) and has now played over 100 ISC games.

Probably his level NYC and ISC- very good player.

Is he that bald guy? I thought he looked really good on the weekend. Kinda reminded me of Nicho Hynes in the way that he's not that physically gifted but plays smart.
