Can't really worry about what's done.

All that matters is, he's unlikely to play in the next 11 months so if we can free up a spot, then as @theshed mentioned, Isaako goes in 2023, Arthars comes back. It's actually shrewd management by the club. We can now have that spot to target a backup 9 or another position we're missing, or replace him with someone on 100k and forward pay another player the 50-150k we save to free up money for 2023.
Plus Arthurs will get a bunch of game time and NRL experience for a season. He should either come back improved or land himself a deal elsewhere if we don’t want him.

Is it shrewd though? Shrewd would be doing all that without first signing a guy for no reason.

Edit: we've also now set ourselves up for a Kahu/Macca situation if things don't work out in our favour.

I can see your point but he's probably a 200k player, it's really not the end of the world if he does come back in 2023, barring injury, I'd actually like him to come back in 2023. Unlike the other two where I couldn't wait to see the back of them.

We're apparently setting up a moneyball system so Ikin/DD have probably found out a better way to structure the top 30. There's going to be some trial and error but 99% of their decisions so far I am fully on board with.

Ikin was pretty chuffed with the re-signing in August. Seemingly a bit of an opportunity has come up to do some shuffling. Keen to see who they’ll have fill his top 30 spot.

I'm happy with the decision itself, I rate Arthars as a backup but he's definitely not a required player. I just find the whole thing weird.

Hopefully there's someone we've got our eye on for that #30 spot and it's just not a case of replacing one depth player with another slightly cheaper but less experienced depth player.

Wouldn't surprise me if with Arthur gone Hoeter gets promoted to the top 30.
The club will probably opt to leave a couple spots open incase something pops up with leilua trying to leave for the cowboys early, Cotric back to Canberra and a few more situations including with whole Brandon smith circus clubs will look to shed some troops to get players in early.

So I guess that means we have another top 30 spot available this year?
Bit of a shame though because I did rate him as good depth.
Arthars wasn't anything special, but he wasn't terrible for us in 2021. Scored 5 tries from 11 appearances. Which is about par for a centre. Our other centre scored 3 from 20 appearances. Amongst the worst in the league. Back of the year, though. So he should keep his position.

Of course, tries aren't everything. Unless you're trying to win.

This is pretty stale now. You’ve made your opinion known. No need to be boring about it

Couldn't resist could you?

Geez, you don't see many choke up like Brenko Lee did when they asked him what it means to play for Brisbane

Agreed. I reckon he is a pretty strong chance to be in the round 1 team and I for one would love to see the likes of him, Jensen and Pereira all make it if they train the house down in preseason.

I am starting to think that Ezra Mam might be the 6 come rd 1. Pat seems to think it’s a 2 horse race between Tyson and Ezra. The amount of people I have seen say something about how freakish he is makes me think that he is in a lot of peoples good books. I personally love both Gamble and Albert but it’s possibly fair to say that they don’t stand out to much. Ezra seems to have a good work ethic and talent as well as cup form to go off. Usually that helps players a lot when coming into calculations. I’d personally refrain from using him but I think he could almost be classified as the favourite especially how high he has jumped on the ladder in 3/4 weeks.

He is probably a genuine superstar but much like Selwyn Cobbo, Kevvie needs to look after him.

I expect Kelly or Gamble to get the 6

Totally agree I've had this thought the last few weeks that he's slowly making his way up the pecking order he seems to be the one getting talked about more than Gamble and Kelly.
If he clicks with Reynolds I'm all for it there probably isn't a better halfback in the NRL to start a 18 year old next too.

You make a good point there actually, Kevvie can afford to put anyone he wants at 6. Reynolds will absolutely be the guy out there steering the ship, which 6 can provide more brilliance?

I feel like Gamble provided some control to our game last year but with Reynolds now in that slot, maybe we don't need as much control from whoever our 5/8 ends up being, I would say the expectation would be he must have a decent short kicking game, at least. I do love the aggression Gamble brings though, I love reading social media and seeing other fans wishing someone would knock him out, been a while since we had a guy like that. Not since Josh McGuire? I know people wanted to see Lodge get one on the jaw but that had nothing to do with what he does out on the field.

Surely it would make the most sense to have Gamble start at 6 for the year and let Mam get the occasional taste off the bench. Could Mam cover other backline positions - centre or fullback? I'll put my hand up and admit I've never seen him play, totally going off hype here. But if he's capable enough he could cover a few spots or do some shuffling, and you could get him some NRL minutes here and there while allowing him to continue develop in Q-Cup.

That probably means you are only picking one hooker for those games, and using Gamble or Hetherington to spell Paix or Turps (Paix hopefully).
