Plus I don’t recall Hetherington dropping off any tackles and also pulling out some big hits. I can recall Carrigan dropping off many tackles that led to tries, though he certainly wasn’t alone there in that horror period.
I agree with all of that.
I can see Carrigan filling a Steve Price style game up front for the Broncos ,whilst Hethro can offer way more for us at lock and will only get better.

Carrigan at prop and hethrington at lock also balances our bench out alot better. We could potentially even carry Gamble and paix/Walters on the bench with flegler and james/robati/palaiasia/jensen/piakura/willison. We couldn't carry a bench with Hetherington, Gamble and paix/Walters though, no way!

I watched a couple of last year's games. I really hope kevie starts hetherington at 13. Although he is not a big stat player (i.e. lots of metres), he has so many subtle aspects to his game that improve the team's performance.

- although he is not the biggest, he puts his hand up for the hard runs (I.e defence had the momentum) and although he may not make massive metres he gets quick play the balls to help the next runner
- he is a very good support player. If our other middles learn to throw a short ball to him before the defensive line We will be able to generate a lot of momentum up the centre of the field.
- he has great lateral movement in the defensive line and closed gaps which is why we looked better defensively with him on the field.
- although people say traditional tackling does not suit today's game, he hits in the copy book style that the player ends on his back and a team mate can wrap him up up top and control the ruck.
- if two players are holding a player he is often that third player to go in low (but safely) to finish the tackle (like melbourne).
- he clears the ruck and is not frequently left on the ground or out of position at the play the ball.

I see him being that grafter who just gets the shit done that doesn't earn applause, but wins you games.
yep, I see a little bit of Darren Smith/Dallas Johnson style player in him...versatile and reliable, heart on sleeve. The sort of player every team needs. For sure would love him at 13.

Id love Carrigan and Haas at prop with James and Flegler on the bench.

Sadly, Carrigan is still a lock on the 13 jumper this year.. so someone else is primed to play 8.

My ideal scenario would be

8. Carrigan
10. Haas
13. Hetherington

But they are going with

8. ?
10. Haas
13. Carrigan

Who know....maybe R1-3 see Carrigan filling in at Prop before you get Flegler back and Gamble is gonna get the 13.. doubt it.. but who plays backup to Haas?

Reports from training and interviews.

Haven't had a chance to get down there myself this preseason like I usually do, but from all info coming out of red Hill, Billy is currently first choice.

Trying to taper some expectations come R1 team list Tuesday.

I think it is a bit worrying to be honest... Billy is at the age where it's make or break to have a shot at the NRL in a full-time role, and all of a sudden his dad is the coach giving him every opportunity in front of guys like Tyson who put everything into last season but also someone like Kelly who too, has his last shot at NRL glory.

Not saying 100% that's what's happening obviously, but the thought can't not cross your mind.

Hopefully Kev picks the BEST option after trying all available combinations
I have absolute confidence he will NOT pick his son if he's not aiming up. I'm certain he is fully aware and he's got staff around him who will speak their minds. What I do think will happen is his son will get a shot but he won't get extra shots. Like any Dad in KWs position he might give him one more game than he really is entitled to but if Billy bombs then that will be that.

KW might even surprise us all and genuinely go off the warm ups. His kid might even surprise a few. With Renault there a lot of average 5/8s would look okay by his side. Once again I'm optimistically looking forward to the season...you'd think I'd learn.

You could say the same about Haas as well tbh. Certain players were managed very poorly over the last couple of years in terms of their playing time and i think they were probably the 2 ( Carrigan and Haas especially ) that were left on the field way too long and they both suffered from fatigue at different times in games.

At least with Hetherington we have a viable option now at 13 so Pat can move back to prop.

While I want him to move back to prop, all reports do far have Pat at lock again.

Not a bad squad but we could do with a Ferrari in the spine.

And this would be the player car yard we would be recruiting from if White and Seibold still remained

I freely admit you understand the game better than I but I never thought Carrigan was a prop at heart. I'm probably wrong but I thought he was more than a battering ram.

It’s his looks, it’s easy to be drawn in to thinking he’s more than just a barrel chest, thick muscly arms and flowing locks.

I dont think i understand the game better then you buddy!

Since i saw him coming through he's just always been better at prop imo. HE can play lock and do a good job there, but especially how the lock role is being played these days i think he is more suited to prop. Just my opinion though.

If only the coach thought the same

Well, that's first hand viewing and a much better understanding of his abilities, something I don't have. My opinion is just based on what I see on TV and the occasional live game. I don't think size is a problem or hardness either because he is fearless but I thought he was more nimble than most of the lumbering giants and maybe he could do a job at lock.

I really don’t have any good reason to think he shouldn't play prop. It just that when I saw him play there he never really seemed to make a strong impression. Capable yes but nothing stood out. Perhaps he was constrained by coaching directives and I'm judging him harshly. Like most fans I haven't the knowledge and training to be a good judge and of course I am at a disadvantage by not knowing the guy.

What I have read about him though, reported ( I'm referring to quotes here) by those who do know him indicates a highly motivated intelligent young man. If he says he's a prop too then that would be enough for me.

****, I can't wait for the season to get underway this year. I think I'm extra keen because I want the world to get back to normal and the game makes me feel just that bit closer.
