Live offside and hope you don't get penalised?
I get the sense the totally impartial and completely balanced referee will not allow this kind of illegal behaviour to stand ... and we will be penalised to oblivion.

Need to go back to the drawing board and study how Penrith, Parra, Souths, Rorters, cows and Melbourne are able to get off their line so quickly and legally instead

Complain about the refs between games?

Definitely has something to do with who they are and not much else.

Nope that cant be it... havent you heard the NRL referees are basically robots who are completely free of bias (unconscious, subconscious, conscious and any other bias that may exist!!).... there is no way narrative of any sort could influence these stone cold black hearted tinmen.

These guys are basically police on the field who refuse to accept any kind of illegal conduct.

I just want the guys to put in a quality effort that shows the preseason hard work was worth while.
I agree. I just want them to defend well, keep the errors down and compete for 80 mins. The Panthers are a bloody good side but there is no reason we can’t win if they turn up to play. I won’t be putting the house on a win but will be happy to see genuine improvement. If we win, I’ll be drunk for two days!

St Helens attacked Penrith wide and made penrith's backs defend, which I think blunted the effectiveness of their hit ups as they were fatigued (that and being offside).

I know we jest and discuss the referees a bit during the season, but have a look at the “10m” that the likes of Penrith, Storm and Rorters hold during this year.

The “successful” sides will constantly stand off side from the first couple of minutes.
This will get a couple of results from the refs. They either let it go and it keeps happening or they will penalise. Either way, the NRL will never allow a lopsided 40-4 penalty count, so eventually these sides train the ref to hold an 8-9 metre line. Then we wonder how they’re so fast off their line and take time and space away.

This sort of goes back to what I was saying about Penrith’s back 5 doing the work from their own half. It’s automatic and a learned behaviour.

Remember this as you watch a bit of footy this season, it’s been happening for a few years now.

It's blatant once you start watching for it. Fox and 9 show the wide shots on the play-the-ball so rarely now though, it's difficult to monitor if you're not there live. But when they DO show it, the 'good' teams are usually offside. There's rarely replays when a team is called inside the 10, too. Bit nervous that we got called out for it more than a couple of times during the trials...guessing line speed was identified as an issue over the off season (as it should have been).

Watching game live it’s just blatant as.
Yes, you may cop a penalty or two, maybe even a sin bin for the first 4-6 weeks.
THEN…
You teach and coach the refs to accept it as the norm. They realise they don’t have a job next week if they blow 80 penalties against you, so they relax.

Dropping that crackdown a few years back because the players refused to follow the rules and the coaches got a bee in their bonnet that they couldn't push the limits, was the worst thing for this game since forever. The NRL HAD to stick to their guns, not back down. It's all been downhill since then, give them an inch and they'll take a mile. I actually feel for the refs a bit on this, we all roast them for 'managing' the game but that's what they've been told to do by their employer. It's a fucking joke.

It like the infamous Souths v Rorters game last year. Blow a million penalties, from memory, 7 sin bins, but it’s the refs fault for ruining the game. No one said “I’m proud of the ref for not putting up with shit anymore and taking control”

I guess it's hard to criticise these things without pointing to the ref in some way. The NRL is an entertainment product (Wayne Bennett has even emphasised this!), and what attracts viewers is fast, high-scoring games, and the controversy also helps with the media of it all. If you look at it all as business, it's less of a conspiracy theory and it all makes sense.

Unfortunately, the Broncos are simultaneously undergoing a rebuild with young, mentally weak players and have been unable to adapt beyond the amount of control the ref and their bosses have on the game.

All in all, it's fun to then spiral it into an anti-Broncos conspiracy, but really the NRL is just losing the essence of the game to commercialisation and I think when people realise that it will leave a lot of fans feeling empty and wanting a return to the 00's brand of NRL.

My biggest worry is the amount of errors we make and when we make them. Our opposition makes an error and invariably we make one ourselves in the very next set of 6 and hand the ball straight back to them instead of scoring or making them defend for multiple sets.
