POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

I'm not calling for his head, but I thought he came off pretty dismissive.
The correct response to being called a "monkey" would have been to say "you're the one who's paid peanuts."

It came across dismissive but I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. A fight was brewing, players were yelling at him and he had to deal with the infringement of Walsh all in the same five seconds. His tone was very much a gain back control tone. I’m sure if he could have his time back he would be more empathetic to Ezra at the time but it can take quite a while to process what happened let alone the best way to handle it or that you might not be dealing with it in the right way. Could he have handled the initial handling better sure could have but I think the negative attention really needs to be directed at the culprit, roosters and fuckwits on social media over the initially dismissive ref.

Not too upset with this result. Our defence was premiership winning level. We lost a player really early in the position we lack depth in. Our left edge held their own defensively against one of the better right edge attacking teams in the competition. We were rusty and new combinations will take a while to gel, but there was enough there to show there is plenty of points in us this season. Staggs was epic, which is a good sign for this year.

I don't like the amount of errors, particularly early in the tackle count, but I think as fans we need to get used to it, because it is clearly our game plan to chance your hand no matter the situation.

Agreed, at the same time I'm not going to applaud him for it either. Sproj isn't the only person I've seen online and I thought the audio painted a pretty ordinary light. You could also argue if Spencer had been penalised for his grubby antics in the ruck, the incident wouldn't have taken place at all, presuming it was said during that confrontation.

I might be missing something because I haven’t watched the game again and honestly won’t but what can the ref do there aside from say we’ll deal with it later? He isn’t a counsellor. He’s also got two very charged up teams ready to blow that he’s trying to control. Of course he may have done something I missed and that is where the ire is coming from.
He didn't hear it so it's understandable that no penalty was given without evidence. My concern is that when a player says this has occurred the reaction shouldn't be to have the victim have to say they want something done. The ref should just say I want what has been reported on report. The way it unfolded has put the whole thing back on Ezra. Gee's first response was to say "we will deal with this later" and then proceeded this by saying "this is a spectacle, we need to get on with it". His concern was for the game and not the player, a ref has a duty of care for the players first in my opinion.

It’s more a case of some unfortunate people with so much blind hatred of themselves they latch onto any opportunity to try to make others feel what they feel
Pretty much the basis of all hatred.

Well said

He tried to pull the gf effort which myself have been in agreement with you was pretty poor then and even worse now. In that one play there were errors everywhere which seemed to be ignored….now we have this on our hands. He lost control

Just call the game by the book..

This is a weird one.

Its racism in a game that is being promoted to a potentially huge market and so Vlandys will have to smash him with a big suspension.
On the other hand, he plays for Uncle Nicks team, and Nick and Vlandys are 100% in bed together.

This game reeked of corruption to me.
Vlandys and Politis best mates and both neck deep in the gambling industry in the gambling capitol of the world in one of the most corrupt places in the world.

Uncle Nicks international reputation at stake with his team.
HUGE bets changing hands which will sucker a lot of American punters in to the game betting on the underdog (Roosters) and winning.

I am prone to conspiratorial thinking though so i may be biased in more than one way here.
I love a tinfoil hat and was thinking the same thing.

Also the flogs wear the same colours of the US flag, no yank wants to see their colours lose and would've backed them naturally.

If I was a sensationalist RL journo I'd be writing an article about the racist issue at East's. This is the 2nd time in recent years this dog **** team has been accused of something like this.

If there was a formal complaint then the ref should have taken a couple of minutes to review the available audio. The bunker often takes several minutes to come to a conclusion over whether or not a punch was thrown in a melee, this shouldn't be any different.

It's a send off offence yet we were the team that had to defend a penalty after having an opposition player allegedly racially abuse one of ours.

Upset about all this. We're with you, Ezra. I'm sure the entire league is too.

Roosters players, coaches and fans response to this has really shattered my view of them. I've always really respected them as an organisation. That has definitely changed after today.
TBF to them, Leniu is probably denying that he said it so they are ofc going to back their player's word.

Adam Gee's mic makes it very clear that 'It's a spectacle and we need to keep it moving'. (Says this when talking to Spencer after the report).

No chance they were doing any investigation at the time of the report.

Clear instructions from above regarding the 'spectacle'. Which is also why we couldn't buy a penalty for ruck infringements when the chooks get hammered by them usually. Whistle was buried as deep in the pocket as possible which Roosters took advantage of and we didn't.

Everyone needs to calm down with the whole doom and gloom…
Keep in mind:
one interception off a dumb fucken pass…
And one pass that only went 2 meters forward..
There is 12 points there.
Not to mention:
One Piakura getting KOd in the 1st minute and Patty playing on edge.
Not defending the outcome, because at the same time, **** the Broncos were bad and didn’t deserve the win.

He could have dealt with all the bullshit of slapping and other shit Spencer was doing leading up to it, probably avoids this whole thing. But why would he do that? He didn’t do anything in the GF and everyone has told him what a good boy he is so why would he do anything now?

Further to that it was his whole dismissive tone. It was basically “we’ll deal with this later I’m not letting shit like this get in the way of the spectacle we are pointing on”. You look at the way things like an accusation of a bite are dealt with, even if there isn’t a mark they talk to other players around and try to see if it is legitimate. Her wanted nothing to do with it and it was clear that Mam’s little issue was dampening his spotlight.
