POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

Monkey or Ape isn't a racist slur to Samoans. Samoans are Polynesian people so they don't have African ancestry.
Africans and Aborigines were classed as closer to Monkeys by Europeans in the 1700s.
That's why it's racist to one and not the other.
Appreciate this answer… but that was a long fucking time ago.

I’m not trying to say it’s not ‘racist’, but it’s not like he called him an n word or equivalent.

My kids have called me a baboon and gorilla because I’m quite fat around the middle… racist kids much?

Suspend him have him go out to remote aboriginal communities and let him see the faces of the ppl that find these slurs offensive if he is proven guilty.

First strike can be blamed on ignorance if it happens again cya later no room in the game for ya.

Well this selective outrage over classes of insults is a slippery slope. What happens when Ezra is teased about being a crybaby, called sookybubba or something? And he sure as **** will be.

Should that also be banned? Or is everything that hasn't become a political trope given a free pass? Can you call someone a fat ****, a bald ****, an ugly **** or a Karen? Is there really a difference between calling some a dumb **** and a retard? Where do mongoloid and spastic sit these days in the spectrum of taboo insults? Is it okay to call them unco or dickfingers instead?

Lenui is obviously a gigantic dickhead. But are you allowed to call him that? What if he starts crying?

At some point you have to harden the **** up and move past this hysteria.
Not sure what happened in the off season but it seemed like finally you starting to come good with being positive but I’m wrong. You’re back to being you & I’m disgusted mate.

What you saying about this is awful. I hope you realise it soon.

Didn't the time-stamp work? That's the 11:30 would make it the 68th minute, correct?
Absolutely, there was nearly 15sec of footage wasn’t captured in the back play as Spenser & May went at Staggs. Spenser did throw a punch at Katoni which was ignored and not even looked at.

If Walsh got the punt for using the c word, this has gotta be double the suspension without even battling an eyelid.
didn't Josh Mcguire get 12 weeks for something similar over in superleague?

Cmon man, It’s the context that it’s used in. Why did leniu use that word in that moment? Ezra isn’t fat around the middle, he wasn’t monkeying around.

This is going to get interesting. Rothfield article out tomorrow.
Is it out? The latest Rothfield article I can find is about the Broncos and Roosters having to share a flight home.

There's meant to be an article detailing everything that's happened from him. Courier mail looks to have published first this morning also.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

I don't buy the whole this type of comment is OK because this reason, and that isn't because of history, oppression, other reasons. Targeting someone's appearance to taunt them, put them off their game, make them feel bad, whatever - this behaviour is either OK or it isn't. 30 years ago it was OK. If someone said crap like that to you, you either gave back as good as you got, or you punched them. That was the way world worked. These days, the standards are different. But there can't be different lines. And I understand that calling me fat and bald is not AS bad as calling a person of colour something racist, but it still MUST be considered bad and therefore not OK to do.
Using words to target someone's appearance, that they often have no control over, in order to shame them, demoralise them, etc. is utterly indefensible in today's society, completely irrespective of whether those words are racially motivated or not.
That so many people here cannot see this boggles my mind.

Everyone here can see that all insults are bad but in the context of Ezra, an indigenous person being called a monkey it isn't relevant. If you and McHunt want to start an 'all insults are bad' or 'should all insults and taunting be banned in sport' thread go for gold, but to use it as a way to dilute the impact of what was said to Mam is disgusting. I realise 'whataboutism' is a pretty common defense tactic especially when it comes to racism but people aren't failing to see your point, they just refuse to engage with it because it isn't relevant to the racial slur said to Ezra.
