POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

Honestly I’m not sure the Roosters threw a backward pass all night. Including Manu’s Mahomes impression throwing that offload about 2m forward for their try.

We played like dirt- every one of our guns had a shocker and we were out on our feet yet we were still in it with 10 to go. It gives me great comfort thinking what we’ll do to these clowns when we see them again in a few weeks time and we’re primed and ready to go.

I tend to agree Patty was the best option to play second row with what we had but how we have had all pre-season with this being a very real possibility and threat and that’s still the case is fucken putrid. You might get away with it if we are in really top form and the forward pack have figured out there dynamic without Flegs but it was just simply not an option to lose Carrigan in the middle in this game he was far to integral to be out on the edge.

Honestly I think it would have been fine but a fair few things went against us tonight. The Roosters were perfect, had the rub of the green all night and we were still In it to the death. Gives me great confidence that we aren't about to have another capitulation

I do wonder whether Hetherington would’ve been the better option to replace Patty in the middle rather than Jensen. Hetherington does offer a bit of ball playing ability which was missing with Jensen and stifled our ability to space out the field.
Does Kobe offer ball playing though??

Kevvie went with Smoothy for that role later in the game, but also had Haas doing the ball playing as well (ended up throwing a hospital pass to Sam Walker).

I feel when Kobe is on the field he's playing as a prop... he's playing as the small middle forward with footwork and quick ptb's and he does it well... but I don't really recall him dumping passes out the back or dropping short passes off to his supporting forwards.

To me he needs to be getting minimum 40mins and sharing the 80mins with Jensen... but he's not really been used by Kevvie since that bicep injury last preseason and I'm not sure why.

In 2022 he was legitimately changing momentum when he came on the field and creating linebreaks from the middle... pretty sure it was him who created the game winning try in the knights game last year with footwork and the offload.

This has overshadowed everything the nrl tried to achieve by taking the game to Vegas. They better be punishing Leniu accordingly
This is a weird one.

Its racism in a game that is being promoted to a potentially huge market and so Vlandys will have to smash him with a big suspension.
On the other hand, he plays for Uncle Nicks team, and Nick and Vlandys are 100% in bed together.

This game reeked of corruption to me.
Vlandys and Politis best mates and both neck deep in the gambling industry in the gambling capitol of the world in one of the most corrupt places in the world.

Uncle Nicks international reputation at stake with his team.
HUGE bets changing hands which will sucker a lot of American punters in to the game betting on the underdog (Roosters) and winning.

I am prone to conspiratorial thinking though so i may be biased in more than one way here.

On the positive i loved seeing Maam and Walsh playing with that same magic as last year.
I love Arthars, bloke is solid as **** in defense and special in attack as well.

Big Payne was excellent as usual.
Kobe looked good.

I cant help but feel we win that game on a regulation NRL field.
We had some nice attack that ran too deep too early, and on a larger in-goal is a different outcome.

Considering how good Manu and Teddy played, im happy it wasnt a blowout.

Patty is pivitol to how we play. We lose so much cohesion and organisation when he moves out of the middle.
Yup, I thought gone are the days where Brendan would finally stay on the field & Patty doesn’t have to be doing the fill-in back row.
F..k what do I know? Less than 10min into the season opener, Brendan’s off to HIA never to be returned which made Patty play 80 min.

Simply put, both Payne & Patty shouldn’t be playing longer minutes.

Never seen kobe ball play. Once. Because he used to play hooker they think he has a pass. He probably does but at NRL level he's always been a bull nosed, smaller forward that knows how to tackle

The refs mic doersn't pick up Leniu but it sure as hell picks up the immediate reactions of the Broncos that heard it. He is in for a world of pain off the back of this.
Lindsay Collins goes up and high fives the racist ****. **** that guy.

Oh I agree, but if he has to be moved to an edge I don’t think Jensen is the person to replace him.
I think Haas basically became our lock when Patty moved... he was doing a fair bit of passing in the middle third.

I mean, if it was a regulation pitch arthars scores the first try of the game, piakura doesn't get knocked out the very next set and mam doesn't throw an intercept.

Can pretty much blame the whole game on the field... right?

The speed off the line was sensational for both teams, both fast and showed great fitness.

Broncos pre-contact was 4.7m
Roosters pre-contact was 4.68m

That's quick.

The Broncos' sets went further than the Roosters but the Roosters moved it more stretched the Broncos defence. The attack on the back of those sets was an issue.

Well wasn't that a frusterating watch?

To me it kind of felt like we weren't overly prepared to do the hard work/ we expected things to continue on from last season. Gotta give it to the roosters they were genuinely better.

Dissapointed with our lack of go forward which made it hard for our key men to score points. All of that off the back of ill dicipline and having to make too many tackles.

Its round one so you don't want to get too carried away but we did seem to miss Herbies meters coming out of trouble and Flegers aggression. If you want to take some positives away we did manage two tries with limited opportunities and also managed to turn them away time after time. A lesser team would have lost that by 30.

One final note, while i understand it was a business decision to allow Capewell to go. I really hope a having a shortage of second rowers doesn't come back to bite us in the bum.

Ezra in 2008. He's a proud man and is very upset.

I dislike politis and vlandys as much as anyone else but for this game our attack just sucked. All of our plays broke down except for one where walsh scores a clean try untouched. Eventually we just couldn’t hold on. Our issue is still building pressure, very frantic with ball in hand. It’s like we’re always praying for a penalty or error to come our way but when we finally get one, we cough it up.

Now if nothing comes of the racial allegations then you have yourself a conspiracy.

Uncle Nick will be making some calls to 'find and erase' the footage and audio, I'm sure.

You reckon Uncle Nick has more power than Lachlan Murdoch the #1 ticket holder of the Broncos and CEO of FOX ?

not at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if the old codger picked up the phone and made some calls in an attempt
