POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

Its going to be interesting to see how the NRL handle this. If they have hard evidence, then they simply have to make an example of him. Gallen iirc only got a fine for calling Mickey Paea a racist name, which was a joke. Its got to be something in the region of 15 games imo if they are serious about racism.

My gut feeling though he's going to get away with this simply because you cant punish somebody without the evidence, and i'm not sure its there.

Hard to know if the hard evidence of audio is there but they must have something to refer him straight to the judiciary. Even if there is no audio and I do not know what standard the judiciary needs but for mine there is enough evidence. You have players on the field confirming that he said it, you have Spencer not denying it but instead referring to it as 'fun and games' and that it should stay on the field and you have the doubling down from his brother as well as the reports from the hotel where he is attacking Ezra again for dobbing on him. Those aren't the actions of an innocent person.

You get fewer games for taking someone’s head off… is name calling worse than a spear tackle/shoulder charge now?

Everyone here can see that all insults are bad but in the context of Ezra, an indigenous person being called a monkey it isn't relevant. If you and McHunt want to start an 'all insults are bad' or 'should all insults and taunting be banned in sport' thread go for gold, but to use it as a way to dilute the impact of what was said to Mam is disgusting. I realise 'whataboutism' is a pretty common defense tactic especially when it comes to racism but people aren't failing to see your point, they just refuse to engage with it because it isn't relevant to the racial slur said to Ezra.

It's like saying to someone with brain cancer, all cancers matter- of course they do but at the moment I am dealing with brain cancer.

I'm not saying Ezra shouldn't be upset being insulted. I'm not saying Lenui didn't know what he was doing.

I'm saying perhaps those on this board who are getting their panties in a knot over this might like to reflect on other insults they use. Try practicing what you preach.

Guys, we should at least give McHunt credit for having the conviction to practice what he preaches...

Are you honestly complaining because I went to the effort of stripping the copyrighted content from articles and reposting them here when the site was being hounded by Newscorp? Go **** yourself, dickhead. No seriously, shove you amateur journalist shit up your arse you ungrateful fuckwit.

I think it is in the current climate. I dont think you can just put every incident under the same umbrella. You have to judge everything on their own situation.

Racism, homophobic comments etc should have no place in society let alone in sport. Spear tackles or shoulder charges as you used for your example should be penalised on the severity of the incident. If a shoulder charge or spear tackle is bad enough, it should be a long ban as well.

They have to refer him to the judiciary because a complaint has been made basically.

I agree with you though, i think he's done it, 100% i do, but without the audio i dont know where that leaves them unless players from his own team, or another official heard him and own up to it.

You know he and the roosters are going to deny it and die on the hill defending it.

Thats my gut feeling. They arent going into damage control, which i think they would if there was any evidence of him saying it. The fact they havent yet is a bit worrying. Hopefully i'm way off.

My feeling from Spencer is that he isn't defending it, he is trying to get Ezra to withdraw the complaint. Not once have I heard him say he didn't say it, the only time he has come close is immediately after when he was saying to the ref 'why would I say that' or to that affect clearly trying to get them to move on. Every comment since then when he has had time to reflect has been "it's fun and games and should stay on the field" and attacking Ezra to say why didn't you leave it on the field. Denial would be answer's Read's question with "I didn't call him that" not "fun and games". Denial would be not saying to Ezra why did you dob on me but instead "I didn't call you that, you are lying or you misheard me"

You are exactly right but in this case it is worse. It is not only saying all cancers matter but it is saying that to someone that has had to battle that specific strain of brain cancer their whole life based on nothing but their ethnicity. Further to that you have cancer-free people that can never get that strain of cancer saying everyone gets illnesses, my kids gave me a cold this morning and you don't hear me complaining.

My boss just called me a "silly sausage". Given that 'all insults are equal' I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you all that I am in bits. Please keep me in your thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This convo can't be real?

Semantics.

Intent is the issue here as well.
Leniu was not joking or partaking in some light-hearted banter/ribbing here.
His insult had intent to be malicious.
**** him, he deserves what's coming.

Also I'm shocked the Roosters have not come out with a formal "we do not condone racism" spin to the media in some capacity as well.

I'd love to see them get the spoon now.
