Nathan Cleary hit with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle charge and is facing a two game ban.
As long as the judiciary don't go rogue, because he's a NSWRL golden child, then he ain't getting off that or a downgrade.

Forceful shoulder to the head was Grade 2 all last year... Cleary was on his toes and no mitigating circumstances.

Panthers might be thinking a downgrade to Grade 1, but that's not consistent with what's been ruled for awhile now and they would lose, but it's only 1 extra week so they might risk it

Riff have us, sharks, rorters first three weeks followed by the eels and storm. They could be staring down the barrel of a 1-4 or 0-5 start if Cleary cops 3 weeks. Surely they just accept 2 weeks

Who's their backup half this year?

Did I see Cogger come back?

He was good enough to earn a starting contract last time he filled in for Cleary so maybe they'll be happy to cop the suspension.

They should be good enough to beat sharks without Cleary and they get us with no preseason and coming back from England.

Back in the day it took WCC teams the first few weeks to get back up to speed after getting back from England

Yes, Cogger went back there but didn’t play against Tigers yesterday due to some issues. We can lock him to be their 7 for our R1 game.

Our trip to the ****in dreaded land should give us plenty of motivation on what needs to be improved on. Not expecting miracles in the next 2 weeks but we will get them.

SMH are reporting that the Panthers are considering seeking a downgrade for Cleary.

SMH Reports

"Sources with knowledge of the situation not authorised to speak publicly confirmed Penrith would seek legal advice, but believe they could have a case because Makasini juggled the ball and appeared to dip just before he was tackled by Cleary.

Cleary also showed a duty of care because both feet were planted on the ground, and he was always in control of the tackle."

Fox reporting that panthers are going for the downgrade... looks like PVL pardon has come in.

Bloke is off his feet and smokes him in the face with the shoulder, but that'll be all good for the golden boy

lol at this part of the report

There were concerns that Cleary’s suspension would prevent the star half being eligible for a maiden Dally M Medal in 2026.

However, the NRL have confirmed to the AAP that won’t be the case as the incident occurred in the pre-season and not the regular season, even though Cleary could miss regular season games because of it.

This was inevitable
Sydney media will be providing as much evidence as possible such as "can't let a tackle in preseason affect a game of this magnitude... imagine if he misses a prelim rematch"

Saw it again on Fox just now... I think I saw somewhere that their argument is going to be something to do with Makasini juggling the ball and I guess that being mitigating circumstances.

He does juggle the ball, but his height doesn't change at all... absolutely no way he should be getting a downgrade.

Forceful shoulder to the head has been a grade 2 all of last year... basically every sin bin last year copped a grade 2 charge and suspension... excluding any that fell within a crackdown week

this is the Panthers argument (should they challenge the grading) according to the SMH

Makasini juggled the ball and appeared to dip just before he was tackled by Cleary.

Cleary also showed a duty of care because both feet were planted on the ground, and he was always in control of the tackle."
