PRE-GAME Round 1 - Eels vs Broncos

They are not going to just give us the trophy because we came close last year. We will have to earn it starting from round 1. I wouldn't expect any easy games but I think we are ready and should get the job done.

Roberts was very shaky/flakey in that WCC and in the All-Stars game. Defensively he is nowhere near Reed or Hodges. That's my main concern.

I do hope Wayne has Roberts' head right.

He's got BUST written all over him. New club, big money in the bank, others taking the responsibility off him. Slipping in and out of games.

Fingers crossed...

Just like Milford last year, I think Wayne will be investing the majority of Roberts' time in to defensive structures and techniques. The attack will come later, and come naturally. That's why we have to wait for it.

In the same way, Gillett's massive defensive improvement last year says to me that he has that side of things sorted, 2016 is the year to work on his attack.

I really don't see how he was flakey...

Big money? He came here for way less than anywhere else. It was well reported. He has come here to stay out of Sydney and to learn from Bennett. Sound like pretty fucking good reasons to me.

It is amazing how determined to be pessimistic some people are about the Broncos and individual players

Roberts is an enigmatic player with the makings of super-stardom. That process takes time and half a pre-season is barely enough time but mark my words by September he will be one of the top centres in the competition capable of more than taking advantage of bad play.

If nothing else, it generates discussion and gets people to consider "why" somebody is bad or excellent.

I wonder how much time Bennett has spend working on our attack for this year. From all reports, he didn't do much last year and solely focused on defence. By the looks of it, we have been practicing our backline sweep play quite a bit. I expect Boyd to be fairly influential in attack this year if the World Club Challenge game is anything to go by.

Might be the first time I've seen you actually make a bold call like that, I like it, and hope you're correct.

He will be correct. I just get a feeling that this team is going to be dominant in defence and attack.

We on the other hand are 100% ready to hit the ground running.

This was my biggest take away from the WCC. It was encouraging to see how polished we looked, structures in attack and defence all looked solid.

We didn't look like a team in the midst of pre season. Looked like we'd barely missed a beat since last year.

We're ready. Are they?

We'll probably put 40 on the Eels.

Yeah this.

I thought we looked outstanding, especially being a preseason game.

I initially had us in for a slim win by 6 or so, but I increased that margin a bit after the WCC game.

I guess we'll see about Roberts. The media and members will tear him apart for any mistakes ala Milford after the first few rounds last year.

Anyway, Milford looked so fucking on song in that WCC.

Robert isn't on the Broncos natural attacking side either. Hodges didn't get enough quality ball and had to use dummy half running. Milford and Hunt will need to adapt and use the right more.

Broncos dominate side is the left by a far margin try scoring wise. It will take time too for that to work.

Checked- 84 on the left and 54 on the right side.

This is why i said at half time in the WCC that bennett should make Roberts into a left Centre. All our attack goes that way. Bit of a waste Imo.

Kind of makes them too predictable, if they can score just as much down the right side and use our recently added speed we'll be capable of points from anywhere on the park

If Roberts saves his maiden try in Broncos colours for Suncorp in Round 2, I hope the crowd make it memorable for him
