Round 1 Lineup

I agree with you, I like the idea of Macca at 13 or in a bench forward role. Goodness me we need someone in the middle who knows how to tackle effectively and he is by far and away the best at it. He doesn't hit and sting but he does hit and stick.
Hits and sticks and gets dragged back for 5+ metres, more often unable to deny the offload. He's a terrier at tackling, I'll give him that but he's not as effective if you look closely.
Believe it or not, Grant defends similarly. The better teams exploited the middle of the Tigers that way, but they had a sparkling attack to compensate.

I’d like to see Oates at Centre , our other options a lack a bit of size to get there head through the line . Think he would make opposition wingers nervous and have them come in . Work on his offload and defence he could be a good centre, plus he’s not taking the high balls which he’s a bit hit and miss

Or we could turn Kennar into one, already has the frame. He could be our BJ Leilua/Moses Suli - when was the last time we had a similar player one in from the wing?

Centre? He can't pass. All you'd need to do is jam in, his winger would get less ball than Fergo outside Blake.
With players like TPJ or Asiata who can both bend the line then offload or pass, I just can't see how one could possibly entertain Macca at 13.
He should be used off the bench...Ideally in QC.

He does actually tick a lot of boxes as a Bench Utility option to be honest.

With so many guys capable of big minutes Brisbane could run two Middles, a backup Dummy Half and then Oates as the Edge/Outside Back coverage off the Bench.
IMO that’s our best make up for next year.

Bring it.

Why not I say...

Dearden has the Lockyer look and playing style and what better way to learn the game from the back field. He's most likely to inject himsely into a support play or overlap than the other options cause he's a competitor.

This way you get there halves in the game and you also force him to develop his running game. It's also an unorthodox line-up to the predicted 1-17 that gets thrown up in here. I'd be excited to see that team run out.

Dearden so far hasn't really proven anything at 7 and could play 1 for a season or two before transitioning.

I really like dearden and think he can be a very good player and play an important role in a good spine but i am not really getting the lockyer or alf comparisons. He is young and still developing but from what i have seen of him to date, if i had to compare his performances to a previous broncos half, i would say he is closer to peter wallace at this time.

I hope he develops beyond that and that i am dead wrong, but i think many are wearing rose coloured glasses.

In 15 years there will be a bronze statue outside of suncorp of multi-premiership winning bronco halfback Thomas Dearden. You can take that to the bank.

I've also observed his free play work at training and he's like a touch footy player at times the way he reads defence and gets the ball to space for others. He's probably not super quick but he's tough

He could probably play Fullback, but replacing him at 7 with Croft is the major hole your making for yourself.

Dearden is good and thankfully to his immense talent he doesn't embarrass himself in 1st grade but we have to remember due to our shockingly bad squad we are putting him into first grade well before most teams would do it, he has Rep level half written all over him but I think he probably needs to beat teams to submission in QLD Cup to get the confidence to develop into what he could be.

When you see spine players break into the scene with an amazing rookie season they are generally 21-23 years old, Dearden has played in 2 seasons now and he is still only 19.

Around the same time McDonalds will have Milford order statues for the drive in?
They'll hang his jersey from the rafters ala James Harden and Houston strip clubs
