Round 10 - Broncos vs Sea Eagles - Post Match Discussion

Probably the first time I remember Reed being bested over 80 minutes by his direct opponent as you say though Coxy a lot of it is down to the 3rd man in but he was on a few occasions in no mans land. Gillett on the otherside was about 10 times worse.

Yeah but to say the loss was "purely" Parker's fault goes too far. There were other factors that contributed to us losing the game.

Normally I'd agree but not tonight ... all those 'other factors' shouldn't have mattered because the Broncos should've been up 28-20 with 90 ticks to go ...

Five tries to four - the better team lost that one

Purely Parker's fault. Purely. Anyone who disagrees does not understand the dynamics of a rugby league game. Parker's shit kicking kept Manly in the game.

nowadays when the difference between teams is so miniscule and goalkickers hit at 75% as a rule, you simply can't get away with 1 from 5 ...

argh! i've had a few too many drinks so i dont want to put any raw thoughts down here just yet. scanning through whats already become 4 pages it seems like theres a lot of hate coming from everyone already. i dont really want to add to it.

i am bitterly disappointed with that loss. we should of won, and we really should of put the game away.

personally i think there was alot to like about the way we played. there was a fair bit to dislike and im not even talking about goal kicking.

fact is, if parker kicks even 2 out of 4, manly arent even in with a shot of winning the game with 5 minutes left. the game would of already been over.

oh well...

Hoffman was pretty poor in attack. Not just lack of support, but every time he was involved in the backline it broke down. I love the bloke, but he was pretty ordinary in attack. Defensively and kick returns were superb though.

Wow, that was seriously the worst defensive effort I have seen from a Griffen coached side! Everyone was on their heals waiting for Manly to decide what they were going to do. Is Perry still available, because Hunt is seriously the worst halfback ever to play for the Broncos. He should just pass to a footballer because he isn't, and please never let him KICK EVER AGAIN. I think Capwell has played his one and only game for the Broncos. Right from the 3rd min I could tell that the Broncos were never gonna be in this game.

... who was clearly watching a different game to the rest of us ...

Agreed. However, the best fullbacks work off their halves and hooker. When Hunt and McCullough are constantly shifting around, it's much harder for him to develop that understanding. I agree completely that he needs to work harder to get better in attack, but I do think the constant shuffling of our 6,7 and 9 makes it harder for him to settle into an attacking role.

No Wallace and Hodges a late scratching - I feel a fair bit better about Brisbane's comp credentials after that game than I do about Manly's ...

To be fair, they were missing Tony Williams and Kieran Foran. I can't begin to speak about how much better Kieran Foran is than his older brother. So much so that I think maybe Mrs. Foran started having an affair after her first son.

I do agree though, there's a lot to like about our chances once we get our guns back. Let's hope they can all stay fit over Origin!

agreed - but from manlys point of view no K foran and no T williams.

no hodges really hurt us though.

No wonder our edge defence sucked - we were missing the two guys who call the shots on the right side. It's not about execution on the fringes, it's all about decision making and combinations. Without the two most experienced players, they struggled.

Great game, heart-breaking way to lose. We'll be right.

No, I was watching the game clearly, not through rose coloured glasses. Most of our tries came from kicks and were on the most part, lucky as they could have gone either way. Manly looked more likely to score every time they came within striking distance. Continuously bent our defensive line and looked more dangerous with the ball in their hands across their backline. Norman had one of his better games and we almost stole the game on the back of his play's. We lost and time to move on, but at no time did I feel like we were going to win the game, I always had the feeling that Manly were going to get there in the end.

this 100%, I dont give a **** how he ran the ball as a forward, good game, but if you are a kicker, you never do 0%, especially with the kicks he had (1/4 was actually difficult), you might aswell have Thaiday kicking them. I'd blame this lose on parker, definitely! I wouldnt say parker kept them in the game, he let them win, straight up. Thaidays 'imagainary' hand on the ball, from a down low tackle which led to a manly try in the next set was suss. You could blame a game on refs, you can blame a game on someone not tackling matai, or at 5 tries to 4 and still losing you can definately blame it on the kicker as I would

the worst part is as supporters we now we have to sit through a bye waiting to make up for a loss.

True that, but in fairness, they've had a few weeks to adjust to K.Foran's absense .. I really rate Manly, have thought they're still the team you're gonna have to beat to get your hands on the cup, but I saw a few things tonight that have me thinking they're a bit more beatable than last year's model ..

Pretty proud of the boys despite the heartbreaking finish.

Losing Wallace & Hodges the week before the match was always going to be difficult and to be behind 8-0 extremely early easily could have lead to a long evening but the boys put in & nearly ran away with it.

Not too disappointed with our defence out-wide (well at least on the right) it was to be expected with Gillett. Parker could have done better with his kicking but I'm not about to kick the cat over it.

Can't argue with any of that really.

So out of our 3 losses 2 have come from last minute tries. Just need to learn to wind the clock down better
