Re. The penalty try. There was a penalty right at the start of the play that the ref and bunker missed. Herbie was clearly tackled without the ball. It comes off his knee and ends up fortuitous for us but **** me if that wasn't the most glaring miss of the game for me..

Last comment on this game, gotta get it out of my head.

Every so often I question my own theories about the NRL and their methods, and every time something like this happens and I wonder why I ever questioned myself. At least now it seems Kevvie is also seeing things for how they really are.

Melbourne are a vital part of NRL expansion, and they're a money maker. No way were the NRL going to let this be anything less than an exciting game where Melbourne triumphed. That it was close and exciting til the end was even better for their desired <12 pt "close games" entertainment product.

The sad thing is that the NRL doesn't realise it is shooting itself in the foot by making it seem amateurish, inconsistent and with a rules system that even top professionals in the sport don't understand. It's sad.

Wow, I am proud of Kevvie with that presser, he was very careful with his words but it was clear what he was saying and he didn't pull punches. RESPECT!

I think that's the closest I've seen a Broncos coach cone to attacking officials in a post match presser.

I liked this line.

"We had 3 sin binnings tonight, were they fair sin binnings... I won't comment, because my contract isn't big enough to pay the fine "

I’ve only watched the highlights but wtf was Walters doing on Munsters try, that was absolutely pathetic

He was such a spud last night. Lots of effort but total spud.

We came away with an 8 point loss to the grubbiest grubs ever after losing Reyno. We didn’t get the W, but we are in the mix this year 100%.

Lots to improve but I’m proud of the effort from the boys.

**** me Melbourne are grubs though hey

Who said anything about the reffing being poor one way? The ref was shocking both ways and that Coates offside was questionable at best. The penalty try was also pretty dubious. However, the ref LITERALLY called out Storm players for being offside MULTIPLE times and then said player makes a tackle and it is play on.

6-1 in six agains plus 3 sin bins to 1 has a massive bearing on the result, there is no two ways about that. That isn't squarely blaming the ref but it had a massive bearing on the game.

Not to mention the play on call from a quick tap, only to call it back as soon as Billy put Walsh away

We didn’t get a penalty for twenty minutes in the second half, Melbourne had like five. Our six agains were bullshit first tackles, Melbournes were last tackle piggy backs.
Should be allowed to point this out as a coach as it is fact.

It is all pretty funny though, the NRL basically has a free shot at the Melbourne market tonight. No Thursday AFL game for one of the few weeks this happens per year and you have the exciting ladder leaders and also most supported league team in town. What a time to showcase this fast game the NRL us all supposed to be about. Instead we come away with an overly long piece of garbage that I doubt anyone anywhere enjoyed.

Yeah Melbourne got the win but that game was putrid and would have not won any new fans whatsoever. Imagine trying to explain 90% of those decisions to a noob. I’d just be throwing my hands in the air and saying ‘Who on earth knows?’

As James Graham would say, ‘Who are we trying to cater for?’ Speaking of which, what’s happened to that guy, sadly haven’t seen him on Fox at all and he was their one shining light.
This is a great point. Imagine you are an NRL fan in Melbourne and you have talked it up to your AFL mates to give it a go and chose to use that game as a showcase. You would just be like “sorry yeah I get it, enjoy the AFL guys”.

This to me was the biggest example of rorting. The ref would have known the best and safest option was to let it play because it would be reviewed as a try and if they were in front denied. The fact that he stopped it only once we were in the clear showed that little ginger nuts couldn’t run the risk that we were all behind.

Doesn’t make sense. Why would they specifically construct a win against the broncos but let them get beaten by the horrible bulldogs and manly or flogged by the bunnies.

The refereeing was abysmal but it seemed more incompetence than Machiavellian

Only two of those were at Melbourne and that was the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs who the NRL (and their best man, Gus) are trying to drag out of the shit pile they've found themselves in.

The other, is the Rabbitohs, and they're a darling club of the NRL right now.

I did not say I know the whole playbook of the NRL, but I am very certain that Melbourne will be assisted to a top 8 position for this and many years to come.

The Broncos are successful enough to flounder against Melbourne. But they would put on a show either way.

Gtfo of here.
It's not the loss to the Storm you merkin, it's the state of the game.

I've had enough of it. I've been a Bronco supporter since 88 and today I walk away from the game, not because I have stopped loving the broncos, but because these fuckwits who run the game have ruined it.

Now carry on being a clown and talking rubbish.

I wouldn’t be wanting to quit after a loss. We have had way worse losses than that last night. But deadset if Carrigan gets so much as a fine let alone a suspension people should be done. I’m all for player safety but it’s a literal contact sport, occasionally things will happen. Patty did his absolute best not to hip drop hi, he succeeded and still gets sent for 10.

Another thing I had to laugh at was the commentators saying that NAS was injured cause he limped off. Don’t you get a free interchange due to ‘foul play’? So of course he went off and was still milking the contact.

Missed the second half but from what I could tell, Melbourne had consistently better line speed than us. Some will say they were offside and/or assisted by the refs but I think they are just coached better. Our defence has been shit lately and that's what lost us the game.

If that’s the case and we are consistently slower…why are WE getting pinged 6–1 for going too early? A bit of a contradiction No?

I’ll say it, they were offside all night. They are coached to test the ref because history tells them they will get away with it.
