I'm going to chime in early, well I already have, and say that Stagg's will end up back in the centres within a handful of games at 6.

He can be truly elite in the centres if he works on his defence I just dont see the transition lasting.
I'm inclined to say the same but I guess that Kevvie must have seen something he likes, so how viable anyone views the move is probably based on how much faith they have in Kevvie as a Coach.

It's a good post I just want to ask why Milf was never afforded this or an organising halfback? Everyone wants him on the scrap heap, and fair enough based on form, but as I've said ad nauseum he's had to do everything by himself for three years, no wonder he's a wreck.

We finally get a 7 worth a pinch of shit and we're going to try and manufacture a 6 out of a centre.
One reason - $$$$$$

Staggs and Reynolds combined will cost us under $1.5 million - potentially around $1.4 million.

Milford alone wanted his million, so when you only have $400-500k left you get what you can afford - eg Nikorima and Brodie Croft.

If you're going to spend a million bucks alone on a spine player, it has to be an absolutely elite one that CAN literally do most of the work themselves - Smith, Thurston, Cronk, DCE etc.

Milford is just not in this class of player and likely never will be.

Staggs is a genuine heads up footy player
He won’t fail next year at 6 with Reynolds there by his side as he just has to play his natural game which is run first. He will excel at 5/8 similar to wighton and walker

Latest:

Piakura has a bad case of the trots and KHunt buggered his knee playing for the Magpies so neither look good to start against the Roosters. KHunt is still a chance to replace Milford, but if not, the cards favour Albert Kelly. Kobe Hetherington will come in for Jordan Riki. Mead in for Oates.

We might've seen Milford's last game for the Brisbane Broncos.

I think Staggs will be a success at 6. Can he pass? I have no idea. Can be long kick? I think so but that won’t be his role, that’s one of the reasons for bringing in Reynolds. Can he short kick? Yes he has shown that a few times already. Can he drop goal? Yes as he does it semi-regularly at training. Can he defend? No but halves aren’t always expected to and this is why you need a Su’A or Capewell or TPJ to protect him. Can he run? Goodness me yes and imagine that popping up all over the field! He’ll be destructive and can learn to pass and kick when needed. But that running and fending all over the place, what a weapon!
I still don't see him being a success but hopefully he will. Biggest thing he has to deal with is having forwards running at him and the defensive load that brings. He doesn't get that at center. He also is going to have to try to get his running game going in the middle of the field rather than on an edge.

Strap yourselves in, Kev’s wild ride is amping up a notch.

Hetherington playing Lock, SR or bench?

Kelly's the right call, has been classy in Q Cup and is setting up try's. Why recruit these guys if you aren't going to play them and reward them for form. Lots of chopping and changing but might as well get a good feel for what everyone has to offer before you sign/re-sign players. The years a write off anyway so have a look at what players will offer at NRL level.

We just keep throwing halves at the wall to see what sticks & then wonder why we can't find form. If this is a sign of things to come Staggs won't last long at 6 next year...

Stupid stupid, don't drop your halves, let them have time to develop a partnership. Why drop Oates? He's been very good for us since he's come back to first grade.

Kev doesn't seem to have any sort of plan, all very reactive. Not liking what I see

Accountability is one thing, but it's not exactly conducive to playing with confidence when the coach has very little belief in you & each week there's a different bloke running the show and you have to understand how he plays & form new combinations.

Both our wingers were pathetic on the weekend against manly

Your telling me, I turned off half way through the game, and only half watched the first half

I should mention, I do take your point I and agree if Milf was prepared to take a VERY significant pay cut, he may have been worth persevering with alongside Reynolds. The problem is, he's probably not going to want to stick around for $300k or so, which at this point would be the most the Broncos could probably afford to pay him. I'm not saying other clubs wouldn't bite at $400-500k, but right now I'm fine with us not being one of them.

I suspect a change of scenery will be best for both parties now. Too much damage has been done. Kevvie's obviously seen the potential and heavily backed Milford in the past, even at Origin level. If he's not willing to back him now then it probably tells us a lot about what he's seeing from Milford from an attitude perspective, which lets face it, is what most of his critics have long suspected is the problem.

Agree with you about the halves. A Gamble-Kelly combo scares the shit out of me. Oates has been poor, it's clear that his top flight footy days are numbered.

That must be the end of Milford. Not sure why Oates got dropped? Everyone gets burned by Saab when he has that kind of space.
I'm not sure why people are saying this?

There is next to no chance that we won't have more injuries, guys out of form, selection chopping and changing and more of Milford. This is the Broncos we're talking about.

Milf should be looking for a transfer this season, he's not going to earn a solid contract moving forward playing for reggies.

I agree, but again, the issue is $$$. He's too expensive, especially in this final year of this contract, for anyone to take him on.

What would Brisbane gain out of releasing him and only getting a couple of hundred grand back at this point and still carrying most of the million dollar expense?
