No doubt his effort has been there but he still makes the mistake of jamming in at exactly the wrong time and he is slow as ****. Mead was doing a good job of making metres before he was dropped I thought.
Also, every half in the comp would have noted how easy it is to get his winger away because Oates can't turn and accelerate. I can see why Kev dropped him.

I think his pay is a bit irrelevant now. We are stuck with our salary cap for 2021. I dont think he's been poor at all really. He gives us good starts to our sets but he isnt the player he was at the same time. Mead was just as poor with his defence. I'd actually say Oates has been fairly solid in most of his games.

I agree but the issue then is we're normally down by 20+ when he gets on the field and the game is basically over.

He's probably not quite ready yet to be a regular.

I think you’re right to an extent. I think Kev is throwing shit at a wall and hoping at least one of these duds shows some ability before Staggs returns so they can partner him for the rest of the season. Might have been why he gave Levi 55 minutes. He’s trying to find the best spine to drop Staggs into for this season.

I know people keep saying Staggs for 5/8 like Staggs is already the complete thing but there's no way in hell I'd want him organising a team without proving he could be a good 5/8 in the ISC. That's where I'd play him for at least 6 weeks and even then I'd make sure he only got 40-50 mins for ar least the first 3 weeks before ramping up to a full game.

I don't want to hear 'he's had a full preseason" in the new role. I'd rather he learns the ropes, trys all the different skills out and has an onfield partner who has extensive experience as a 5/8. I'm hopeful the forgotten man, Ash Taylor is ringing KW and letting him know he's still got it. I mean, if we're auditioning people and KHunt at 49 gets an audition we aren't setting the bar too high! Love to hear we picked up Taylor as depth for 400k. I reckon there's still value in that fella.

To be honest, absolutely honest I've always had a higher opinion of Taylor than Milford. Truthfully, I have never been a fan, even at his best. It's not a race thing and certainly not a personality thing and I genuinely don't know what it is but I just didn't see what others saw. I thought he was just another Sandow only he didn't make me laugh! I even thought he wasn't as fierce as Sandow!

Yes, Croft. I don't believe they ever gave Croft that much and thought he was 350-400 at the Broncos. Nevertheless he's here. I know it seems extravagant but if the Broncos got Taylor for 400k I think he'd end up being great value and we do only have Croft for one more year. Hey, why not ask the Titans if we can straight swap? They get Brodie boy in 22, we hire Taylor. Nice.

I dont think it would matter actually. IF his Broncos contract is worth a lot more then anywhere else he will stay here.

It would be the lazy option for him. His price is dropping by the day and another whole season in Q cup would drop him to basically minimum wage. Cartwright took the risk with giving up his big contract and going to Parra and it might have saved his career.

Personally I’d like to see how young Paix goes at his original position at half back. I think he would surprise a lot of people with his acceleration but maybe not his defence. I’d also like to see the young centre Tasi from the bulldogs have a run as well. I think he would do well.

No one will go near 500k for Oates but we would get someone to pay 300k, so is it worth it to get him off the books to chip that in? If he isn't in the plans, then probably. I feel sad though because I always liked the big lug and he didn't deserve to be dropped this week.

He seems to be trying everyone out. He brought Levi on early last week for some mysterious reason, and left him on for some other mysterious reason he wouldn't answer in the presser. Whatever the reason, and whatever he uncovered about Levi, he saw enough to flick him back to the reserves.

I get the impression Kevvie is doing a test drive of everyone on the roster to see who he can turf out.

Yet Xavier Coates who had a deadset shocker against Manly - and who he doesn't need to test drive - keeps his place.

I agree, seems like that. One of my concerns is that we need to start winning soon. One alternative is too horrible to contemplate.

And Kevvie may have been telling the truth before he realised he was when he said it wasn’t worth putting Jake back on when the game was gone (Turps also says he was due to go back on until the double sin bin, so I don’t know) until he changed the story and said it was to give Levi minutes. And it was probably a good break for Jake as he’d have tackled himself to a standstill again so hopefully he can be a bit more up for the Roosters game
