PRE-GAME Round 12 - Broncos vs Sharks

Few different ideas, I would have thought a few teams might have taken on the Walker strategy of training on game day. They do their last session three hours before kick off so players get up and moving and aren't sitting around doing nothing which given they're sitting around doing not much from 12 on game day this might be worth a shout.
I like it, I Didn’t know they did that and it makes a ton of sense to me. great way to mentally prepare the squad instead of just waiting to do a standard warm up all day. The more you talk about the walkers the more I like.

Cronulla will be without Dugan and Ramien for the encounter.

Jackson Ferris will make his debut at centre, with Siosifa Talakai set to take up the other centre position.

Former Storm junior and Sunshine Coast product Braydon Trindall is set to make his debut as well. The first time I saw Trindall was in the U/16s Grand Final against Townsville playing along former Broncos U/20s hooker Tyson Smoothy. It ended up being a great game as well, it's nice to see a player hit the big time 5 years on.

I've still got my fingers crossed for Smoothy. He was on a train and trial deal with the Panthers before that fell through. He was back with the Falcons before the QCup season was called off. A shame because with some seasoning, he could be a good option for a number of clubs - including the Broncos.

I just realised the Broncs and Lions are on at the same time, I might not be in the live thread sorry.

Sharks are vulnerable here, missing Fifita, Moylan, Townsend, Dugan, Ramien.

I've tipped us with a fair bit of confidence tbh, I think this is the week we start to steady the ship.

Your optimism is to be commended mate. Or is it wishful thinking?

We tend to lift against the Sharks regardless of how we're playing. We haven't lost to them since 2016.

I think having both Turpin and Staggs back in the side and Boyd at the back would be good for us. Turpin would be chomping at the bit to get out there and help try to turn things around, that could be infectious.

I like Luke on the bench. During his time in the starting hooker role, he has been making a lot of darts out of dummy half to try and gain momentum. Doing that against a tired defence could be beneficial for us.

Dearden and Milf did well in the halves together last year. Having Dearden there seemed to take a lot of pressure off Milford. So I can understand why Paix wasn't picked. Go with what you know and hope for the best.

In saying that, confidence is at an all time low so it's difficult to get a read on things. They could just as easily continue on as they have been.

Don't think it's either tbh, it's realism. We've got too much talent on this roster to continue to play as shit as we have been, there's going to be a curve in the road where we start to get back on track, I think it'll be this week.
Hope so, but from being a firm believer in giving Pies at least two years to sort the place out I've changed to the mindset of as long as he's here we're stuffed.

Agreed.
Talking to my wife earlier (well, she was pretending to listen whilst I rambled on), I said I think we can win this.
Mathematically we are still a chance of the 8, realistically though not really.
But I think this is the week we start to turn things around.
If we can then string a few wins together, we might save some face for the season and who knows, maybe scrape into the 8.
That would be a success, given all the hurdles and catastrophes we’ve had this year.
It all has to start this week though.
🤞

It will come down to our attitude... as it has for years now... yes even in 2018 under Bennett our attitude was poor and constantly getting beaten against teams we were meant to beat.

Sharks don't really play an up tempo game to begin with and now they have injuries across their backs... so even at full strength our forwards are better and now they are weaker in their backs.

If sharks are to win it will likely be SJ... he's the only threat left in their side!!

This game may end up being similar to the warriors game where the warriors were there for the taking before the game started, then they played poorly for the first 30mins... but because we didn't finish them off one try got them on track and we never got out of second gear.... The difference in this game may be that we are playing at home rather than away so our attitude should be improved.

This game will be there for the taking in the first 20mins, which is why I would prefer TPJ at prop... he'd completely dominate their forward pack and get us on top early... whichever half is on TPJ's side of the field MUST get him involved in the game early.

I suspect that Dearden will be playing right side this week ... and if that happens it will be yet more shenanigans with making changes week to week and indecision on what the team looks like when fully fit... Dearden plays left side when Milf's at FB, next week let's bring Milf back into the halves and chuck Dearden onto the other side of the field. Is Dearden the starting half or is he filling in until the other guys come back... or does he still not know who he wants in the halves...

Haven't lost to the Sharks since 2016? Well that is ending tomorrow night, another record to fall.

Sorry, it takes a lot for me to care but I’m morally against that. **** Ben Barba.
What are your thoughts on lodge?

You only call it a confidence session if there’s a lack of confidence to begin with.

This bloke is a straight up fucking joke

Eh, wasn’t a huge fan to begin with but didn’t think his crime was so bad that a second chance should be completely off the table. to his credit his behaviour has done a lot to repair my perception of him, to his discredit his form has reversed some of that repair.

I agree with most of what you say. I also think that Wade Graham is a real threat. He's good backrower who runs hard and good lines, and has a good offload. He will be dangerous close to our line.

As for Dearden on the right, the last time he was on the right side with Milford, they combined well. It would be good to see them both on one side. Also, some wrap around plays to make the extra man.If Boyd can lift, he would be effective in sweep plays. Staggs with lots of good ball should tear them apart on the edge.

If the attitude is there for the full 80 minutes which is a big ask given past performances, then broncos by 12+. Really looking forward to this.
