I don't think Seibs had any other choice but to swallow his pride and select Boyd at fullback. He went with the back-up, the rookie, the experiment and none of them worked. It's the toughest position in the game and in this situation it's best to go with the devil you know. Darius will allow the Broncos to play a more expansive brand of footy and I expect Darius to respond well to the shift.
One massive in for the Broncos is the return of Jake Turpin. Jake has been sorely missed since he broke his leg against the Eels and he will make a big difference in the ruck. I think it's unfortunate for Paix and believe he should have been given the opportunity to fail, but I agree that the Broncos should manage his work-load heading into 2021. The Broncos have these senior players here to help them out during this tough time, I'd use them and let the younger players develop at their own pace.
Speaking of, I'm happy to see Bullemor back. Given the roles Ofahengaue and Kennedy have played in recent weeks against the Tigers and Storm respectively, I felt he could have easily been given that game time just to get a feel for the middle. I like what I've seen from him. Like a lot of young forwards he needs to develop his fitness so he can have more involvement, but that's what that 15-20 minute mid-second half interchange is for.
I'd be looking to bring Riki in for a game or two before the season is over. He's a quality prospect and I believe he could play a role in digging the Broncos out of this situation. I'd be looking to bring him in for Bullemor and giving him those minutes later on in the game just to get a feel and a sense of confidence heading into 2021.
