POST GAME Round 12 - Broncos vs West Tigers

As an aside, it's amazing how terrible the refereeing in league is when you compare it against Union and other professional sports. Officials in other sports enforce the rules to the letter, whereas NRL refs, apart from going backwards in quality, just decide how they're going to ref based on the clock or other factors that shouldn't weigh into making a decision. Some of the calls tonight were either flat our incompetent or cowardly/ influenced.

What a bludger of a game. Both sides were trying their best to lose it in that last 10 minutes. Hunt has so much dumb football in him and it just keeps on surfacing and Mild has hit the ground hard in the last few games. Not putting a line through us yet but we need to improve big time following origin to give ourselves a decent shot.

C'mon, take two players out of either teams backline and four of their forwards and how well do you think they will play?

You can't win them all Sharknado and the NRL is proof of that.

what I'm talking about goes beyond tonight .. while most of the world has been blowing smoke up the broncos' ass this year, some people have recognised that what they're actually doing on the field doesn't justify the hype

Hunt was bad, Milford was shit. Our forward pack got severly dominated though, that was the main reason we lost.
I think that's a fair summary. We had a rookie forward pack and it showed.

The Tigers made easy metres while our defensive line waited for them. We did this last year and I am guessing it was the plan again due to the number of younglings in the side.
Hunt was pretty busy tackling as they were coming at him pretty often. Kicking for territory is more effort than putting up a bomb or cross kick to Maranta. I think Hunt was tempted to run it on the last like he did against the roosters as he knows he is a poor drop kicker. He isn't great kicker in general.
Each of the forwards showed glimpses of potential but it didn't tell together. Pangai looked very promising but as soon as he made an impact he was off the field.

To put tonight in perspective, we went undefeated through the origin period last year. The only difference between this year and last year is Oates is missing.

The fact our halves can't do something as simple as set up for a field goal is a worry. So is the fact that our halfback is COMPLETELY incapable of kicking a field goal.

I agree, we should never have been given any premiership hype, but premierships aren't won in Round 12 just ask the Cowboys.

I'll be waiting until much later in the season before I truly assess our premiership creds.

Exactly, I've found it hard to be happy with the games we've won so far this year with so much bad football involved. We can't play brilliantly every week but they have a lot of bad habits creeping in and they don't seem to be improving

And of course the masterminds at NRL HQ are kind enough to give us a match in NZ next Sat, can't see many of our Origin players backing up for that one.

On paper we should have won but we didn't. Seen it before and we'll see it again. It's a long season and I think it's far from the disaster some would make it out to be. There are definitely worrrying signs. Overall they didn't look particularly sharp tonight - wayward passes, bad options, stupid mistakes. Neither Hunt or Milford played well, and it's a concern that neither of them seems to want to do the organisation. I feel like some of the blame for that may lie with Bennett though. Has he started coaching attack yet? Or is he still concerned with defense?

I thought Wallace played really well, and Pangai, Arrow and Su'A all did some nice things. I'm really liking the depth we have in the forwards at the moment. The backs might be another matter.

I was hoping this week would be a big win to help build some confidence and momentum. But that's okay, let's just make it next week instead.

But make sure they turn the videos off before the post-game interviews because I like how our players have an ounce of humility when we lose. At least they accept responsibility. Or maybe they should watch them? Years of whinging has sure as hell helped the Cowboys.

Agreed.

On another note, it's not the loss, it's the way we lost which irks me, and sorry, but I also don't accept the excuses of our missing Origin players. Sure they would have made a difference specifically in holding the middle, but still, for mine, we had the team to win this.

What bothers me the most is the lack of combination, the lack of control shown by our halves. They are in fact showing me they are both opportunists more than what halves should be: opportunists yes, but more importantly, as central to a spine, they have to have forged a combination which controls the game with passing, kicking and communication, working as a unit and not simply skilled individuals who get lucky every once in a while. There was no organisation out there for most of the match. That is what I find the most disappointing - the way we lost ... not that we lost.

Some of you blokes are bordering on apologists...this is not good enough from the Broncos!

Milf has been playing crap the last few weeks - Hunt even worse. What chance does the team have with the 6 and 7 playing like this...I'm hoping Milf will get back into form and inspire Hunt and they will become potent once again.

Hunt's kicking game is shit..agreed? One or two kicks a game to set up a try is not good enough...kid needs some consistency, or we will not win (the comp) until he is gone. Simple as that.

Should have won this by plenty - non rep players did not stand up. It happens. But if it happens again, I'll be worried.

I'm off this. We were the real deal last year but choked. I get the feeling were pretending this year.... And it's not even this loss... Apart from the Knights game we haven't stamped any authority...disjointed attack, average defence and plenty of errors. By the time we scrape through this notorious period we will be under serious pressure to stay in the 8. Even with our origin players I can't see how we win tonight with the state our halves are in. I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom, just haven't seen much from this so called comp favourite side.

We were missing nearly our entire forward pack, our fullback (that just so happens to be the Australian and QLD fullback) and our best winger.

Get a fucking grip.

Blair didn't once look he tried to lift the team. No one was talking, no enthusiasm, heads down, sulky attitude. The senior players needed to lead from the front tonight and lead the way, create some excitement and energy and encouragement for the younger players to feed off but most of them just didn't look interested. They didn't look hungry. If Hunt and Milford want to get to the top level they need to stop collecting mental baggage during games. One or two things go wrong and Hunt seems to just drop his bundle and the head goes down, he stops communicating and gets the shits. It all sort of snowballs from there. He does have the ability he just ha to get his head right. It really looks like it's rubbing off on the rest of the side.
