POST GAME [Round 13, 2023] Broncos vs Warriors

❤❤❤

That Sailor try saver where he got his hand under the ball was epic. Really set the scene for our defence in that first half, by all rights we should have had 18 put on us. In the first quarter.

there was a moment early in the match where they effected a one on one strip on us, Sutton incorrectly called it a penalty and the warriors tried to challenge straight away and Sutton wouldn’t let them. I bring this up because he’s not bias, just incompetent.

I really noticed the lack of Walsh’s speed.

The club is culpable too.

We basically gave him a contract that screamed "congrats kid, you've made it".

When in fact you've achieved jack-shit. When that happens you get tonight's performance.

Our worst contract. Said as much for 2 years.
His contract was a knee jerk reaction.

We had just lost walsh and the bulldogs were going hard for piakura. The narrative in the media was that the broncos were losing their junior talent. We overpaid in panic.

Piakura always struck me as that talented junior who dominated in the junior grades because he was bigger and faster than the kuds he played against. He never has had to try hard and didn't develop the traits required in first grade when others are just as big and fast.

It was a penalty because he has already called held, not because he thought it was a 2 man tackle.

It was a strip after held called... Warren Smith was just useless and kept going on about his own narrative

I think his biggest issue has just been disruptions and not being able to get consistent game time in lower grades.

He's a victim of Covid where the reserve competitions were on hold for like 2yrs, just when he needed them to start learning his craft... then he copped some injuries at the wrong time.

Sounds like he's been better in Qcup this year, but didn't have a great game today... looked a deer in headlights at times.

I liked the rotation of Capewell into the middle and Piakura onto the edge... only because it meant we actually used the 17th bloke in the team for once!!

The NRL should come out and speak up against the NZ crowd tonight. Ruining a game and running into the field numerous times is just not on. The game was still well and truely in the balance as they could have ruined it for everyone. Take more games away from them

I think Willison and Mariner will be in the team next year when Fleger and Herbie leave, they look they will be very good players.

Even though Willison gave away a couple of penalties, he had some great hit ups and that pull to Paix was so go to watch and almost led to a try.

After tonights efforts is it fair to offer Sailor a contract? He makes a excellent second string to Walsh and probably wouldn't go too bad being a back up to Mam aswell. Could probably also slot In on the wing

I think we'd love to have him, but might end up the same as TMM, where he's just too good to be sitting behind others and will get a deal elsewhere.

Put that finish all on Staggs head. The rot started when being a lazy shit he let the ball bounce and tried to trap it with his foot instead of making the effort to catch it on the full. 2 one on one misses on his opposite number and we were only saved by some dumb play from one of the Warriors unnecessarily holding Mariner back.

Walters and Paix have again swapped as good/bad players. Paix had a good game and Walters was back to his headless chook play from dummy half. He made one run from dummy half that was good and the rest were just a waste of a tackle. Walters has to stop trying to go high in defence when he's the first defender. He's too small and the big Warrior forwards were just carting him up the field at will.

I though Sailor was possibly our best player and great games by Jensen, Reynolds, Maam and Riki.

Staggs defence was just abysmal all through the game like his head was somewhere else tonight.

I don't Think Sutton is biased he's just a very, very ordinary ref. Some of the calls we got early in the game were just plain wrong and same with some of the calls that went the Warriors way after that.

Getting a win over the in form Warriors at home and missing our Origin players is huge. Getting them at this time instead of a bye or one of the other Origin weakened teams year after year after year smells fishy.
Paix had a good game? Wahh. Paix was wet blanket again in defence. Soon as walters comes off our middle turns to butter
