POST GAME [Round 13, 2023] Broncos vs Warriors

Shout out to Kurt Capewell.

Bar a few magic moments, his performances this season have been substandard - but tonight, I think he was one of our best. Really stepped up with our triumvirate of big boppers missing.
yeah he did...i was bagging him the other day but credit where due, great game

Awesome win, we defended so well for most of the game. They came back sure, but we are playing away with 6 of our best players down against a full squad that's been good all season. Unreal victory.

I've had that marked down as a loss since the draw was announced, so it was a huge effort to walk away with the two points. They were beaten in most stats categories but they just kept turning up.

The play that stood out to me was half-way through the second half. Sutton forgot he could call held and everyone was getting dragged back. Then Herbie from dummy half finds his front, Jensen drags them about 15m and it saved a horror set.

Thankfully Brisbane remembered that Sutton never calls strips. At least they took something out of the 2015 GF...

I thought the senior forwards really paved the way. Palasia, Walters, Jensen, Capewell, Riki and Kobe all had their best game of the season & Taupau was strong off the bench. Piakura and Willison are still green, but they had some nice involvements as well and I wouldn't give up on them yet either.

The last seven minutes didn't shock me at all. I'd like to see that short kick off again, Reynolds seemed confident there was a knock on but that's one limitation of the challenge and an occasion where it would be handy.

It didn't go their way and the Warriors were always going to be dangerous. I was in total shock when Montoya crossed for his second. I thought Mariner & Sailor had it covered then it seemed like somebody unplugged the controller and suddenly Montoya was over. It was so weird that something had to have happened and while it's one of those bunker calls it was right and Mariner 100% did the right thing. I think if he made an honest attempt there's a chance the bunker clears it. Mariner carrying on sold it.

Reynolds makes a huge difference and he just got better as the game wore on. When the game was there for the taking, he stood up and got it done. That play for Mam was class and he was unlucky not to have a try to his name.

We truly are a top 4 team this year and with a full strength side we would've put some points on tonight. Sailor played well and managed to restrain himself from doing any dumb qcup shit. Mariner is a real prospect and when he puts on some weight he'll be unstoppable. Willison good, Marty good, Jensen good. Walters and Paix are each half a player and when they combine you get one decent hooker. Best game I've seen a halfback play possibly all season from Reynolds, the speeding up, slowing down combined with dummies and elite kicking was great to watch. The last ten minutes sucked but alot or that was inexperience. Oh and we are gonna miss Herbie.

maybe miss Herbie..
or we adapt move on and be better. not diminishing Herbie..but isee a good future

Paix had a good game? Wahh. Paix was wet blanket again in defence. Soon as walters comes off our middle turns to butter
Paix had a decent game for a change. Gave crisp service out of dummy half. His defence was ok.

Keep him for what? He'll be looking for a regular gig and someone may come calling before the June 30 cut off. Seb Kris went down tonight, maybe Canberra will seek his services. More than likely, he will see out the season before signing elsewhere in 2024.

What did you make of Capewell shifting into the middle, Pete? Potential as a long term strategy to bring Piakura into first grade next season?

Definitely felt like better value out of Capewell

Jesus, he's played 5 career games and all of a sudden he's going to be our next HB. If only rugby league was that easy. He's a natural FB who will be hoping for a regular first grade berth in the future. Unfortunately, that won't occur at Red Hill.
