Round 13 - Broncos vs Knights - Post Match Discussion

How many times this season have the broncos opened up an early, seeemingly match winning, lead only to let their opposition back in to the contest. I think this is very worrying come finals time. The broncos seem to either have games where they attack really well, or defend really well, but rarely are they in the same game.

Newcastle are hardly a litmus test for attack or defence. That's what is worrying. SHould have been 70 nil

I reckon Norman has a serious ego problem. He needs to learn to pass the ball and position his supports

i get the feeling he soaked up a little too much of the praise that was thrown his way after the first few weeks of the season ..

I was far from sold on him before the season started but he did surprise me in the first two months ...

Can't believe McGuire only got 27 minutes.

gotta love this forum sometimes haha.

anyway. pretty disappointing to let them back into the game.

its been said already, our attack is so flat. so often there is just nothing doing and the play is so predictable it hurts. we're lucky their defense was woeful to run in so many tries. a couple good spreads late in the game - whats that? the ball actually got to our wingers with time to move! but apart from that- stale ol attack for the most part. we wont beat the better teams unless we do more with the ball. and sort out this defense problem.

though hoffman showed glimpses of the support play we need from him. more of that!. he's absolutely rock solid at the back though. very assured catching the bomb.

ive been a bit worried about reed for a few weeks now.

will take the win but a lot of work to be done.

also how good is sunday footy at suncorp. i wish there were more sunday games for us.

Basically we came out and scored some EASY tries and were outscoring the time piece. At 24 nil after 23 minutes we were all thinking 07 again and another 70+ score, and the players are/were not immune to the same thinking. I am glad they got their heads back in it and got the result but we all know Hook will be putting a rocket up them. It is one of the problems with having such a youthful squad. Negatives for me are our defence in the middle 3rd. Gillett as much as i love the guy has been missing in defence and attack. On his last few games he doesnt get a maroon gernsey.

Good to get back in the winners list, agree Gillett was ordinary in D. He didn't look interested from the time he came on. Maybe he is getting a little comfortable within himself and just becoming a little lazy combined with coming on at 24 nil. Whatever the reason he looks like he wants to do the flashy stuff and not the hard work.

I think Norman is trying to play more to his outside lately and has stopped taking the ball to the line, he is still on a big learning curve and will have patches like this. He will find the balance between running and servicing his outside men eventually. It was good to see Hodgo get some early ball though.

This is Hooks biggest test to date IMO, managing the young stars and expectation of success compared to last year where we were considered to be overachieving. He also needs to make a decision on Macca playing out the game.

We are still in this comp up to our ears though, can't quite understand why anyone would think otherwise.

Incredibly disappointing defence in the red zone, anytime they got into the 10m we looked disorganised and vulnerable. And that's been a theme lately.

I'm not too worried about our attack, it works well enough.

And I do agree that Norman has regressed a bit, I can't believe he died with the ball on the last tackle when the team was about 15m out. Hope he stops over thinking and plays his natural game more.

it really feels like this is what is happening with him some times. plenty on here jump at the chance to hate on him but i back the kid.

Gillett missed six tackles! I love the fella, but geez that's poor.

I'm also starting to get a little worried about Jack's Reed's in defence (lolololol). Today wasn't the first time he's made a poor read and conceded a soft try. Last season he was an extremely reliable defender for us, so it's a bit of a surprise to see him getting done up increasingly often. I think he lacks faith in Copley and it's causing him to be indecisive.

The problem starts one in from him... Norman's decisions in d are just atrocious. It's influencing the rest of the left side.

Yeah, but Gillett actually deserves to get bagged this week. Still can't quite believe how bad his defence was.

Agreed. But I didn't think Norman was THAT bad. Not his best game by any stretch but his general play kicking was pretty good I thought. Could've shown more in attack but we still scored 8 tries.

Hodges was outstanding. Showed how much we missed him last week.

The back 3 all had great games. Was probably Copley's best performance so far in his career. Hoffman responded to his critics. Outstanding under the high ball and good support play up the middle.

I'd also say that was Petero's best game so far this season. That big run in the lead-up to Thaiday's try really set us off for the final part of the game.
