Round 13 Discussion

Bellamy said on the radio this arvo that Slater had a long way to go but he'd rather have money on him playing than not.

Just watched a replay of the Eels vs Cowboys game, Hayne is a dirty bastard.

He had every intention of taking out Morgan, he wasn't even looking at the ball. He did it in Game 1, also.

I am hoping the refs put a stop to it.

I'll admit that I'm a Hayne apologist, however when you're chasing a bomb (from >20 metres or so out) the ball is pretty much directly above your head. You can't judge where it is if you're running full pelt. The only thing you can do is judge it by the opposition's positioning & timing. Hayne simply got there too early and just jumped in hope.

... Which is illegal. You can only play for the ball. Sure, you can bork the player, but what Hayne did to Morgan was so blatant. He'll get binned for it shortly.

It's illegal when it goes wrong, yes.

The problem is it's becoming a habit.

Okay, he does it once at Origin, I can understand the emotion of the evening just completely throwing him off.

But the one on Morgan was blatant. How many other players do you see at this level blow it as badly as Hayne? Also, are we going to suggest that Hayne is that inept he miss-timed it as poorly as he did? Or that it was the second game in a row in which this has happened?

Sorry, can't buy that at all. It isn't a dog play or anything but it's a bit like Billy crane kicking people in the face.

I haven't watched the game since it was live, but IIRC he had to cover a bit of ground to get there. He would have been close to full pace so you can't just pause for a second and then jump. I remember at the time it was worth a penalty but I didn't see anything that made me think it was an attempt at foul play. Looked like he was competing for the ball but just timed it wrong. I'll look at it again though.

I don't even remember Hayne looking up for the ball. He just ran to where Morgan was and jumped blindly. If you don't try and find the ball with your eyes you aren't intending to compete for it.

Half way through the season, and the top 6 all have 8 wins. The top 3 just have a bye on top. At this rate, for & against will be a huge factor.

. I sure hope you're not talking about the one on Morgan. Hayne did not once look at, or for the ball. He had his eyes on Morgan, ran straight at him, then deliberately smashed him while he was trying to catch the ball.

I never said he looked at the ball. I said he was competing for it. As i said above, often it's impossible to get eyes on it and you have to judge it by the opposition's jump. There were two identical by the Broncos tonight FTR. Copley's that led to the try, and another one a bit later (Maybe the one for McGuire's try). Again, running off memory, but they all timed their jumps to match the opposition as opposed to watching the ball themselves. In fact it's only when they're up there competing that they have the luxury of trying to sight the ball. Too late then if your timing is out.

If you look at the video Morgan hadn't even jumped when Hayne leapt into him. There's no way in the world Hayne was ever aiming to get the ball in that situation.

IMO it was just bad timing.

Only to begin with. He knows full well he's timed his run poorly and instead of pulling out like he could, he decides to try and get away with running into Morgan. I've no doubt it's a very conscious decision on his part to try and take out or interfere with the player because he knows he's not catching it.

Looking further at the ladder, the 4-6 have better f/a than 1-3 (who are only 1-3 because of byes). And we are actually second only to the Roosters for points scored. Nobody saw that coming...

Them already having a bye means they have an extra game to get further in front of us.
