POST GAME Round 13 - Warriors vs Broncos

It looked to me as though it's a bit of both but Hunt should simply have tackled his man and trusted others to do the same. That close to the line and having had our pants pulled down by that player previously should have been enough to know what's required. Take your man and let the cards fall as they may.

I agree he should have had a better crack than what he did. But do you think he scores if Gillette was there?

Shaun Johnson 8m out without Hunt getting a hand on him?

Thaiday (via a stupid kick from Hunt) put the Broncos in that position with a pot plant penalty, but he was never a chance of making that tackle. Even Gillett wouldn't have stopped Johnson from there. Hunt had to hold Johnson up on his run and he failed to do so.

Also what did su'a do wrong last week to not keep his spot, i thought his defence was sensational.

He played like an 18 year old.

As eager as he was, defensively he struggled to contain the Tigers. At this level, it isn't good enough to just make the tackle. Your contact has to be good to help win the ruck. Su'A understandably was lacking in that department.

In my opinion maranta and thaiday lost us that game. Most of the tries conceded are because of their defence. And put us under pressure with their stupidity.

Ps. I don't care how senior thaiday is he should never be starting again for the rest of his career. Hes unfit and lazy.

su'a is 18 mate so its a steady steady approach with him, and we had current origin and australian rep players coming back into the team.

As much as I respect your opinions BP I disagree with this one from my one viewing of the game - and I could well be wrong, I don't intend watching the Tigers game again to find out..

I thought Su'A was outstanding, considering he's a kid and played 80 minutes on debut in a beaten pack. I can agree he went missing for periods of the game, but my recollection is for the majority of the game he tackled hard and generally quite well?

And to be quite honest, this year, we're not winning the ruck. Against any team. Even in our wins, we've struggled. Smaller, mobile pack we may be, but we're again giving up the ruck. Again this year, we're giving up ruck speed to avoid the wrestle, but are getting no gain as the refs won't ping the opposition for it. Again this year, we're letting teams roll up the middle. It's a concern for mine, and I don't think Su'A was any worse than anyone else against the Tigers. I hope he gets a run again in a fortnight's time, and I suspect he will, and be better for the experience.

Thaiday has certainly played like shit since he re-signed. Bennett should be absolutely disgusted with him. What I hate the most is that Thaiday has it in him - when motivated (like, with a new contract) he can be one of the most damaging players on both sides of the ball. But when he's comfortable, he just doesn't give a ****.

he tackled hard and generally quite well?

He kept going high allowing the Tigers to constantly drive him back and gain easy metres. His best efforts were generally tidying up the ruck and even then he struggled to control the ruck.

Su'A is the youngest starting forward in club history and it showed.

I hope he gets a run again in a fortnight's time, and I suspect he will, and be better for the experience.

He dislocated his shoulder in the NYC.

RE: Thaiday - he played poorly against New Zealand backing up an ordinary effort in Origin. However against the Sharks, Sea Eagles and Cowboys he was one of the Broncos better players. I don't think it's right to call his character into question, suggesting he's taking it easy because he signed a 3 year deal.

Quite a hard assessment IMO BP. I agree with Astro about Sua and after talking to a senior player today so do a lot at the club. Yes our forwards struggled to win the ruck in his debut game but he was hardly the only one in most of those tackles. To get nearly 100m in his first game was also impressive especially when some of our forwards are struggling to do so. He didnt lose his spot because of his performance as i heard same as Talanoa said about the steady approach. The senior player i spoke to also said he didnt break or dislocate his shoulder?

But I am still a Thaiday fan and he needs to be in our team right now.

But that doesn't make his defence 'sensational' or that he tackled 'hard and generally quite well'. He defended as well as you'd expect an 18 year old would.

Right, it would have taken an excellent performance to remain in the side, let alone the starting side.

He played well but there were deficiencies there that prevented Wayne from having second thoughts.

I'll look into it.

All I know is that he came off 6 minutes in the NYC clash due to a shoulder injury and never came back.

Yeah not sure ive seen many 18 year olds in his position and doubt they would be able to put up as much of a fight. I recall some nice contact on ballin and CL during that game. The thing is Thaiday and Glen are not doing any better and thats my problem. Glens stats were less than impressive last week against warriors. Also worried about Joffa. Really hope he gets back to where he was 3 weeks ago.

I would drop Ofahengaue for Pangai Jr, much more impact off the bench.

But that's the problem, he is 18.

Every plaudit so far has been followed with "...for an 18 year old". It isn't like he was an improvement over anyone.

Neither played well last week, but considering Su'A had to come off after six minutes, it's difficult to hold his omission against the coach.

He was far from alone.

Glenn has been struggling with an injury since the Knights game. He was one of the Broncos best against Wests, albeit he's capable of even better.

Mate thats a weird comment to come from you? Injury can happen at training or while hopping in an ice bath lol.

And Glen dedinitely needed to be our best againts wests as he was the most experienced and had to stand up, which i agree he did but only just IMO.

I like the youth coming through. Look at TPJ. His second game was even better than his first and i reckon he is going to soar.

Big Pete what do you think the performs of Thaiday and Blair so far this season. Is any player deserve to be drop from the team?

The point is he didn't get the opportunity to put pressure on either Thaiday or Glenn. This notion that he should have been in the team and that he was hard done by is difficult to buy into when he didn't get the opportunity to add to his case.

I'm certainly not blaming him or holding it against him, it's just the way the situation played out.

I like the youth coming through.

Plenty of great young talent to keep an eye on in future years.

A couple of players could do with a rest. I don't think Blair is one of them. Granted he's been in the thick of it recently, getting himself suspended for stupid reasons or just trying too hard to make things happen but for the most part he has a role in this team and he's been doing it nicely.

On the other hand, Sam could do with a week off. Again, before last week I thought he was one of the Broncos better players. He hasn't been killing it per say, but he's generally added something off the bench or filled in well for Glenn.

Auto correct ? Per say ? Per se ? Has to be as my autocorrect tried to fix it for me !
