POST GAME Round 13 - Warriors vs Broncos

It's the vibe. I just am not seeing the same team we saw last year.

And to be fair we didn't see last years 'vibe' until much later in the season either. It really wasn't until the Rabbitohs game where (at least for me) it felt like "wow maybe there is something on here".

What is/are the differences between the Roberts of the Titans and the Roberts of the Broncos... and why?

I'm baffled

he was playing in a rubbish team at the titans and scored a lot of tries from adlib play. notice how he doesnt shoot the line with us?? wayne wouldnt let him im certain of that, whereas the titans let him shoot the line and he ended up with quite a high number of intercepts and tries from it.
in his time at the titans he wasnt marked as heavily as he is now so that also contributes..

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe Roberts is the kind of player who needs a little more freedom apart from ball to shine?

Next match, I am counting the number of times we specifically move the ball left to Reed and right to Roberts, separate to anything Milf/Hunt might do with Roberts that's "ad lib".

i reckon we should get roberts to float a bit more around the ruck and look for the second phase play off parker/blair. if he gets a late offload he could explode through the middle ( no one can go with him off the mark)
i reckon it will work because traditionally boyd doesnt push up like a slater/tedesco type fullback and we can keep boyd then out wide as a second passing option.

Oh yes PLEASE.

Or we get Hodges at training teaching him how to get involved.

For years people wanted Hodges gone for a younger faster option. Roberts proves that a younger faster player is definitely not better than an older match winner. Roberts is a lazy ****, he could easily take some dummy half runs a few times a game, roam a little in attack, etc but he does basically **** all unless the ball is thrown to him.

With the warriors dominance yesterday, the bounce of the ball going their way all match and the refs giving them a decent leg up, we only lost by three tries. We had two tries disallowed which in many other matches would usually get let go and some of the tries that the warriors came up with were freakish.

No denying we are in a big flat spot though and have some tough games coming up. Forwards need to stand up. The last few weeks has to have hurt their pride.

Well, I just watched the highlights again a few times and it seems to me that:

1. Their 1st try was Ben Hunt being utterly lazy and not marking up tight on Johnson?

2. The Lillyman try - was Moose (and Fat Sam and others) just standing there watching?

3. Maranta literally gave them 2 tries and possibly a 3rd on the Johnson kick early in the game. For starters, I am sure that Kahu would have hit Fusitua into touch and not given him a cuddle like Maranta did, nor would Kahu have come off his wing (**** I HATE THAT) to leave Fusitua free passage for 2nd

4. Kata's try: straight though Hunt and Boyd ... ?

5. Marker defence on Luke and in general in the middle? Crap ... that's why Macca is important to us in the middle 3rd. Blair and Thaiday's marking was bloody lazy as.

Any dominance the Warriors had well, we let them get away with it (as did the refs) and our attitude SUCKED, we were lazy, and Maranta was, well, shite.

We did it to ourselves. Flat spot? Definitely. With a full side and Bennett on the warpath, I will NOT lose faith in this team

Bring Hodgo in to train Roberts? Great idea, but ... Bennett needs to take control, and our attacking game plan needs revision, serious revision. Roberts has class and it's up to the coaching staff to bring it out, get him involved, eliminate his laziness (which I think comes from boredom) .... or piss him off if he fails to respond, but seriously, let's at least try to coach him to get himself involved first.

At the Tits, as Talanoa posted, he seems to have been left to his own devices which just doesn't happen under Bennett.

Every team has flat spots, a slump if you will... I have faith in Bennett getting the team in the right frame of mind at the business end. That being said, finishing top 4 is extremely important, if we don't, our premiership chance is over this year.

I knew Hunt didn't have his mind on the game when even before that he put through that nothing kick 30 metres out from the warriors line on the 3rd tackle of a seven tackle set. Not sure what he was thinking,

0 runs for Offa!!! Jeebus, Benny won't be too happy with that.

Maybe it's Bennett who doesn't know how to bounce back after a gf loss.

So everyone agrees our attack is bad. Kevin walter was our half's and attacking coach. Last year Bennett getting all the credits. I think kevin deserve credits. This season no kevin and we say how they are struggling big time. Let see if coaching staff figures out.

I don't think it's s coaching issue. I think it's a "we aren't getting time and space through our forwards" problem.

Following this game, I'm firmly in the camp of moving Roberts to left centre, Kahu to right centre and finding someone to play right wing (I would have thought Maranta before this game). Reed has all the pace of a prop with a busted ankle. There are plenty of times I can recall throughout this season of Milf finding a bit of room for Reed, and Reed getting gunned down within 10-20 metres. Roberts running off that is infinitely more dangerous.

I think it would create true triple threat on that edge. At the moment, you can man up on Milford knowing that Reed won't burn you that badly. Having Roberts there = more space for Milf. I'd also point out that most of the time Reed has 'failed' to set up Oates, I think it's more been a case of Reed not being enough of a threat himself, so the defense can hold off and mark Oates (who is dangerous) until someone arrives to take Jack down. Again, if you have Roberts there, holding back for Oates is literally playing with fire.

Throw in Boyd popping up on that edge and that becomes really hard to defend against. Set those guys up properly, with a bit of depth (which has been sadly lacking this year for reasons I can't comprehend) and some good running from guys like Glenn, and that's dangerous.

So our forwards maguire, matt, parker, Sammy australian and origin represent forwards. Glenn and Blair new zealand represent forwards. If you see past all the matches matt, maguire, parker are the only players run hard and hit hard with and without ball in their hand.
