POST GAME Round 13 - Warriors vs Broncos

I don't think it's s coaching issue. I think it's a "we aren't getting time and space through our forwards" problem.

We made pretty good ground at times yesterday only to get into some sort of attacking position and then f*** it up somehow. It wasn't our day, but our attack looks very unorganised once again

Following this game, I'm firmly in the camp of moving Roberts to left centre, Kahu to right centre and finding someone to play right wing (I would have thought Maranta before this game). Reed has all the pace of a prop with a busted ankle. There are plenty of times I can recall throughout this season of Milf finding a bit of room for Reed, and Reed getting gunned down within 10-20 metres. Roberts running off that is infinitely more dangerous.

I think it would create true triple threat on that edge. At the moment, you can man up on Milford knowing that Reed won't burn you that badly. Having Roberts there = more space for Milf. I'd also point out that most of the time Reed has 'failed' to set up Oates, I think it's more been a case of Reed not being enough of a threat himself, so the defense can hold off and mark Oates (who is dangerous) until someone arrives to take Jack down. Again, if you have Roberts there, holding back for Oates is literally playing with fire.

Throw in Boyd popping up on that edge and that becomes really hard to defend against. Set those guys up properly, with a bit of depth (which has been sadly lacking this year for reasons I can't comprehend) and some good running from guys like Glenn, and that's dangerous.

Absolutely spot on. I would just point out that when the centre gets the ball in the attacking zone , it is a culmination of a lot of work from the forwards first defending then hitting up the hard yards. Now if that centre lacks any real attacking flair ,it must be a bit disheartening for the workers. WB is no goose and would only be too aware of the back line deficiencies. The ball is in his court now . The fans are getting restless.

Well, I just watched the highlights again a few times and it seems to me that:

1. Their 1st try was Ben Hunt being utterly lazy and not marking up tight on Johnson?

2. The Lillyman try - was Moose (and Fat Sam and others) just standing there watching?

3. Maranta literally gave them 2 tries and possibly a 3rd on the Johnson kick early in the game. For starters, I am sure that Kahu would have hit Fusitua into touch and not given him a cuddle like Maranta did, nor would Kahu have come off his wing (**** I HATE THAT) to leave Fusitua free passage for 2nd

4. Kata's try: straight though Hunt and Boyd ... ?

5. Marker defence on Luke and in general in the middle? Crap ... that's why Macca is important to us in the middle 3rd. Blair and Thaiday's marking was bloody lazy as.

Any dominance the Warriors had well, we let them get away with it (as did the refs) and our attitude SUCKED, we were lazy, and Maranta was, well, shite.

We did it to ourselves. Flat spot? Definitely. With a full side and Bennett on the warpath, I will NOT lose faith in this team

it was actually thaiday's fault for not covering hunt's inside. Hunt needed to slide that's our defensive style. We've done it for years. Gillett would have been on his inside shoulder and smashed johnson into tomorrow. It was partly unfamiliarity and lack of speed but I think mostly laziness from thaiday. It's not like he hasn't. Played the position before.

I think BP is correct. All the other Warriors were marked and Hunt ought to have just positioned himself to take out Johnson. He didn't. He stood there pretty much and watched.

Roberts's attempt on Hoffman too was awful - he failed to face Hoffman who threw a mini dummy to his left and went right past him to score.

Unless I am wrong, a slide defence still means you position your body in a way that allows you to move forward to tackle as much as sideways in the slide. Sliding or not, doesn't one move forward and have some momentum for the tackle rather than just have all your momentum going sideways?

As for Thaiday, I try so so hard to like him, buffoon or not, but he looks like he's getting fat and for every good thing he does he does something bad. Am I wrong in saying Sam makes hardly any metres? He always looks to me like he is so so easy to bring down. The last time he really impressed me was that game v Roosters where he really gave it to JWH. Sammy ought to be that psyched up every game.

Agree. Was not Hunts fault that time. Thaiday should have had Johnson and was very slow coming over. Gillett would have taken Johnson. Even Sua had the halves covered last week. Thaiday should know the position. I still love what he brings off the bench for us, but im not a fan of him starting. Even though he seemed to lift for O. The forwards stats were very ordinary Saturday. Besides those 'baby broncos'

Absolutely agree and the problem with this is that that game is quite a while ago now and he has done pretty much nothing since. Was that before his three-year contract extension? If so, it is incredibly disappointing and really does make it look like the wrong decision to re-sign him and especially for that long indeed.

I don't get it. The player sign new contract they stop playing good footy. Last year Alex Glenn and Thaiday was on fire before their contact got extension. This year Glenn and Thaiday played very poorly so far. I don't know who faults is our forwards or half or any individual player. End of the day Broncos are not winning the game. Some player in team who are not performing well so fair this season. Reed, gleen, Robert, Blair, Thaiday, perform bad so fair this season. Let see if there gone be change in this week in the team.

We def arent playing as well as last year. Maybe we are too predictable, our attack looks flat, Milf and Hunt arent gelling. Time to really focus on our attack. Some more second phase play would help as well.

Moose should never be picked at 9, he doesnt have the speed, creativity and vision of a 9. Should have kept Kodi there if Waddell was out. Shows how big a loss Macca is.
Dont understand why Roberts hardly gets ball, only seems to be from dummy half. Quickest player in the comp yet we prefer to go the slowest centre in comp. Doesnt make sense.
Drop Maranta - so overrated. Eden is much better. Or give Seve a run.
I want to see more of Esse. He is coming on in the last 30, he should be doing that in the first half. He makes good metres everytime and getting good numbers with the lack of time he gets. We lack go forward, hardly ever get past the halfway line.
Tevita looks the goods, still raw but short bursts are good for him.
I worry that we cant win the big games, because our kicking game is shiet. Hunt prob has one of the worst in the comp. He need to be able to control the game and get repeats sets and kick it deep in their territory, not just bombs every 5th tackle. If we had JTs kicking management, we would be so good.

Too flat is right, we attack with no depth and depth is what we were doing so well last year, plus the unpredictability of throwing the ball at any time on the field and not this constant 4 one-out rucks then bomb. I really think a lot of the problems with the attack, and I mean 99%, is all Reed. We can't attack with depth because he is too slow to run on to it and gets caught behind which is what was happening earlier in the season.

Plus, we never go right and when we do, it simply seems to be throw it to Roberts with 12 players on him and hope he produces a miracle. Surprise, surprise, it didn't work...so let's go left again. I mean, the left works well at times simply because Oates is there and he often scores despite Reed. Take Oates out of the team and our left edge has the potency of a 95 year old man. I'm all for keeping your cards close to your chest and not showing the rest of the comp everything you've got yet BUT that only works if you actually still win enough games to make the finals. Start being a little creative again like last year.

Reed is a big problem. But our hooker troubles are even worse, so he might be saved by that.

I agree with not showing all your tricks to a point, but to not even set up something that vaguely resembles a basic attacking structure is setting bad habits, losing games and gives us nothing to build plays on for later in the year.

It's not like attacking with depth isn't something the Logan under seven's coach couldn't think of. Keeping your cards hidden isn't a good enough explanation for what we've been serving up at times.

I am usually one to defend Reed. But this year he has only really had a couple of good games. If his form doesn't improve soon I would support dropping him. I think either way this may be his last year with us anyway. His lack of pace this year seems even more obvious than previous years, I think he has gotten slower. I hope he can find some form.

Slower between the ears too

No he didn't.

It was 3 on 3 and Hunt read a dummy from the game's best running half.

And if he doesn't slide johnson passes the ball to kata who walks over roberts 2m from the line. Its sams fault for not being there so he doesn't have the option to go back inside.

It looked to me as though it's a bit of both but Hunt should simply have tackled his man and trusted others to do the same. That close to the line and having had our pants pulled down by that player previously should have been enough to know what's required. Take your man and let the cards fall as they may.

In my opinion maranta and thaiday lost us that game. Most of the tries conceded are because of their defence. And put us under pressure with their stupidity.

Also what did su'a do wrong last week to not keep his spot, i thought his defence was sensational.

Ps. I don't care how senior thaiday is he should never be starting again for the rest of his career. Hes unfit and lazy.
