I think some of us are getting a bit carried away with praise here because he copped such a shellacking in the off season. That criticism mostly being that he wasn't NRL standard, the details varying. And that his father wouldn't be able to drop him in favour of a better player. Well, we wouldn't know about that because his father has so far only made two hookers available for selection, and the other guy has looked the better player up until the last couple of weeks. Not everyone agrees on that, but there's not a lot between them regardless.

It's fair to say Billy's proven to be "NRL standard" but beyond that would be generous. There are some terrific hookers in the NRL. Billy really isn't one of those. But he's also not a "bad" one, and arguably better than the one Nick Politis poached from us with his bottomless sack of funny money.

The test of footy IQ comes when Adam Reynolds isn't on the field, and the thinking gets delegated to someone else. I'm skeptical that Billy can handle that beyond the occasional grubber, but he can certainly pass the ball and tackle as per the job description.

Billy's not under pressure from me, but I still think 9 (and 14) is a position we can improve.
I don’t think I’ve gotten carried away with praise. Credit where credit is due, he has not let the team down over the last 2 weeks and in fact his defence has been bordering on impressive. His attack still has some flawed moments but it is far improved. Based on current form, I am less concerned about him warming the jersey for Mozer over the next 12 months.

He's probably recalling the other issues, like the 8 penalties conceded for Marty to 2 for Jensen.
Six agains have been a few as well - but as that stat is hardly recorded anywhere - hard to tell
think him riki and capwell all have 8?
would also have to break down what those were for i guess high shots are pretty black and white but stuff like laying in the ruck inside their 40m is going to inflate it over laying in the ruck outside the 40 where all you get is a 6 again.

I don’t mind reading counter points and you make some ok ones here but your bias is still showing through. You are saying he is arguably, basically slightly if at all, better than Turpin. Billy is easily better than Turpin because they both can defend really well but only Billy has anything resembling a decent offensive game. With ball in hand, there is no comparison whatsoever, one was a hand brake, the other is getting the team moving forward with relative ease.

That’s a lot of words used to say “I was wrong”. Also shut up. He’s killing it

B Walters has been the better hooker all year bar about 3 games, not just the last couple weeks.

Without a doubt its bcos ppl went on about him being shocking before a ball was kicked this year but its not over the top given theres still huge bias the other way. Listened to about 2 mins of a broncos podcast last week where they went on about how much he needed to be dropped after a terrible performance against the warriors haha he was one of our best! Even comments on fb are still the same. Not saying that's you or anyone on here but the bs around him is so ridiculous.
We can definetly improve the 9 but so what. He's our best 9 in our squad at the moment. I'd consider dropping paix in the next month if he doesn't improve. Mozer is getting closer but would be lucky to last 20 mins by the sounds of it, sounds like smoothy might be on par with paix in attack but a bit better defensively, but hardly bashing down the door.
K Walters is doing what's best for us and his players DESPITE the narrative and backlash

On Turpin. I can't honestly believe he is the starting 9 for the Roosters. Have they fallen that much in the past year??

Oates looked soooo slow on that first break of his, my first thought was that his legs aren't right. But after a few more runs from him I remembered that that's just how he looks when running, it's a slow lope but he's so big and his stride is so long that it's deceiving.

Had a great game, but I thought he'd seriously messed up going with the kick as the option on that break before half-time. Absolute lucky bounce that we never seem to get, usually that'd ping over the sideline and the ref would call not played at.

That’s a lot of words used to say “I was wrong”. Also shut up. He’s killing it

He didn't even really say that. It was more like, 'in the face of evidence against, I still don't think I'm wrong'. Kind of reminds me of when he went from proclaimng 'Turpin is God' to blaming coaching and saying he's simply not appreciated because no one values defense.

Billy is the best number 9 in the game today.

Objective fact.

Yep......I think I'm including the penalties and 6 agains, that I've seen / remembered from Marty as part of his error count.

I actually think the end of Billys career and the start of Mozers will be somewhat perfectly timed. Hopefully something like Jake Granville at NQ. If we are being real, my gut says barring injury we wont see Mozer in the NRL this season. Perhaps we may see him next year off the bench at some point but I can see Walters holding the jersey and playing the first 50 or 60 minutes for a full season at least with Mozer coming off the bench. Lets not forget Mozer is only 18 or 19 years old. Its going to be years before he can play 40 minutes of NRL let alone 60 or 80. If Billy and Paix remain at the club on minimum wage we are going to be in a great position to bring Mozer in when he's ready and not a moment sooner. I still have Tom Dearden PTSD blooding rookies before their time.

Fun Nico Hynes fact for all his loving fans, in two years, he has beaten two top 8 teams only. Just a prettier version of Mitch Moses except Moses has beaten a few more top 8 teams lately.
Can you expand on this please

Slater confirming Walters is the goat at 9. Origin selection coming up.
