Cobbo makes similar metres to Herbie .
Just doesn`t get the penalties for getting smacked in the chops every 3rd run that Herbie does .
They relieve a lot of pressure .
I wasn't balls-in on Selwyn's move to the centres initially, and it was exactly this kind of indifferent performance that's been his intermittent signature, especially after rep games. I don't have an answer, but it's something to bear in mind when you're gushing over the other Selwyn.

If Herbie has 5 apples but doesn`t play Origin .
How many apples has Selwyn got after he plays origin ?

{ factor in he`s 21 going on 22 }

My question now is WTF happened to Ezra and Brendan in Origin camp ?
They played pretty ordinarily as well .
The meme is they come back as better players after rubbing shoulders with the elite .

I'm sure Willison would have been an upgrade on Baker, but he's still a rookie and finding his way as a regular. This dummy spit over him taking a game off for personal reasons is way overshooting the mark. If there's one job where you should be replaceable it's bench forward for a mid season rugby league game.

Baker was not the difference between the two teams.
Exactly, we were poor all over the park apart from our starting middles who by ordinary standards were "off" but expectedly so given they only played origin three days prior. Our other stars, Mam, Piakura, Mariner, Heatherington, Sailor etc all needed to lift and didnt. They expected someone else to do it for them all night and we suffered.

Something needs to be done about the Mam/Piakura combination defensively. They are both pretty poor defenders and are almost reaching liability status defending next to each other.

Front on they are both good physically and technically .
It`s lateral movement and changes of direction that is their weakness . Coupled with poor communication about who is taking who .

Compare the Storm and Broncos on the weekend. Storm 18-12 at halftime and Broncos 12-4- Knights and Sharks both scored two minutes after HT.

Storm’s first five minutes of the second half went error, Knights line break, Knights try- 18-16 score.

How do the Storm respond to the challenge?

Wishart line break

Three tries in 11 minutes.

Broncos 12-4 at half time

After half time

Trindall line break

Trindall try

Brailey try

Baker error

59th minute- Storm lead 34-16- Broncos down 22-12.

They were eerily same situation and Storm regrouped and handled it. Brisbane is not prepared to put the ego away at the moment and not play how they want to play. We are sticking to it no matter what and it's equalling errors in defence and attack.

Plus it was Cup players in the storm team obviously pulling their weight. Hungry to take the position of the substantive player that was absent.

Sailor I could give a pass to, looked seriously underdone recovering from surgery and probably has not had a lot of time back training etc. He did the team a favor by lacing up the boots. Cobbo was not an option, barely moved playing backing up after origin. We probably had no other option.

That would only be true if Sailor hadn’t put in that performance a lot since 2022.

Well i guess he was only signed by the broncos in 2023, i cant remember games where he made 3+ errors costing us tries in the past i guess.

Lets look -
2023 - 5 games played, 6 try assists, 5 line break assists, 1 linebreak, 590 run meters, 3 errors.

Doesnt look too bad really for a fill in FB... 2024 probably a worse year but we have had injuries in key positions, including Tristan that's had the poor prognosis on performance. I've never seen him drop the ball three times in a game before the other night, he was really bad and i would say based on the evidence of his previous outing, had more to do with the lack of training, skills, high ball etc being off for the last 5 or 6 weeks.

So, we now have an ego problem? No wonder majority of them are disinterested & not playing as a team collectively.
Not sure what has changed but can’t stand these performances at all.

I honestly don't know but I haven't been impressed in 18 ISC games now. I said all last season he's in a struggling team coming last they don't need your chip kick, they did experience guidance and attention to detail at the back and I don't think he gives that.

He gives big, huge cut out passes at bad times and kicks for himself.

He is being coached by one of the safest fullbacks in the last 20 years and he gets out done by a running second rower. That tells me a lot.

Truth is if you look at his stats people would probably say he can play for the Broncos- even last night- 14 runs, 152m, 5 tackles- played well- put him in!

But it will never show that in a game that ended a draw he cost his team.

Those little things matter and do matter to the Broncos.

I have fears about Sailor which I keep saying- people just ignore the handling errors and focus on the running. He dropped the ball three times on Saturday night and gave away two penalties that's five let offs in a game from an important position.

Round one- dropped two.
Round two- dropped one and a penalty.
Round four- dropped one and sat watching a ball on the dead ball line until Piakura ran 50m and scored- two penalties.
Round five- dropped three.
Round six- dropped one.
Round seven- two penalties
Round eight- dropped three
Round nine- dropped three and two penalties.

It's too much.

Can't stop thinking about that Piakura try, the fact he chased it is a great effort at best he was going to get him in the in-goal. I think without a doubt he doesn't chase that last year or 21.

Onto Sailor, it's just too casual, he has been doing it his whole time at Souths just the big play, he wants to touch the ball 50 times a game and he's Souths go to man but how about you do the safe sensible play not the massive flashy play no awareness' or detail for what is required in the current situation. I'd love to know what Hunt told him about that fullback play.

Very selfish football which I don't like.

I missed the game on Saturday night, but decided to put myself through a replay tonight.

I don't think we were too bad overall and it was Royce Hunt who absolutely changed the game when he came on... we couldn't handle him and Talakai and their aggression. Basically all their points came in the 10mins after halftime because our bench got absolutely dominated by theirs... and too many critical errors.

I thought that Madden was pretty good to be honest... I think he easily outplayed Ezra, which is just not good enough from Ezra. Madden is just a fill in to get us around the park and we needed far more from Mam. Last year during origin it was Reynolds who stepped up and carried us through the period and losing him just before origin started could be a killer.

Patty was excellent... insane the amount we now rely on him though... mostly because Reynolds is out. Our issue is we have absolutely no one else in the squad that can get even close to the ball playing that Patty provides and our attack starts off the back of him so much now that it means we can never take him off the field unless we get to a comfortable position on the scoreboard, which is just not happening.

In regards to the game I just think we have too many guys that aren't top 17 players having to play big roles ... you can handle that when it's only a couple and the other guys are supporting them or if the competition for spots across the squad is strong and the next guys up are genuine chances to crack the top 17, but the depth just doesn't look great at the moment.
- Sailor poor with errors, but provided next to nothing in attack... don't recall him firing a shot. Really poor from him and Ezra
- Oates some absolutely critical errors... just can't be dropping it on first tackle after defending 4 sets back to back
- Baker just really poor... got absolutely dominated by the opposing bench and then also had some absolutely killer errors. I think Kevvie basically hooked him when he rushed Payne and Jensen back on

Piakura is a bit of an issue as well... the Trindall try was through him and he was seriously labouring at the end of the game. He needs to not be in origin camp and really needs to clamp down and focus entirely on his game. He looks like he's a year off being a regular 80mins starting second rower at the moment and I think we really needed Capewell for 12 more months or needed to do better at replacing him just so we didn't have to go all in and could've still eased him into first grade with resting and/or starting from the bench. I thought Gos was alright... maybe we could look to start him on the edge and then bring Piakura on at 30mins or so to ensure we keep easing him into first grade?

My exact thoughts around Gos too. Eversince he joined us, he played very limited minutes with intent and bit of mongrel. I recall him getting bashed in those few games he played for us. Maybe i’m missing it hugely but in my view, he’s gone alright.

A good test is, get Gos to start with Piakura on the bench.

Wouldn't be the worst thing to put Piakura back to the bench. We were probably defending better back when Hunt was playing on the edge.

I was actually thinking the same thing. Bring Piakura on after 25 minutes or so. We need to make some kind of changes because it just isn't working at the moment.

Patty, no question, is our MVP. First player picked. Best forward in the NRL. His work ethic is impeccable and leads by example in every way. Payne and Corey Jensen, not far behind. On and off the field, front of camera, they tick all boxes.

We've all seen that video of Patty mic'd up, barking rugby-league-isms. It was a pretty convincing show. Whether it was helpful, or anyone listened to him, I'm not capable of telling. But ex players always cite that as the reason he'll be the next QLD captain.

But that's not the leadership we lack: we need rat cunning and vision that can see beyond the middle forwards. I don't think Patty is on top of that, and neither Ezra nor Jock seem to take on that role.

Obviously, we get this from Reyno in spades. But, I think the player we really missed was Walsh. While Patty is the emerging captain on the Honours Board, I think it's Walsh who will increasingly steer the team around. I think we underestimate what he brings to the team beyond his flashy breaks.
Last night gutho challenged a call of line drop out / 7 tackle set back to their knock on in the field of play / turn over 6 tackle set. And I thought “do we have anyone who would be that cunning?

We also watched a kick bounce that almost went out on the full, not one player was smart enough to stand in touch and put a hand out for the ball. You don’t need to catch it.

Just not smart enough.

Wait a minute though. In order for calls like Gutho's to be successful we need the bunker to be actually watching the play. How many times have we challenged because there was a genuine touch or knock on from the opposition and the bunker has just had one half-eyed look and went - Charter boat what charter boat?

It's written in invisible ink on the NRL charter, the Broncos shall never- in any circumstances, get the rub of the green forever in perpetuity as punishment for backing the super league war.

Those quotes are about him doing flashy plays that don`t come off or not putting in efforts .
That was not the case the other night .
